OK, here is my exciting dilemma: My dh and I have been trying to add to our family for 16 months. I finally got a positive pregnancy test 2 weeks ago, I am due around Christmas. My problem is that my family and I have a trip planned to Orlando the last week of Sept. and the 1st week of Oct. for free dining at POP, booked it last September as a bounceback with free dining and was planning to take my kids to MNSSHP. I will be hugely pregnant, 28 weeks. I have pretty high risk pregnancies, I'm type 1 diabetic, have had a placental abruption, irritable uterus, and preeclampsia causing my last to be born at 36 weeks, but I haven't ever been on bedrest. We could change airline tickets and go in a 1.5 weeks :scared1:, but it will cost us around $700more to change airline tickets. The pros- I will be 7 weeks preggo, we could go to P&PP (I don't think it's sold out), it will be flower and garden festival. The cons- We can't go to MNSSHP, it will cost more money, no free dining, most likely we will be offsite with a car or onsite without a car (In Sept. we will be onsite with car), the kids will have to miss 6 days of school vs. 3 in Sept. So, I don't know what to do. I feel that it is best to keep our plans to go in Sept., but I get so big:rolleyes1 I gained 60+ pounds with all 3 of my previous pregnancies. I am super excited to be pregnant, but timing wasn't the best as far as Disney World is concerned. So, experienced moms what would you do if you were in my situation?

PS We can't go after the baby unless we go offsite, because my youngest turns 3 on Dec. 8th. So, that rules out staying onsite.

Have you spoken to your OB about this trip? I can't imagine with your history they would be for it. I think the health of you and your new baby would be priority in ANY situation. It just stinks that the situation is your trip to Disney. I would err on the side of caution and plan the trip for some other time. The kids missing school isn't that big a deal...my kids miss school every trip-and usually a full week or more. If they are good students and you follow up with the assignments the teachers give you there's nothing to worry about.
So this is #4?? CONGRATULATIONS!!!! My #4 DS is going to be turning 1 our last day at Disney....time goes by so fast...enjoy your prenancy! I'm in envy! :cloud9:

I'd probably move the trip, either to earlier in the pregnancy or until after the baby arrives. I'm a worrier by nature and I'd be too anxious to enjoy the trip that late in the pregnancy given your history. Have you talked to your OB about it yet? Mine is against even a small weekend trip 2hrs from home that we're planning for June (when I'll be 34w), and I've only had easy, low-risk pregnancies and births with no reason to think this one will be any different.

I don't really get huge during pregnancy (I'm 25w, not really showing, and still haven't gained back the weight I lost during the morning sickness phase), so I can't really speak to the discomfort factor. How were your past pregnancies, in terms of being on your feet when you were that far along?

I wouldn't worry about the missing school factor. We pull our kids out every year for a family trip, and haven't had a problem yet.

And remember - the ASMu suites sleep 6, so staying on site isn't out of the question even with the new addition!

Go in a 1.5 weeks - how cool with that be! A trip that was scheduled for a million years away will now be in just a few days - WOW. Plus, with your issues, I just wouldn't take the chance of going when you are so far along. Plus you'll be bigger, it will be SO HOT at that time.... I know it will mean extra $$$ if you go now, but I think its worth it - Say hi to Mickey for me!

With approval from your doctor, your children's teachers and the budget, I would go for sooner and onsite without a rental car.

Even if your doctor would approve travel at that point in your pregnancy, you most likely would be anything from very uncomfortable to absolutely miserable.

I've never had children, but watching those I love have children has been an interesting experience. Even those who really loved being pregnant--and many had minimal weight gain--were absolutely miserable the last four or five weeks. And those with higher risk pregnancies usually were on bed rest at that point--that's not to scare you, just what occurred in those cases.

Here's hoping you have a wonderful, healthy pregnancy!

My two pregnancies were low risk....yet the last 8 weeks of my pregnancy...I couldnt walk....Disney would have been out of the question.

Btw- my little one turns 3 a week after yours...exactly :D

The x-treme heat in September + pre-eclampsia issues = not a good combo.

I would either go next month or wait until after baby #4 arrives safe and sound.

First of all....CONGRATS!!!! :cool1:

I think you can probably only answer that question for yourself. I went in September, and was due Feb 3, so I would have been a month or so less along than you, and I was completely fine. Your doctor may think differently for you because of your past pregnancy issues.

