Is it wrong to "out" the trolls?

And thanks for illustrating my other point, the one about this turning into nothing but another excuse for certain people to get digs in towards those they had a problem with well before FC ever started psoting here. Same old, same old. Not interested in any of it, here, there or anywhere.

I'm glad you chimed in on this thread. I'm also amazed by the people who've never "met" someone who's a little bit different than they are. Wow.....talk about sheltered lives.

I've met many and my 19 year old sister has CHARGE syndrome. She and my 8 year old daughter get along brilliantly and both enjoy the same Nickelodeon shows. I know from experience that FC's behavior isn't that far off the map. However, when she posts on message boards, her style of writing does not change dramatically from one site to another. Yes, disabilities are different but to *ME* the difference between the sites is night and day. I've said before that I believe FC may indeed have some sort of disability but IMO it is being milked here on the DIS and I think that is wrong.

Just like any other issue on the DIS, we'll have people on different sides of the fence. Just like any other troll on the DIS, time usually weeds them out and they dig their own fire pit.

Someone on another post mentioned the possibility of Asperger Syndrom for FC. I am slightly familiar with this but not enough to know it when I see it. However, I checked out O.A.S.I.S (ONLINE ASPERGER SYNDROME INFORMATION AND SUPPORT) and this is what is mentioned on the site:

"By definition, those with AS have a normal IQ and many individuals (although not all), exhibit exceptional skill or talent in a specific area. Because of their high degree of functionality and their naiveté, those with AS are often viewed as eccentric or odd and can easily become victims of teasing and bullying. While language development seems, on the surface, normal, individuals with AS often have deficits in pragmatics and prosody. Vocabularies may be extraordinarily rich and some children sound like "little professors." However, persons with AS can be extremely literal and have difficulty using language in a social context."

Now, I'm not saying this is what FC has but it could be something similar. I don't think he's a troll, not by the definition most of us have on this board, but I do think he has some issues. I'm just not ready to light my torch for a massive witch-hunt at this time.

This is what concerns me about a group of people who are self labeled the "Troll Police" They go around outting people they think are "off" and pretty soon people are afraid to post because something might be posted about them. The internet is a big place and sometimes we all have said things on it that we wish we hadn't, we grow and change. I have been around since before the advent of the WWW. I have a bazillion posts out there and some of them are wonderful and some of them....

What about people who post to religious boards but those faith systems are not in the main stream? Do they want that information posted here? Some people say, "well they put it out there so..." but not here, not on the DISboards.

I just think this sort of thing smacks an awful lot of big brother. Sure if they are "Trolls" it's OK but there seems to be some real questions about whether FC is a troll or someone with some strong views who are not mainstream? I am not going to place myself in the place of being this persons judge and jury and wonder if anyone here has led the perfect kind of life or knows enough, really, to do that. This thread has a feeling of a "with us or against us" witch hunt that makes me nervous.

On Boing Boing recently there was an article from a Texas Sheriff that wants to put cameras in everyone's private homes. Why? If they aren't doing anything wrong then they won't care. Is it really that far from judging posts and "Outting trolls" to this? Not as far a leap as some might think.

From what I understand, FC is on vacation. For those who feel very defensive of him and/or think he is sensitive due to medical issues, maybe it would be a good idea to let this thread get buried so that he doesn't come back and see all of this discussion?

And to those who think he is a troll or whatever, what would it hurt to let this drop...no one is going to change their minds so what is the point? Just seems redundant at this point.

If he is a troll, this is just feeding him, if he is unsound mentally, this is cruel. Seems better to me to just drop it.

Just my two cents.

If it were up to me, this thread would never have been started in the first place for the reasons you stated above, which were also pretty much what I had to say about the matter all along.

But what the hey, this whole exercise has been grand entertainment for so many for so long. Why stop now?

I am familiar with AS (my son is high-functioning autistic although not dx as Asperger's) We are exposed to AS kids on a daily basis. While each case is different, AS people aren't going to communicate in a childlike manner in one situation and as a well-educated adult in another. The links provided earlier showed FC in his own words describing how he could use a different demeanor to get his point across. A person in the spectrum certainly wouldn't understand that concept. That involves an understanding of emotions which is a primary challenge of those within the autism spectrum.

I myself thought that FC could be within the autism spectrum until that other post surfaced. I don't think he was out to harm anyone but IMHO his alterior motives have come to light. He very well may have some challenges that he doesn't want to reveal and that is his right. It is also our right to questions someone's motives if they don't appear to be truthful or if they appear to have less than good intentions. However, name calling is not appropraite.

For his sake, whatever his issues are, I hope that FC has a strong support system in his everyday life. The internet (and specifically a Disney related board) is not the proper place for someone with mental challenges to seek comfort and support. Without knowing a person's challenges from the begining, people are going to judge and in some cases criticize behavior that they find to be "odd" It happens everyday in the real world, so why wouldn't it happen here. I'm not saying that it is right but certainly the internet due to its' very nature is a place that everyone (and especially someone with mental challenges) should be very careful of.

I agree. This should also apply to another thread FC had started a while ago which was revived for the sole purpose of others to make jokes about.

Calling someone "deceitful" implies that they deliberately lie. In FC's case, I think he simply has a different style of expressing himself.

Well, deceit can be characterised as a form of expression. It's certainly different from the most of us 'express ourselves'.
