Is one UY more popular than others?

I've been thinking about what UY would be best for us and looking at resales. Are there some UYs that have more out there? More desireable to own? More valuable to disney? Etc?

I was thinking an Oct UY would be good for us, but I'm not seeing much in comparison to other UYs -- and especially at certain resorts. :confused3

What the experts here recommend (I'm a newbie to DVC, but read for a couple years before buying) is if you go the same time every year, or intend to, then you should buy one with a use year 3 monts prior to your intended trips.

For example, we go in late August and have a June use year.

Sounds reasonable. I think it is more likely that future plans may shift a few months in either direction, and 3 months earlier gives you that flexibility. (i.e. what if a musical artist you really, really wanted to see played in F&W during the end of September, If you had an October UY you could still go, but you would have no cancellation flexibility.) If you bought with that 3 month buffer in mind, you'd be gold!

Why is that?
This gives you plenty of time to cancel, rebook, or bank points if need be. Theoretically, one should by as close to their regularly traveled month as possible, if this time of vacationing pertains to you. UY are not in every month, so if one travels in July mostly, they should get a June UY, August mostly, then get an August UY. If your travel varies, I would get one that falls into the most months you would be traveling, and if having to cancel, would still be able to bank those points.

We didn't buy a UY that fit our needs.

Our previous trips had been mostly in December and January, and we picked up a 100 pt. contract with a February UY.

Its not been a big deal thus far, but we have changed our travel habits because of it.

But this still doesn't answer why I can't seem to find many Oct UY contracts for sale. I go in Dec, maybe late Nov after T-Day (hence why Dec UY is cutting it too close for me). I also read Disney's ROFR considers things like UY (like maybe if they have a waitlist for it? hmmmm).

October would seem to be very popular because F&W, especially with the EPCOT area resorts (BWV and BCV) I believe October and December are both very, very popular (perhaps the most difficult to reservations) with DVC because of low points and the festivities. (I believe there are 10 UY's, I am not sure what 2 months are excluded, perhaps an excluded month is near October? which would artifically increase near December demand?)

As far as I know, the points are divided by use years equally.

I'm sure DVC does consider UY when they look at their waitlists. If they have someone looking for October who will pay $100/point (whatever the current rate is) and a resale is going for $80 that they can ROFR, that's a nice profit for them.
