I'm trying to decide where to stay in a 1-bedroom, and was wondering if OKW is at all run down, in bad condition, etc. since it's the oldest DVC resort?

I really like it bc/ 1. IT'S HUGE 2. It seems to have a real "resort" feel 3. It has a private porch (not balcony)...(in a related question - do all the rooms in all the DVC resorts have balconys?)

Last question (I promise :rotfl: ) - does the 1-bedroom at OKW have a pull out sofa bed; it has two couches, so are both sofa beds?

I stayed at OKW on a cash ressie for Easter. We had a 1 BR it was awsome! Only 1 sofa is a pull out though.

I think OKW is the only resort with a table for 4 on the patio. I think the other resorts have 2 chairs and a little table to set something on. One thing that I noticed is that the furniture at OKW had some very durable covering. It almost felt plastic-y to me. Maybe it was my imagination. After staying in a 1br at OKW first, I was amazed at how small the SSR and BWV 1BR's are.

Disney would not allow ANY of their resorts to be "run down". We always find it in impeccable condition. The living room has a sofa with a queen sized pull out bed, and a love seat that has no pull out bed, but that we have used for a child to sleep on. The kitchen/living room area is HUGE with a full sized round table and chairs (if you bring in the chairs from the porch,it will seat 8) and there is an easy chair and ottoman as well as the sofa and love seat.

If you go looking for signs of the early 90's, you can probably find it. You might find the appliances don't have the most modern look-and-feel, etc. The furniture covering does have a bit of a plastic look, but I didn't find it uncomfortable (for all I know, it might be "standard" down in key-west).

But as mentioned above, nowhere else can your family set down at for a meal or snack on a patio or an "expensive-looking" dining room table. And the up-keep is up to Disney standards.

OKW's pristine condition, is what caused us to add on there and purchase an additional interest in DVC.

If anyone is interested in any timeshare, I say look at their older properties or areas. That's what we did. We were purchasing BCV, but we toured OKW because I wanted to see how well the properties were maintained. OKW put all our doubts to rest.

No way would I have purchased ANY DVC if OKW was run down.

The only reason we have not stayed at OKW to date, is we have been staying in studios and we prefer the sofa bed in the studio. But we will definitely stay there in 1 bedroom and up in the near future.

As far as wear and tear....the rooms are holding up very well for the age and usage you would think otherwise.

I do think that they could have used a good cleaning in the room I stayed at as far as the dust behind the bed and the A/C intake which was layered so thick in dust I cleaned it myself and sprayed it with Lysol. Otherwise the Bathroom and shower were very clean.

I think your other questions have been answered.....

We just returned yesterday from a long weekend at OKW. Our first visist and not likely to be our last. I actually commented to my sister that I was amazed at the condition of the vila and property considering it's age. Of course our unit did not look brand new but it didn't look like it was over 10 years old either. It was kept in great shape and the size of the units seem much larger than our home resort of SSR. I am still glad we bought at SSR as we like the location, theming and the 12 extra years but OKW is also a fantastic property.

We stayed at OKW and BCV at the end of June. The furnishings were more dated at OKW, but were in better condition than those at BCV. BCV is extremely popular and it shows.

Whenever you find a housekeeping or maintenance problem at a DVC resort, make sure you call and let them know as soon as possible. They usually fix it right away.

Whoever said the appliances were outdated hasn't been to OKW for awhile, because they were all replaced with new ones in the past two years. The decor is not "80's" but turn of the century Key West with beachy Key West colors and a missmatched feel to the furnishings. It has been that way since it opened, and even though some of the fabrics have been changed, they still retain the "missmatched" feel of the originals.

We just stayed there and had a great unit. No problems with the room whatsoever (1 bedroom). The only thing I noted and reported was a loose railing outside the room on the staircase leading downstairs.

The 1BR we stayed in last week must have had updated appliances-they were white and looked fairly new. Everything was in great shape-we noticed crews painting different sections every day, people working on the landscaping.

The place is run down, matress had springs popping thru, frig and stove were broken and had a broken window..................

Is that enought to keep people away
:cool1: :rotfl:  :Pinkbounc :rotfl:

It is the best please try to keep it to yourself
