Is it worth it? 1Br vs Studio for 2 adults

We stay in studios...no way am I using twice the amount of points for a washer and dryer...we have a hot tub at home, so the soaker tub is not a selling point, and neither is the king size bed. I guess we're just cheap! We both can fall asleep if the other is on the couch watching TV. I get up in the AM and sit on the balcony...he golfs... We can go on twice as many trips or get 2 bedrooms if the DGK are coming.

I always book a 1 BR, we like the extra space, more comfortable. Also I like having the washer and dryer in the room, that way I can pack light.

DW and I rarely spend time in the room so we usually opt for a studio, which also allows us to go a few more times a year.

We tried a one bedroom. We were staying at BLT in a studio and then switched to BWV 1BR. We found we were always in the same room at the same time. We sleep in a queen at home, so the king seemed way too large for us. After a few days we switched to a BWV studio and it was much more our style.

So if you want a kitchen, a king size bed or a jacuzzi tub or if you have different sleeping habits then consider a 1 BR. If we found if we stay in a studio we can stay longer. :thumbsup2

I'm always going back and forth over the same thing, do a studio or a 1 bedroom. Since a 1 bedroom is twice the points, I always try to look at it as what I would prefer to do with those extra points:

- stay twice as long in the studio (twice as long sounds good)
- upgrade to the 1 bedroom (really like king bed and tub)
- rent out the points and spend the money on something else like dining, etc (free food, yum yum)

And then, even after I've made my list I still waffle back and forth.

YES! That is me.... LOL

Anything longer than 3 nights we would get a 1 bedroom. I used to get up early and sit on the balcony with a cup of coffee, but the last few trips I've been the one to sleep in and DH goes out to the living room to watch TV until I get up.

When its just my wife and I we do studios, when we invite family or friends we do a 2 bedroom. We usually do a split stay 5 days studio, 5 days 2 bedrooms.
As for a 1 bedroom we do not do them. We both go to sleep and wait up at the same times which helps. But I feel a little guilty with all that extra space, I would rather save the points and invite family or friends.

Personal opinion only, we did not buy DVC to stay in studios, I prefer regular rooms over studios. So yes to me the points are always worth it for a one or two bedroom villa.

We aren't too bothered about the tub as we are shower people but I missed the kitchen and laundry when we stayed in a studio.

However on our next trip we have a studio booked but I am now seriosuly thinking of upgrading to a 1-bed for the latter part of the trip as I do love the extra space. I will make sure we do the studio first, going from a 1-bed to a studio would be a little upsetting!

10 days is a long time to be squished in a studio. Quality over quantity. A split stay adds a bit more hurry up and move around as well. I would vote for less days and larger accommodations so points don't have to be borrowed and just stay at one resort.

I didn't read all the responses, so I apologize if what I will say is repetitive....

but, the answer to your question is "yes" and "no."

Yes it is worth it for the laundry facilities. If you are staying for 10 days, realistically you'll use the laundry. When we stay in 1Br villas, we always do laundry on the 3rd day, even if we're only staying for 4 nights! Plus its nice to dry your swimsuit quicker.

No, it is not worth it because if you don't plan on using the kitchen facilities and there are only two adults, do you really need the extra room? We stayed in a 1BR for 4 nights this past February (BCV) and although it was nice to have the extra room, I didn't do anything with that extra space. We only sat at the little "table" to eat breakfast- we usually eat on the balcony otherwise. I think unless you have kids or a ton of points, a 1BR is just a luxury, not a necessity.

And people you aren't helping me by talking me out of the upgrade to a larger room LOL ;) I suppose if we used more points for a lake view at hubby's request, we can WL a one bedroom for BWV. We are planning to do a cruise next year so I think if we do WDW it'll only be for 4-5 days as an add on. I think I may bite the bullet and do the waitlist and surprise my husband. ;)

When we first became members, we always thought we would be staying in studios. The point cost just makes so much more sense.

Then... we bought more points, and thought we would always stay in studios... with the occasional splurge for a 1BR.

Then......... we bought MORE points... and thought we would always stay in 1BR units.

Then.............. you can see where this is going...... we bought more points.... and have stayed in a Grand Villa two times in the last year! HAHA

Regardless, you'll have a great time - so no need to worry too much!

This is exactly why we have never stayed in a 1 bedroom. Afraid that once we go there, we will always want a 1 bedroom and then we would have to buy more points. So, for now, we stay with the studio, which is enough space for our small family. If you do a 1 bedroom for part of your stay, I'd definitely choose the second half. Moving to a studio for second half, I think you'd definitely miss the space.

I call it a "trip" when the 2 of us stay in a studio and a "vacation" when we stay in a 1 bedroom.

^^^ Yes, this. We stay in 2BRs with 2 adults, 3 kids even though we could book a 1BR. It feels like a vacation with plenty of space, and we like the kitchen for snacks, beverages, quick breakfast items, a frozen pizza if we don't feel like going out for dinner. We also like being able to keep up with laundry while traveling and it is much easier having a washer/dryer in our villa. DH and I will likely book 1BRs once we are traveling alone. We would rather have more space over longer trips now that we have been to WDW so many times and don't want to spend as much time in the parks.

Well, when we win the HGTV Smart Home in Jacksonville, we'll be seasonal residents. So with our seasonal APs, we'll head to WDW Mon-Fri in an OKW studio and then take I95 back home. :lmao:

It will only be OKW for the two of us for four nights at a time.

When we do trips with just the 2 of us, we are fine in a studio at any of the resorts that have the bed plus the pullout; we like having the sofa for TV watching and such. Especially for trips less than a week. However, we don't like the setup of the OKW studios if it's just the 2 of us so would do a 1BR there if we had points to spare and wanted a little extra luxury. Either way works for us, though.

I have only booked a 1 bedroom for just the 2 of us ONCE in nearly 10 years of membership, but I am determined to do just that in the future. Part of the "problem" is that we seldom only do just the 2 of us, so we stay in a studio for a few nights, and then get a 2 bedroom or treehouse when our guests come. Now that DH is retired (TODAY!), once we begin booking out of our 2014 March UY, we will be staying longer and I hope I loosen up the purse strings enough to give us a 1 bedroom every now and then! We'll see.
