Is it true? Now the ceiling fans are going away?

I can understand both sides to this. However, for me ... personally, I'm happy to see them go. We just returned from Vero. First night there the fan just clicked clicked clicked all night long. I turned it off in the bedroom for the remainder of the vacation and the temp/comfort in the room was still fine.

I like the fan, we have the option if they are still in the units to use them or not. I would rather have the fan on, and not use the a/c as much.
I realize DVD has no motive to keep the cost down as they take 12.5% off the total cost of upkeep. So by increasing the cost of electric, they make more to put in their pockets.

I'm a little confused.....so you're happy to not look at the fan now? Because it doesn't have to be turned on if you don't like them..... The issue is that DVC isn't providing them as an option anymore it seems.

That's me - I don't like that breeze but I don't care that they are there because I know lots of people who like to have that breeze and have family members that must have that breeze. I'd rather have them there even though I rarely use them (only during the day) but I want my family to be comfortable if it's something they want or need.

Point is very well taken re comfort of others. But I did say, for me personally it makes no difference if they stay or go. If you speak for everyone, you'll obviously have many opinions which is why I also said I understand both sides to this. Looking at the fan neither makes me happy or unhappy. Listening to the noise it makes does make me unhappy. And yes, as I also said, I turned it off after night one.

My understanding is that the heat and air conditioning have motion sensors. If there isn't any motion in the room they shut off. Do the fans have motion sensors? If not than that may be the reason they are removing the fans because they are left on 24/7. Just a guess.

I believe they stopped using the sensors on the thermostats. Probably too much time for the maintenance people to come and do overrides - I know I learned how to override because it would get stifling during the night - it was a really stupid idea. It also tends to take more energy to cool a warm room that to maintain a temp - at least according to everything I've every read.

However - fans take no where near the energy as air conditioning.

::yes::

Sometimes function needs to outweigh design trends. I personally am not a fan of ceiling fans but even I have never walked into a room and thought I needed to leave because having them was just too atrocious to my eye. And I have a couple of family members who pretty much need them or really can't sleep.

There are definitely no ceiling fans at BCV. From last week's experience, they are in the 1 bedrooms of BWV & Kidani.
The 1 bedroom at BLT had no ceiling fans at all. I usually don't use the fans unless I travel with adult DD who loves the room in the blast furnace category. Thank goodness for the fans last week. I died at BLT.

BCV definitely doesn't have ceiling fans anymore. Our Tri-Split Stay last week had ceiling fans in BWV one-bedroom and Kidani one-bedroom. There were no ceiling fans in BLT at all. I usually do not need and DH doesn't care for wind blowing on him but when I travel with adult DD (last week), she jacks up the heat to blast furnace category. I almost died at BLT.

There should be fans for those who want/need them.

I AM SO SORRY THIS WAS DUPLICATED. TECHNOLOGY HATES ME.

DH is not a fan of ceiling fans (and probably has swayed me as well). He has always felt concern with respect to who knows who installed this and is it properly done (I don't think that way but after many years of living with him, I get it). He always feels like it could fall and hurt somebody. Well lo and behold our dear friend worked at DVC down in the parks in a kiosk, several years ago a ceiling fan came undone and injured his shoulder severely. So perhaps DH is probably right again and there are liability issues in keeping them.

Honestly, if Disney can not install and maintain a ceiling fan in the guests rooms in the resorts, then Disney has FAR bigger problems then trying to keep us happy.

We find the ceiling fan useful for cooling off quickly when returning from the parks. A few minutes makes a big difference in comfort.

Ugh this continues to annoy me. When I stayed at BLT I was surprised there was no ceiling fan and I hated it!! In fact since that visit I travel with a fan everywhere I travel.

Especially Florida so hot and moving air is very helpful!
Love my Dvc but really....
