I have a PS for Ohana's in July, but keep hearing reviews of
spicy foods/meats/dry meats.

I want to make sure where I eat is good because it is my Hubby's
and I's 13th anniversary dinner.

We love Fulton's crab in DTD and Yatchsmen Steakhouse, too.
BUT I booked Ohana's for something different, since the kids will be at the Neverland club.

any ideas or input is appreciated!!:wave2:

I would say no & no. It's usually very tender & juicy. And I don't notice any spice at all! 'Ohana is one of the best meals on property IMO and we go there almost every trip.

I thought the meat at Ohana was too dry. After trying it 3 times, we probably will not go back. There are so many places we like better.

Just my 2 cents:D

I just replied to another thread that I felt it to be spicy, I went with my mom a few years back and neither of us like anything spicy, I can just about handle mild salsa..lol

We both felt that alot of the food was spicy, I remember the shrimp inparticular...it could have just been the portion we got, but we love so many other restaurants that we won't be going back.

I would agree with BrianD. We found the meat to be juicy and lightly seasoned -- the dipping sauces, which we found were not needed, might add some spice, however.

I didn't find anything to be too spicy...the meat IS marinated in something flavorful, so I would call it "tasty." Even the sauces are not particularly spicy, though very flavorful...one is very sweet, another cilantro, another, maybe ginger? I don't remember offhand, but nothing that struck me as spicy.

We found all the varieties of meat moist, not at all dry, but have read some posts complaining about dry meat. YUCK! If my meat were dry, I would politely tell my server, and he/she would just bring a different skewer (I hope)! There are so many different things to eat at 'Ohana, I'm always surprised when people don't find at least a few things they enjoy.

editing this to add: I just reread your post and remembered the anniversary thing...'Ohana is a VERY loud and bustling restaurant, with kids playing, a ukelele player (though I've always missed this, I think it's the Lapu Lapu coctail;); it's yummy, but IMO, not really very romantic (there is a nice view of the castle, though). You might consider drinks at the Tambu Lounge, a stroll on the beach and dinner at Kona Cafe (which doesn't have a particularly romantic atmosphere, either, but should at least be quieter, and the food is yummy there, too). Only you know what kind of dinner works best for your anniversary celebration, but I'd rather do 'Ohana on a night when the kids were with me.

If you want to do something without the kids, I wouldn't recommend Ohanas unless you want a family atmosphere minus your children... thought DH and I loved it, we went with the rest of my family, and we would not eat there for a romantic dinner out for the 2 of us. Very loud and crazy and kid friendly.

The only thing I recall having any "spice" would be the shrimp, which isn't a big deal since most of the spices come off when you shell it. I can't handle anything with any spice, and I didn't have any issues with any of the food.

We did find the pork to be dry, though better with a sauce, but quickly found other faves (like the shrimp and turkey) and just ate those. There are plenty of choices, if you dont like one or two...

Remember that you can request a skewer cooked a certain way, or without spice, as well.

I'm a picky eater and not a big spice person, but found the food at O'hana's in 2001 very good.

For a very special night, I would recommend the California Grill over O'Hana's though. The food is excellent, as is the service. And the views are AMAZING!!!

No and no, and not all that good. Not a place I would want to spend an anniversary dinner for sure.

You just need to keep in mind that one person's 'spicy' is another person's 'bland'. When my English cousins visited last summer they found the cinnamon in apple pie 'too spicy'.

The one time (so far) that we've been to 'ohanas, the food was neither spicy and/or dry.

We've been there twice and I didn't find the meat to be spicy at all. Probably could have used a little spice actually. It was a tad on the drier side but that is probably to accomodate those who like their steak cooked more than medium. I actually order pork medium to medium-well in restaurants, so maybe their's was well done. But turkey or any poultry should be well done. I can't remember if the turkey was dry or not because I'm not a big turkey fan.

But everyone's tastebuds are different. My Irish FIL's tongue is burning if there is green pepper in something.

I did not think the meat was spicy at all (and I do NOT like spicy foods). Some of the meat was dry - the pork and the turkey I think.

We've been there several times when I found the meat a bit dry. For me, the highlight of the meal are the appetizers. I usually try just a bit of meat, but keep ordering refills on the 'tizers.:D The drinks and the pineapple and carmel are lots of fun too:earsboy:

I have yet to get anything dry or too spicy at O'Hana. Now my DD (she's 13) thinks the shrimp is "too hot". You can ask your server to bring you meat without the seasoning. We did this in March with the shrimp, not a problem at all.
