is one dvc more popular than another?

just wondering?? or is it all personal choice??

If I had to venture a guess, I'd guess that BCV is the most popular as it has the largest pool and is close to Epcot and DHS. But it isn't for me.

I think that it is actually down to personal choice. I like the theme and isolation of VWL and AKV. I am sure that some would disagree with my tastes, but that is the beauty of DVC. There is a variety of choices in resort types.

Yes, some resorts are more popular. But its meaningless as just because I like VWL doesn't mean you will. The personal choice is far more meaningful. In terms of availability, size of the resort is a much better predictor of availability than any supposed "popularity" - small resorts generally fill faster and have less availability than large resorts.

More people have bought SSR than any other resort!

:rotfl2: Yes, but only because it is the largest resort and had more points to sell. It is a lovely resort, but number of owners really has nothing to do with popularity.

Each resort has its positives and negatives. Some people, like me, like the condo style resorts (OKW & SSR) others prefer the more "hotel" style resorts. It really is personal preference.

There is some "ownership pride." We own BWV - sort of a fluke. And we always stay there and enjoy it - i.e. its "popular" with us. Whether we'd even be attracted to it as a potential spot to stay if we owned another resort it - hard to say. SSR is a popular resort like the Cubs are a popular baseball team - some of it is its attraction as a resort, and some of it is the sense of ownership of a fairly large population of members.

When I go in October for the Food and Wine Fest we want to stay at Beach Club, but it sells out so we end up at Boardwalk. We spend more time at Epcot and I do not like waiting for a boat or a bus to pick me up. Any other time I prefer the Wildnerness Lodge, we ended up spending more time at Magic Kingdom.

You know... I've been a member of DisBoards for some time... and I have never noticed any preference for one resort over another. :rotfl2:

In my opinion, the Kingdom Tower at the Contemporary will be the most popular DVC resort once it opens. Face it, the Magic Kingdom is the most popular Theme Park in the world and the Kingdom Tower will be the only DVC resort within walking distance to the park. To make things twice as exciting, it will also be the only DVC resort on the monorail track. I can't wait to stay at the new resort and avoid the long waits for bus service. Before buying into DVC, we always stayed at the Magic Kingdom resorts for the convenience of the monorail. There's nothing like spending a hot day in the park and being able to hop on the monorail and be back in your air conditioned room in less than 10 minutes. There's also nothing more magical than standing on your balcony and seeing Cinderella's Castle during the morning sunrise.

I have to agree with Chuck.......SSR being the largest DVC resort certainly has something to do with why more owners have bought there ;)

I think they all have their own charm and are popular in their own right for various different reasons. BWV/BCV for their proximity to Epcot (and BCV does have the best pool area). VWL for it's proximity to the MK and for it's grand themeing. OKW for it's large rooms and "laid back" appeal. SSR for it's proximity to DD and it's newness factor. AKV for the draw of savanah views and animals right outside your villa balcony.

We like them all for the various reasons listed above. Of course, we have our favorites, but it's always nice to mix it up now and again.

As we all know, Disney is a master of variety, and they know people have different tastes and preferences.

We have done Grand Floridian and Pop Century. Yes, GF is posh and close, but we love the food court and funkiness of PC.

Saratoga is lovely and close to downtown Disney, but its a farther ride to most parks. But then we enjoy OKW, which seems less crowded and more secluded.

So popularity is all relative - may people don't have a clear preference, as long as it has the Disney name...!

I think it is a matter of preference per person. I also think that BCV and then BWV during Food and Wine and to a lesser degree the Flower and Garden. These are a short walk to and from EPCOT. VWL and BCV are the smallest resorts and fill much faster. All the resorts are wonderful during the Christmas holiday season. It seems on these boards anyway that VWL is very popular. We have stayed at all WDW DVC resorts except AKV and love them all. Each have good and bad points. Then it comes down to personal preference.

For us, it was a personal choice. When DH and I reconnected (we actually went to HS together!), he was living in Saratoga Springs, NY and I was in Jacksonville, FL. We dated long distance (mainly me flying to NY since I had more flexibility at the time), quickly fell in love and spent our first year of marriage in Saratoga Springs. It was just a natural choice for us to choose SSR! :lovestruc

We do like the location -because it is such a large, spread out resort, we find it fairly quiet and peaceful; a nice pace after hectic days in the park. We also like to being close to DTD with the options to walk, take a bus or boat and we absolutlely LOVE the Spa! :thumbsup2

I think it's definitely a personal thing. The exact thing that makes one resort special for me might be your worst possible place to stay. Some of the small resorts (like BCV and VWL) are very difficult to book, but I suspect a lot of that is the fact that they are small, just like more people own SSR because it's so huge.

So far we have only stayed at OKW (last Feb), but our plans are to visit all of the different DVC resorts over the next few years. In just a few weeks now  we will be visiting AKV. Next year we'll check out our home resort- SSR, and BWV.

We loved OKW, and we are looking forward to seeing all of the different DVC resorts.

So I'll get back to ya in a few years with my answer :)

Hands down BCV is our favorite resort:cool1: We fell in love with everything about it the moment we got there (and added on more points as soon as we returned). Our next trip will be split between AKV and BCV. We are looking forward to Kidani and feel we will really enjoy the new resort at AKV.

Crisi has it right. DVC did a survey a few years back (before SSR opened, I think) asking members which was their favorite DVC property. Something like 80-90% of the respondents picked their home resort.

When we bought our DVC membership, OKW was the only choice. But we loved it then and we love it now and prefer staying there over any of the others.

Anecdotally, I would guess the most popular are BCV and BWV because of their location and transportation and dining options. We have stayed at both (as well as at SSR) and they are very nice, but we still prefer our home resort. Sentimentality reigns for us, I guess. :goodvibes

It's all up to your taste. Rent where you want to buy and buy where you love to rent. Each resort has something different to offer. A lot of people love AKV, a lot of people don't. That's what makes DVC so great. Something for every body. :thumbsup2
