Is Ohana a must-do for a first timer?

I would personally do an early lunch at Sci-Fi and still book the dinner at Ohana's. We did breakfast at Ohana's on our last trip and I loved the atmosphere. The food was excellent and so were the characters (I know, no characters at dinner) but the waiters were fantastic as well. The resort itself is just a relaxing place to be. I personally don't care if we have time to swim while on vacation... we can do that at home.

Ohana makes for a great dinner. If you cant secure a reasonable time, dont fret it. Fit it into your next trip, time it around fireworks at MK, makes it all the more magical. Also, if you can get 50s PTC over Sci-Fi...:)

I do find it interesting too. I am in the middle of planning a two week trip at the end of May, and I have noticed there are plenty of reservations for those popular restaurants. It probably has to do with the credit card requirement. I have booked about 20 ADRS for my trip, and I have only booked 1 with a credit card. I am just not going to play that game. I have noticed that it is more difficult to get places like Kona now (no credit card required). I couldn't get a breakfast at Kona for any day during my trip???? How is that possible???

I just wonder about their system...I don't think it's perfect...we needed a 7PM ADR at Captain's Grille last week, so I called the ADR number and the CM told me they had nothing til 7:30....We went anyways, and got right in, and only a quarter of the tables were occupied......?!?! I would say just show up at Kona one morning and see what happens?!?! (We were a party of 2, maybe a large party wouldn't be so lucky.....?!?!?)

EDIT: I should add that we had a 6:30 ADR and were delayed by our flight, but I don't even think it mattered....I think they would've seated us no problem even with no ADR!

Good Luck!!

My opinion is to save it for another trip. Unless you are staying at Poly, it can be a real hassle to get there and then back to your resort. The wait to check in and be seated was very long also.

Poly is one of the easier resorts to get to. Monorail or boat from MK is quick and easy. To get back to own resort just get on monorail or boat back to MK and bus from there. We find the boat the fastest.

We've never had a long wait to check in or be seated, others have but thats true of just about any WDW restaurant on any given day. I do like that they moved the check in podium away from the entrance and bar area.

We always used to do Sci Fi when going to HS but our new favorite is Mama Melrose. We love Ohanas as well so if you cant get Ohanas go for Mama Melrose.

That is a great idea. I am the only early riser in my group. I might be able to find one other soul to go and try it. I could drive over and give it try. If nothing else I could take advantage of the good coffee!!! Thanks for giving me another good idea for my list.
