Is It Wrong That We Get Most Excited About the Food!?! W/ PICS COMPLETED!!!

Thanks for the tip on the potato salad, made a note not to order it when we go for the first time in Nov.:thumbsup2

Yep, I make my own whipped cream. It's pretty easy.

I buy the carton of whipping cream in the dairy section at the grocery store. I chill the bowl to my Kitchenaid stand mixer. Then pour the cream in the bowl, attach the whip and start it up. I then gradually add some powdered sugar and a little vanilla extract (or sometimes almond if I want a little different flavor). Then I just let it whip. So yummy!!

Great reviews and pictures. Can't wait to read and see more. The breakfast at CP looks great. We are doing Tusker House on our next trip and I hope it is as good.

Great reviews, the fruit at CP sounds delicious and so does the Shake at the Plaza :)

Great pictures - you are making me hungry! I feel like I should already know this, but what is inside the puffed french toast?

great plaza review...we are looking forward to trying it for the first time this sept, and this gives me high hopes!!

another first timer for us for next trip is narcoosees- cant wait till its posted!! thanks again for sharing your thought and pictures!!

:goodvibes

Great review with awesome pictures! I totally agreee with the title too, the food is the thing I look forward to most as well!

We're off to The Plaza in January too!!! :thumbsup2

(So far, that's 3 out of 3 restaurants that we have in common!)

We loved The Plaza last time we went. It's such a pretty restaurant, with very yummy food. And amazing air-conditioning, if I recall correctly!! :)

Oh thanks for the Plaza review, we have it scheduled for an early lunch in Oct and I was thinking about cancelling but now I will keep it! And order fries!
No, definitely keep it! You won't be disappointed - it was a really great lunch.

I know! I totally forgot too!! But we had lots of other "firsts" so we'll save that one for next time!!! I ate so much I don't know how I would have fit it in anyway!!
Exactly! That's why we didn't even think about it - we were too busy eating everything ELSE. he he he Well, October it is, then!

::mouth hangs open::

The Plaza looks amazing!
Oh, it *was*. I was definitely glad I booked there, and everytime I see the photos, I want a turkey club. ;)

Yeah, that was the only thing that wasn't 'great' about the meal. But everything else was wonderful!

Okay, that IS easy - and sounds so good! I'll have to give it a try one of these days.

Oooh... I wonder how Tusker House is, too. I haven't been since they changed it to a sit down restaurant, but at some point I know I'll try it. You'll have to let us know how it is!

Great reviews, the fruit at CP sounds delicious and so does the Shake at the Plaza :)
They both were! I wish they had Disney food by my house!

Great pictures - you are making me hungry! I feel like I should already know this, but what is inside the puffed french toast?
Actually, nothing! It's just a really puffy bread (not sure how they do that!) with cinnamon swirled inside.

I'm sure you'll love Narcoossee's. This was our first time there and we loved it - and we're not even seafood eaters!

Great review with awesome pictures! I totally agreee with the title too, the food is the thing I look forward to most as well!
Thank you! It really is the greatest part of the vacation, isn't it?

We're off to The Plaza in January too!!! :thumbsup2

The a.c. was SO NICE that day in the 80 degree weather. Although, it wasn't anywhere near as hot or humid as I thought it would be, but getting inside and sitting down in the Plaza with the blasting air was the best.

Everything looks so good! Thanks for posting! :cool1:
I'm glad you're enjoying the reviews! :goodvibes

We had made our Narcoossee's ADR for the night of July 4th to watch the MK fireworks from their terrace. We figured there was no way we'd want to crowd onto Main Street to see the fireworks, everyone would be at 'Ohana or CA Grill (which wound up having a special event for $200 p/p anyway), so that left the Grand Floridian - and Narcoossee's that's right on the water. Well, what an amazing experience it turned out to be!

Our ADR was scheduled for 7:10 - we had wanted a bit later since the fireworks were scheduled for 9:00, but this worked out fine. We were actually a bit late because getting a monorail or boat from the MK was proving tough, but it wasn't a problem at all. We checked in and asked if we could have a table by the window. The hostess said that we wouldn't be able to see the fireworks from our table because everyone goes outside, but that she would put us down for a window table, but it could be up to an hour wait. Well, it was more like a one minute wait. No sooner had I stepped foot into the bathroom to grab a tissue did I come out and DH said our pager was going off.

We were lead to a table right next to the window... and directly behind the hostess stand. DH asked if I wanted to wait for a different table, but I said to just take it and we were seated. I'm happy to report that it was a WONDERFUL location - we did not feel like we were crowded by the hostess or that it was extra noisy or that tons of people were rushing by us. I'm guessing that any table you sit at in the restaurant will be wonderful.

Our waitress, Janet, came to say hello and take our drink orders (red wine for DH, Champagne for me). She was fabulous - so friendly and was such a great server. She really made the night! After she put in the drink orders she brought out the bread and butter.

That's sea salt on the butter! Yum... it gave such a good flavor to the bread.

For an appetizer I ordered the seafood bisque.

