Is Memorial Day as bad as July 4th?

Okay, my DH and I are seriously thinking about going May 20th - 29th this year, since the weather won't be quite as hot as what we are usually used to (we usually go in July), and the kids will still be out of school. Plus, we will have a "free" day off from work with Memorial Day, which is when we'd be flying back to Dallas.

However, I am freaking out :earseek: about our trip being the week before and through Memorial Day weekend. We've been before for the Fourth of July, and it was VERY crazy on the actual 4th in the MK. Will Memorial Day be as bad as the 4th is?

Advise, pleeeeeaaaassseee! Thanks!!!! :wave2:

Not at all....Memorial Day weekend is busy, but July 4 weekend is BUSY !!!!

Enjoy your trip, and congrats on the ticker...keep it going!!

I went the week before Memorial Day a couple years ago and it was great up until the Friday before Memorial Day. Then the crowds started pouring in, although I don't think to July 4 levels. But my experience earlier that week was great. :)

Have a great trip. We may go up part of that week too!

I was wondering the same thing. Touringplans.com shows 7's and 8's compared to 9's for the 4th so I guess it will be OK. I sure hope so. Oh, well it's Disney so it'll be great no matter what!

I would agree the actual memorial day long weekend is crazy. We were at MK one year when they were at max capicity and wouldn't let anyone else in.

I use to go every year leading up to memorial day and it was always busy..we like going in september now and dodging the hurricanes :rotfl:

We'll be there over Memorial Day as well this year. Personally, I don't think it could come close to the madness I saw during Spring Break '02!!!! Not only was it Spring Break, but military members were free and their families were each half price (why we were there!). Every park was maxed out every single day! Absolutely crazy!

I've been there for Memorial Day weekend and the following week before and will again this year. It was crowded but as we've heard many times, get an early start. We went to Universal and IOA on Sunday and Memorial Day, arrived for gate opening, and had no problems. When we left mid afternoon, the crowds were pouring in. Get that early start, take a break, head back to the parks in the evening and you'll be fine!

We've been several times during both time frames and I can tell you that the answer is NO, Memorial Day isn't as crowded. In fact, it's our favorite time to go. The weather is very nice, hot of course, but not ridiculous-hot. Lots of the school systems throughout the country are still in session, so crowds are moderate. The Flower & Garden Festival is going on and that in itself is reason enough to go during this time. We're probably going this year the Saturday before memorial day - the next Sunday.

Have fun -

We are going May 20-30. We are not going into the parks on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. From everything I've read it seems that although it will be busy, but it won't be as bad as Easter week, Christmas, and mid June - mid August. Like others have said it is all about getting to the parks early, having a plan, and leaving when the going gets tough!

I have not been to WDW during the summer in years. How bad should I expect the crowds to be the week of June 12?

It will be crowded once you hit Friday afternoon, continuing through the weekend and to Monday. MK will be extremely crowded on Monday, so go to Epcot...that's what we do. We're going again this year 5/24 - 5/31 and we will avoid MK on Monday.

Wow! Thanks for all the great advice everyone! :goodvibes

I'm thinking now I will definitely stick with our May 20 through Memorial day plan.
