I alos can confirm that it is Not true. In fact, in your contract it says explicitly that DVC ownership does not qualify you as a FL resident. Now if you have some other FL property and choose to declare that your primary residence and get a FL driver's license, that'll do it, but nothing short of that.

I read the contract. Also asked "the guide" directly at the time we purchased (a few years ago). That's why I was surprised to read this in 2001 Unofficial Guide (p 53):

"Special Tip for Florida Time-Share Owners -- If you own an interest in a time-share property in Florida, including the Disney Vacation Club, you are eligible for Florida resident discounts on admissions. You must provide a copy of your lease or purchase contract and a picture ID."

Perhaps Disney changed this policy? Or it never existed?

My guess is it never existed being that it states right in the contract that DVC ownership doesn't entitle you to FL residency. I've been a member much longer than I've been a Floridian and was never entitled to the discounts until I actually moved here to FL. Sorry

I do not think owning DVC ever qualified anyone to receive Florida resident discounts from Disney. We bought in 1999 and that wording was in the documents that we signed.

As mentioned, the paperwork we signed specifically states that owning DVC will not qualify you to receive Flordia resident discounts from Disney. It doesn't even matter if the State of Florida considers you a resident (but they don't). Disney decided that they were not going to give Florida resident discounts to DVC owners and the paperwork we signed is very clear about it and they can do that. We may not like it, but that's the way it is.

Perhaps owning another timeshare could qualify you. However, I think even that is now problematic. Look at the documentation you must provide to qualify - there is no mention of leases or purchase contracts. You pretty much need to have a valid picture ID from the state of Florida, the military or a Florida college that shows a Florida address.

No but I did ask my guide if we were eligible for FL residient discounts and was told no. So we didn't pursue it any further once my guide gave us that answer. This was yrs ago when we bought into DVC and lived in N.J.

It was determined just after publication when this hit the shelves that it was an error. Unfortunately, the misprint was not caught until afterwards.

There are many things in the guidebook that are no longer correct.