For *me*, the first trimester was a lot harder than the second, so moving the trip up would have been worse for me because I would have just been more fatigued. As for going later-going now with an infant seems like it would be a daunting task- I'm glad we took the big kids before their baby brother was born. He already doesn't like the heat- he would have been miserable in FL. In fact, I don't plan on going again until he's at least 2.

Oh dear, aren't you in a pickle here... I will probably be very hot in September and if you are going to be that heavy it might get quite uncomfortable with all the walking and all. If I were you, I'd spend the extra 700 dollars and have a great time now that you can.

Many high risks get more serious as preg. goes along. By 28 weeks, you could be OK, or you could be on complete bed rest by then. I went to WDW at 17 weeks--great, no issues, starting a few week later, I got HBP, then by 28 weeks, I had toxemia and in the hospital--by 29 weeks---I was a Mom!! We all did just fine---fyi--my perinatologist would have you on Bedrest at 24 weeks. best wishes. Ealine

Considering your history, I would play it safe. You would never forgive yourself if something happened and you knew you could have changed your plans. Check with your OB, and go from there.

I'll be 23 weeks preggers in 3 weeks and heading down to WDW but I'm not high risk.

Good Luck!

Congrats! I just came back from our WDW trip and I am 28 weeks preggo. However I am not a "risk" pregnancy. With that said def. talk to your doctor and see what he would recommend and go from there. But def better to be safe than sorry.:goodvibes

Well I am 31 weeks pregnant right now, and I know I would be absolutely miserable to be at Disney now. Even at 28 weeks I felt terrible. I am having twins this time, but even with my son, I would have been miserable. I know my OB would not let me go, being high risk. Personally, I would wait until after the baby comes...JMO. We did go when my SIL was about 2 months pregnant and she had no problems and that was in July...

HTH and Congrats!

I wouldn't have hesitated to go to WDW when 28 weeks pregnant, but I always had easy pregnancies with no complications (even with my last, when I was 41), I could walk for miles up until the last week or so, and I'm not bothered by heat. With your history, however, there is no way I would go in September. I would either go for the trip in a week and a half or, more likely, postpone until next year. Whatever you decide, congratulations on your pregnancy and have a wonderful trip, whenever it may be.

Judging from your siggie, this wouldn't be a once in a lifetime trip so given your history- I would postpone. If the budget works, moving it up is an option but I would definitly not risk my pregnancy.

I would go now. I ended up delivering my DD at 29 weeks 2 days with pre-eclampsia in August 2006. I wouldn't want to be in FL in that heat worrying about my BP and if every little tingle was something to worry about.

If it were me, I would skip the trip all together until after the baby is born. If you go now, you wouldn't get free dining. Plus, you said you just went in September. Did you already pull the kids out of school for that trip? If so, that would mean pulling them twice in the same school year which may not go over well with the teachers or principal. I definitely wouldn't go in September, given your history. There's just no reason to risk it. I think I would book for free dining in 2009 instead. :)

Well, just an update, kinda. We still don't know what we are going to do. We know we aren't going in 1.5 weeks because I'm a school nurse and I have the infamous puberty classes scheduled that week. I didn't look at my schedule when I was crunching numbers. So, we have 3 options now: 1) go the 1st weekend in June, but this will cost $1435 dollars more:scared1: 2) go in Sept. and maybe take someone (ie babysitter, MIL) to help out with kids and take it slow 3) Go next spring, but we already have purchased airline tickets for Sept. so I don't know the rules for changing the dates, and we will definately NOT be able to stay onsite due to our 2 year old turning 3 in Dec. So, just more food for thought, I'm thinking about maybe trying for Sept. and looking for some trip insurance. I don't know, I'm at a loss. I wish I could make up my mind so I could just relax. Thanks, to all of the posters. It is nice to hear the encouragement.

Congrats!

I am a high risk OB labor and delivery nurse and it sounds like you have had just about everything! ;) Normally, I would say you are pregnant, not dead but I truly would be concerned with your history. If and when you decide to go, HYDRATE, HYDRATE and HYDRATE!!!! Dehydration makes for a very irritable uterus! GOOD LUCK!!!