HPIM2208.jpg

Now, I have to start off by saying that the Lobster Bisque from Coral Reef is my most favorite soup ever. In the world. So I constantly find myself comparing other bisque soups to that one. I have to say that Narcoossee's bisque really wasn't better than CR's. Actually, not even close! It's not that it was *bad*, because it wasn't. It's just that it can't compare with the one at CR. I found it to be very, very bland and wanted to dump some salt into it just for some kind of flavor, but I refrained. I did like that it was crab meat in the soup, which is a nice change from the lobster meat that's usually used in these kinds of soups, and the crostini they give you was wonderful. It was my favorite part, and I broke it into little pieces and put them in the soup, and that gave the soup some flavor! Once I was done with the crostini, though, I gave up on the soup.

DH got the tomato salad.
HPIM2209.jpg

Unfortunately none of the menus I could find online have this listed, but it was tomatoes (obviously), prosciutto, mozzerella and other things that I cannot remember. I really wish I could, though, because it looked so beautiful coming out - DH actually said, 'Wow!' - and he said it tasted even better. He also said it tasted 'different' than any other tomato and mozzerella salad he's had and wished he knew how to make it at home. He finished the entire thing.

Since we are boring and don't like seafood, we both ordered the filet. Grilled Filet Mignon - potato gratin and green peppercorn brandy sauce $38 (from All Ears)
HPIM2210.jpg

HPIM2211.jpg

Mine is the one with the green beans. Since I am allergic to broccoli and it came with broccolini, the chef steamed some green beans for me. They were not bad, just regular old steamed beans, so I didn't eat much of them. But the filet was WONDERFUL. I asked for medium and it did come out a little on the pink(er) side, but it was so juicy and tender it didn't matter to me at all. And the Peppercorn sauce gave the filet a nice 'kick' - just the tiniest hint of a spice, and different from most filets I've tried. The scalloped potatoes were yummy, but they were more of a 'cheddary' taste than the 'creamy' taste you expect from these kinds of potatoes. I liked that they were different than what you'll find at all the other restaurants.

At this point it was about ten minutes until the fireworks so Janet brought us out another glass of wine each to take onto the verandah to watch. We were planning on ordering desserts when we came back after the show, but by the time we sat down we were so full we just got the check. I know, how terrible, right?

Even though this is a dining report, I want to tell you how amazing the fireworks were. I wish my camera took better night photos because we only got two of the fireworks, and they weren't good at all. But the show was just breathtaking. Narcoossee's pipes in the music onto their verandah, which I had a hard time finding out before booking the ADR because no one really seemed to know. But from this vantage point, not only could you see the fireworks over the castle, but you could see them right in front of your face as they were also being shot off from the island in the center of the Lagoon. And the grand finale was incredible - fireworks were shot off over the castle, the Contemporary, the Polynesian, the Grand Floridian AND the island in the middle. They were literally SURROUNDING us. You could hear everyone on the verandah gasp. It was simply amazing. Plus, we could see the electrical water pagent, which stopped in the middle of the Lagoon, with it's patriotic scene AND the MGM fireworks in the distance. It was such an amazing time, in fact, that we've already decided we're doing it again next year for the 4th!

So the total for two adults after tax and tip (again, no DDE for the holiday!) was $196.14. Yes... *expensive*, but don't forget, we had several glasses of wine and to be honest, the experience was so amazing, the price didn't matter.

I'm glad you tried the cookie dough shake! I try to mention it in every post about the Plaza that I read! It is sooooo good! :lovestruc I can't wait to get another in September! ;) No need on spending time looking at the menu, cause I always get the Reuben too, it's great!

I'm so happy to read another positive review of Narcoossee's. We'll be trying it for the first time in November. The fireworks display you guys saw sounded simply breathtaking!:thumbsup2

of our anniversary trip at Narcoossee's and are really looking forward to it. Our ADR is for 7:20pm and wishes that night is at 8:00pm. It should be the perfect ending to our trip!

Thanks for the great review and pics!

Karen

I had a hard time deciding between Narcoosee's and California Grill for my birthday dinner. I ended up choosing CG, but after your review of Narcoosee's I'm second guessing my choice.

Yeah, that shake was excellent! I wish we could get the ice cream up here, 'cause then I'd be living on them! :rotfl:

You will definitely love it there - we both really enjoyed ourselves.

OMG!! Narcoosee's sounds amazing!! I can't wait to go next year, yay!!!
The four of us are going to have the greatest time! Is it July yet? he he he

That's he perfect timing - you will love it there.

Please don't second guess your choice of CA Grill! I loved Narcoossee's and will definitely go back for the next July 4th BUT California Grill is BY FAR my most favorite restaurant on property. I love it. I cannot say enough good things about it and how absolutely wonderful the food (and the view) is there. You definitely made a great choice for your bday dinner! And the CA Grill has a much wider menu - the sushi is phenomenal (the best I've ever had anywhere!), the filet and pork loin are amazing, and the honey crunch cake for dessert! YUMMMMMM

great review of narcoosees!! im so excited, and cant wait for this dinner!! ty :)
Thank you! It was definitely a great dinner. :thumbsup2

Isn't Narcoossee's awesome? We were there back on Nov. 30th. We did get to see the Electrical Water Pageant. It was fantastic. We are seafood people, so we both had the Whole Maine Lobster which was awesome! Hubby actually still talks about Narcoossee's. We sat on the upper tier, not at the windows and we could still see to the castle with no problem and I don't remember that many people being out on the deck.
