Is it weird to shop around for an orthodontist? UPDATE

Shopping around is normal. Even encouraged. X-rays are usually yours if not find a different practice. Seven is not an unusual age to go. At this time they are usually just monitoring it. When you find the right fit you will know.

Took my 3 to the dentist today. As expected he has concerns about my youngest teeth. I do to but him recommending her to go see a specialist this young worries me. she is ONLY 7.

Please tell me this is too early to worry about her teeth. (I know we will have to deal with it later but I was thinking 11-13 to start) Heck she just lost her first tooth last summer and only lost 3 so far.

Our dentist recommended ds to see an orth at 7 also. She said that's the age that they start screening for any potential problems. It doesn't mean they'll put braces on a 7 yr old, like my ds was hoping for. There are preventative things that can be done early on or just monitor her for a while.

Ds is 10 and still doesn't have braces and we see the orth every 6 mos.

To the pp asking about xrays, please take your films/images from original orth to any 2nd opinions instead of repeatedly xraying your child. Not only for the money but unnecessary radiation exposure too. I work in xray and people sign their films out all the time. Signing out films is a full time job for multiple people at most hospitals. Don't feel guilty!:thumbsup2
