Is Mineral Makeup "Addicting"?

I think I figured out this weekend that I am an addict--to mineral makeup (Bare Escentuals and/or Sheer Cover--I use 'em both).

For years I used Clinique, Estee Lauder, and Lancome foundations and was very happy with them. BECAUSE OF THIS BOARD...I decided to give the mineral makeup a try. I've been using it for almost a year now.

So, this weekend I'm feeling REAL lazy, plus I had a bad rosacea flare. I *thought* that maybe my skin needed a little bit more moisture and "grease" so I decided to put my Clinique foundation on. Oh my goodness, I could hardly stand the way it felt on my skin. Then I kept looking at myself and I look wretched, tired, and it wouldn't cover my redness. So, I washed it all off and did everything over with the Bare Escentuals. Ahhhhhh.... :cloud9: . I felt so good.

Then it occured to me--I'm an addict. When did this happen? When I first started using it, I knew I liked it but I really thought "no big deal, we'll see how this stuff goes." Now I can't stop.

Well, seeing how I run a Delphi forum called "Bare Escentual Addicts," I would have to agree with you! I was addicted the very first time I tried it! I can't imagine ever going back to liquid makeup.

Congratulations Christine!

You've just 'graduated' from liquid makeup to mineral makeup!

I never used makeup seriously because it all just looked to messy and time consuming...... but I've been working with mineral makeup for a little over a year now- and although I'm still learning, I really am enthused about the way it seems to even out my blotchy face.

I used to have one co-worker who would look at me periodically and say 'what's wrong with your face?'. Of course her face was even more blotchy than mine...... Now she doesn't comment on my face anymore.

I kind of wish that she would though- I could help her even out her skin too!

Have fun........

I'd never go back to clinque either. Love Bare Minerals and also some of the mineral blush that Laura Geller sells on QVC.

OK - call me clueless. What is so great about this stuff and why is different from other high end stuff (Clinique, etc.) I don't wear make-up much anymore because I hate the way it feels on my face!

HayGan, I can't quite explain it. Like I said, when I first started using it I thought that my skin looked much more flawless, but other than that, I don't think I look as great as the commercials promised (hey, I'm 42). But I continued using it because (as another poster said), it really evened out my skin. I've always been red and splotchy and have very sensitive skin. The high-end stuff never really seemed to do the job, but I managed. In fact, I really LOVED my foundations and loved trying out new things. But now, I just can't go back. My face just feels so much better with this stuff on it.

Thanks for the info Christine!

I finally gave in a went to a dermatologist recently. My skin is worse now at 33 than it was at 16. It is not bad but somewhat regular mini-breakouts so I try to stay away from having anything heavy on my face.

I might have to give in and try this stuff. Any recommendations on a basic foundation?

If you hate how make up feels on your face, you will probably like how this stuff feels.

Funny side note, one day I wore my liquid make up to work, and right away I got questions asking if I was sick! It's the stuff I used to always wear before switching. Don't think I'll ever go back now!

Christine, I've had so much fun in the last year since I found BE and the Addict's site through Christa's posts here! I always refused to wear foundation because of the way it felt and looked, but now rarely go out without my BE on--it just makes my skin look so fresh and even-toned, and you don't feel like like there's anything on your skin at all. On Christa's site, there's also a page called "Let's Go Shopping," where I've picked up tons of little samples of eyeshadows and blush for very reasonable prices. Samples are a great way of seeing how a color will work for you before investing in a larger size--I love getting all sorts of new colors and playing around with them. I used to be a strictly neutral girl, but with all of BE's different colors and formulas, I've really found that I can wear so many different looks.

I love, love, love BE! :)

Hello, my name is Jockaroo and I am addicted to my mineral makeup.

See, confession is good for the soul (and isn't Soul a BE eyeshadow?)

Christa (mckryan), I love your BEaddicts site and post occasionally there under a different name--I visit nearly every day though. It is so nice to know you are also a fellow DISer also! It's a Small World after all.

Has anyone tried this yet? It looks interesting.

Then again I can't put eyeliner on to save my life.

I have Paula Dorf's version of this--it's called Transformer, and it's great. If BE's version is anything like Paula's, it takes any eyeshadow and turns it into a waterproof liner that will last all day. It works great for me, and gives so many more color and liner-thickness options. Love it!

Are we mineral makeup addicts or mineral makeup snobs? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Seriously, I know exactly what you are talking about.

HayGan,
Are you near an Ulta or Sephora store? If so, you can go in there and try the stuff out. I think the best thing, though really, is to get one of the starter kits in a tone that matches your skin tone. I bought the BE Medium kit. It's probably a little too dark for me, but I have been able to work with it and it is fine. The Sheer Cover kit in Medium is exactly the color I need. Either of these starter kits are great and will get you going for a month or two.

Yep...thats how I started. First the kit, now spending every pay day at Ulta. Is there a 12 step program for BE? :rotfl2:

 Hi Kim! Thanks for the nice words!

HayGan - if you want to give it a try, I highly recommend the infomercial kit at www.bareminerals.com. It's the best value for the money!

WatchinCaptKangaroo - Weather Everything is a love it or hate it product on my board. I have some, but I'm too scared to try it! LOL The one recommendation I have is don't let the container OR your brush dry with the solution on it. Everyone says it's very, very hard to get off once it dries.

 Hi Jockaroo! I'm a huge WDW fan, so you'll see me posting here and there. I admit between this board and mine, not much gets done around my house! My husband had words with me about that this morning. Ooops!

For those who'd like to try it out, I've seen lots of starter kits and sample sizes on ebay. They're much cheaper there. I haven't personally bought from there yet. I'm looking into it though. Need to figure out what colors of eyeshadow to get first.

ok, I guess I'm the oddball.

I bought one of the starter kits back in November when somebody posted a discount code. I like the make-up well enough - but I can't keep that powder from flying all over my bathroom and I'm getting really sick of cleaning it up.
