I am going to WDW in March and I have purchased the Quick Service Dining plan ( 2 QS Meals / 2 Snaks ). The cost is $39 per adult per day and $ 15 for children. I can see that the cost for the children is good or at least a break even but I am wobdering about the adult ones. For $ 39 for two meals....$19.50 per meal.... when looking at the QS menus and prices I think I can eat cheaper than that. Even when you figure the meal, drink and desert its cheaper than that. ( Average entree $ 9.50, lots are less.. + Drink $ 2.50 + Desert $ 3.99 = $ 16.00 ) Even when you add on the two snacks it looks cheaper. Has anyone ever run the totals to see if its cheaper or just a break even. Disney says its UP TO a 20% savings but im sure thats based upon you getting the most expensive stuff each and every time. HELP me decide! Thanks :grouphug:popcorn::

I find that we actually come out cheaper paying oop because we share meals generally and dont order dessert. We have paid for the CS plan once, and are getting free CS dining on our next trip. You also get the refillable mugs...if you buy those normally that is a good savings. I like the idea of having meals prepaid. On our last trip we put money on a Disney Gift card, and used that for meals. Worked well for us.

It depends on how you eat. If you want dessert for eveyone at every meal and plan to not share, then yes it's worth it. If i remember correctly last fall I paid a little over $9 just for a hamburger and fries not including drink and dessert. At other CS, I paid around $14 (sunshine at Epcot and somewhere at AK). Snacks and desserts are all around $3-5 and drinks around $2 for the regular size (btw with the dining plans you can ask for the big drink at no extra cost) For 2 adults and 3 kids, it would cost us an average of $45-$55 per meal if it wasn't for the plan.

Don't forget with the QS you get also the refillable mug for the resort which is usually around $14 each.

HI I think the child's is not worth it...the variety is not that good and you really dont get alot, so if your child eats good it may not be enough variety or food. For most of the cs places you pay $4.99 and then if you get 2 snacks you are pretty much breaking even. We pay WAY less oop, but stupid me insists on doing it cuz it is more convient...I got free qs this summer so am happy with that....if we dont want the dessert, we just always gave it to someone at another table, they were always packaged so people were more than happy to take them and thankful! This time I will probably pass on desserts at most places. Funny when it started a few years ago the adult was 29.95 and the regular was 39.95, my how times have changed....it was worth it then.

The numbers are deceiving you.

For example: We paid OOP for 2 medium sodas and 2 hot dogs at Casey's. No fries, no dessert and the bill was $16.00.

To add the fries would be an additional $2.50 and the brownie $2.50 more. That is $5.00 per person.

$8 + $5 = $13 per person. Not $9.50

Oh and the plans include tax, that is something we pay for if you are paying OOP.

This happens all the time.

Now if you don't eat like the plan then yes you MAY come out ahead. But if you like to splurge while on vacation, not share your meals, then the plans CAN be a savings.

The plans are no bargain IMO. I have priced out many scenarios and in every case my OOP cost is roughly what the DP costs me. And I factor in tax.

the benefit of the DP then is ease of mind and having it prepaid.

the benefit of no DP is you eat exactly how you want....i.e. grab an appie, skip dessert, order 4 apps for 7 people and then 2 desserts so al get a forkful.

but when they give it away for free...and that value is greater than any other discount you might be eligible for...then it is worth doing.

but man...they really jacked the price up...took away the tips inclusion, dropped the apps...it used to be a REAL bargain. not anymore IMO.

For us the plan is less about being a bargain, and more about the convenience of the prepay and the pleasure about not having to think about what we are ordering and how to save money (we are getting the dxdp). You can ALWAYS find a way to eat cheaper, but for my family that is not a vacation.

You have to do what works for your family. That's why it's a choice!

I am right there with ya! I just found out we are paying the $39.99 adult and $16.99 child (could not see that in package online) in March too. I am racking my brain right now adding up meal costs (with tax) OOP vs. the plan. I think I am about to call Disney and take it off!

While some restaurants like WPE and Sunshine you can get a decent dessert, to get your $39.99 worth you have to eat the most expensive thing, drink and dessert and most CS just have carrot and choc cake.

My math says if I don't worry about the most expensive thing on the menu, order what I think we would eat, not get choc or carrot cake - and spend that money on better snacks we really want around the park.

Entree/ Drink for 2 meals, 2 snacks @4 each and tax = $35 a day
*even eating a few meals at WPE, etc.

I am going to use the extra money to buy breakfast and more fun snacks!

My sis and I can probably share, or I will share with my 5 YO and forgot the kids meals.

I am very disappointed that Disney took a $10 price hike in one year. Our last two trips were during free dining and I said I would never mess with the extreme ADRs again. 45 minutes to get seated and 1 1/2 to eat.

I am going to go even easier on this trip and enjoy a Hot Dog at Caseys without worrying about spending enough on the dining plan, snack on delicious treats around the world in Epcot and share a few meals with an extra salad or fries on the side.

We are driving and will bring drinks and water with us and have a fridge in the room at POR so no need for refillable mugs. If you aren't driving use Garden Grocer - Last trip I had 120 drinks, water, gatorade and cokes delivered to our room for $80. It was SO worth it. We carried a small cooler into the parks with the stroller.

I am going to keep saying I am not cheap - and I will probably spend more than $40 a day pp on food - but it will be what I want to eat and better than choc and carrot cake in a cup!
