Is Ohana that bad for breakfast?!?

THANK YOU!! to all for the opinions and advice so far!! It seems to be about 50/50 on the boards too..lol
I usually wouldn't put so much weight onto an ADR decision but we are only staying for the day with no parks this trip so it will be our only TS meal and character interaction. Being limited to resort character meals-Cape May, Park Fare, and Ohana are the options. Lilo and Stitch are my DD's favorite and she is really not that into Alice or Mary Poppins. I did finally come across a Park Fare Cinderella dinner ADR so now we have a decision to make....AHHH!!
We also LOVE Cape May and have eaten breakfast there at least 5 times....I don't think you could go wrong with either Cape May or Ohana. Park Fare we like for dinner but haven't done breakfast. Haven't done dinner in a few years, just because we've found other things we like more.

All the online menus have eggs, sausage/bacon, potatoes, and waffles. I saw they have stitch waffles-do they bring half Mickey and half Stitch waffles? Is the bread and fruit platter included for every table? We have only had breakfast at Ohana once and it was a LONG time ago. I don't remember getting fresh fruit with the meal-just juice which was really good! Can any special requests be made from the kitchen besides the eggs since they seem to be one of the top complaints? I am not vegan but don't eat any sausage products so if the eggs are terrible it would leave me with potatoes and fruit :) Honestly-we are going int

they won't cook eggs to order if that's what you are asking. Is it pork products or sausage? because they do have bacon and biscuits too. Here is a good pic showing the spread from 2014

The food is exactly what you see in these pictures- at least it was in July. Yes, they have added Stitch waffles and they do bring half Mickey and half Stitch. They will bring more of anything you want. I'm not sure if there is a substitute available for the eggs. I did not have an issue with them personally.

I don't either. Yes they are premade in large quantities. I'm sure they use the eggs in a carton rather than freshly cracking eggs, but for scrambled eggs and omelettes this never bothers me. I love a good made to order omelette in that tiny pan at breakfast buffets (it is one of my favorite things about a marriott breakfast buffet lol). I'm sure most places that do a high breakfast volume use the same. I guess I am not an egg snob in any sense of the word, lol.

I've actually found the scrambled eggs to be better the past few years than they were previously. When we dined there in December '15, they were cooked perfectly... even quite fluffy! We also like to have Mimosas with breakfast, too!

We have decided to stick with Ohana after reading some of the positive posts. I realize every restaurant is going to have its critics and negative reviews but the volume was scaring me! It is good to see some DIsers positive opinions for reassurance!! Do they still give leis at breakfast and is there a photo included as part of the meal or is the only benefit to Stitch's photographer for Photopass purchases?

People actually wake up for breakfast??

MG

I'm guessing this was sarcasm, but just in case not...

Sounds like the OP is doing more of a "brunch" with a later ADR. There are folks talking about doing a "brunch" type meal between 10:30 and noon. It's completely reasonable to be awake at that time.

Also, anyone who's ever had a kid knows that little kids don't sleep in. Ever. I'm up at 6:30 every morning, whether I want to be or not (and I'm guessing there are people who would love for their kid to wake up as "late" as 6:30). Someday, my son will turn into a teenager who I'll likely have to drag out of bed but for now, it's early mornings every day.

I had photopass already so I am not sure if it is an included picture or just a photographer there. I'm thinking they are just there and the included pictures have been cut (from many restaurants, not just Ohana).
We did not get leis, but I did see some other tables with them. If you don't get any I am sure you could ask...

We like Ohana. Service is very hit or miss, but the food is always good and the character interaction has always been stellar. I do think its a bit pricey for a breakfast, but my family loves it!

We did not have a good experience. Wait to be seated lengthy. They were taking pictures while you waited but the place was a zoo, with lots of other guests milling about, plus more than normal due to the backlog. Kids got antsy. Food so-so, nothing to write home about. Liked the characters. So, imo, if you want to pay for meeting the characters, and have an ok breakfast, then go for it.

We had breakfast at Ohana in October 2015. We loved it. Food and service were both good. We had to wait about 15 minutes for our table. We were given leis. There was a Photopass photographer who followed Stitch around and would only take pictures of Stitch and no other character, even when we specifically asked him to. No actual physical pictures were given out but the pictures with Stitch showed up in our Memory Maker. We had lots of time with the characters.

I have one final Ohana question if anyone is keeping up with this thread and uses the Disney Dining Plan. How does tipping work? I know that tips are not included in the DDP and have read that they are prefigured into your bill at most character meals so do they give us a separate check for the tip or does using the DPP allow you to leave your own tip?

they give you a check with the amount and the amount of meals credited to DDP and even though you have a 0 balance (assuming nothing purchased OOP like booze) you will have the opportunity to add a tip and that will be your total balance.

Thanks Lisa! In all the reviews I was reading I saw that Disney automatically adds in a tip when paying OOP. Our last trip was to Disneyland and they also do this for character meals which I found slightly unfair because we were required to pay a %20 tip for buffet meals!! I usually just bring cash to pay for tips and charge the meals to the DDP but I wasn't sure if things have changed or if Disney is just adding the tips onto OOP receipts and the DDP procedure has remained the same.

The only time they automatically add the tip is with parties of 6 (or 8?) or more that I know of. We had DDP in July and were always able to designate our own tip amount, including at the 'Ohana breakfast.

Lisa F, those pictures are awesome!!! Sums up the breakfast food very well - we find it great!

OP, so glad you are going to try it. We went for breakfast for the first time 2 trips ago and were very pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed it. Enough so that we booked it again this past February. As others have mentioned, the aspect of the food coming to you is a nice change from the character buffets. And if your DD is excited to dress in her Lilo dress to meet her and Stitch, then you just have to try it! Have a great time!! :flower1:

I think 'Ohana suffers from something that's an issue with a lot of WDW spots... Inconsistency.

We did not have a good experience- food wise, but I know lots of people who love it. It was one and done for us, but with so many people loving it, our 3 rounds of inedible food are likely the exception and not the norm.
