Is May a crowded month at Disney? (sorry if this has been asked recently!)

I've only ever gone to Disneyworld in the fall or early December but was thinking of taking a trip down in May. Any thoughts/experience would be great!

I think this May will be particularly busy. The big 50th anniversary celebration kicks off on the 5th.

I know from reading these boards that some school districts get out as early as the 15th. (We're out on the 26th).

I called recently and asked a CM if the crowds and reservations looked heavier this year because it's been kind of tough sometimes to get through. She said "no." She hasn't noticed an increase from last year. She said they've been so busy because of people booking for the summer. She said the summer reservations are up by 15%! However, I was there last May and it wasn't crowded at all. It was perfect. But on the Saturday we left (the 22nd), there was definitely an increase - the Florida schools got out! I heard most of them get out the 20th this year. Which is good, because we leave the 21st. Perfect again!

We were there last May (the last 2 weeks) Memorial Day weekend was extremely crowded. Otherwise we LOVE IT in May. Weather is great & crowds are low. Oh, we did see an increase in crowds on the weekend bceause it was a Star Wars Weekend. But even so...the crowds are nothing like Christmas week & the summer.

A CM told me the same thing - They didn't notice any large increase for May yet.

Woot! We sure are lucky! If there hasn't been increases yet, chances are it's not going to happen. It already less than 2 months away and not THAT many people are going to plan spontaneous trips.

We used to go in October and then moved to the two weeks after Thanksgiving, but last year we did a last minute trip in May (15-21) and although it was busier than we're used to, it was very, very tolerable - Saturday at MK the day we left was awfully busy though.

I was also told by a cast member that it gets insanely crazy Memorial Day week, but prior to that it isn't bad at all.

I think of it this way: would I want to pull DS out of school for a week a few weeks before it ended for the year if he were older? Nah. And the nunber of schools out in May is negligible compared to June.

I think you're okay. We're heading there the second week of May and I've had little problem with PS, etc. I think June, etc. will be crazy though with #50!

we have gone several times over Memorial Day and find it to be OK. It was packed when we went over Thanksgiving last year.

We have gone in May the last two years and the crowds were not bad.

We're ending our vacation on Memorial Day weekend. We've never been there the end of May. We are looking forward to a good time and hopefully crowds will be manageable!! Can't Wait!!

The first two weeks of May are my absolute favorite time to go. Unfortunately, as kids get older taking them out of school is just not possible. As long as you avoid the Memorial Day weekend, it should be fine.

When we have gone during that time, it wasn't unusual to walk right on to many of the most popular rides (like Buzz Lightyear) on a weekday. It is always crowded at MK on weekends, so I would try to do MK during the week.

I'm glad to hear that, we've going the end of April to May 4th and we picked this time because the weather is generally good and the crowds weren't bad and I was started to get worried after reading about the 50th anniversary that I new nothing about when we booked the trip in September
