My friend sent me a link Sleep-Tite Bed Bug Spray. It is a bed bug eliminator spray. She thinks that I should use it on our vacation. I do not want to bring home anything but good memories from WDW but it sounds like a scam. It claims to kill bed bugs. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Nothing you can buy has found to be effective, though it may make you feel better. This sounds like someone capitalizing on the bedbugs fear.If it were that simple, it would not cost the hundreds to thousands it costs to have them eliminated .ALso, I do NOT recommend spraying anything on Disney mattresses,It may make you feel better, but the next person occupying that room may not appreciate it as much, especiially if they have asthma,or allergies.

DH has been in the pest control company for 15 years...he runs a business. Basically, he said that the spray won't do the job. When he sends his service professionals out to treat a hotel room, it can take up to 3-4 hours using an insecticide. Unfortunately, Disney, nor any upscale hotel, is immune to the bed bug. It's a growing problem across the United States. He always checks out our hotel room before we unpack our belongings....thank goodness!

I would not use over the counter chemicals. Don't think they work anyways.

Your best bet is take a roll of Duck Tape and check your whole room before you bring anything into the room.

I also pack everything in large zip lock bags then put them into my luggage. I do not open them until needed. Bed Bugs can be everywhere even on planes.

Like everything else there are people trying to get rich at the cost of others, selling things that don't work. Read up on bed bugs and learn how to spot them and what to do if you find them.

I would not use it.

Even if it did (or didn't) work I would be afraid of the potential chemicals in it. It may affect you or a family member worse than it does bed bugs. :scared1: Plus I have not heard of any problems at WDW. And if there were; they would take care of it with something experts consider safe for humans.

From Amazon -

Bed bugs are back - just ask Congress?they are proposing a new Bill called, "Don?t Let the Bed Bugs Bite" (HR 2248) and Fairy Tales is there to help! Just released Sleep-Tite is a minimal risk pesticide (EPA exempt) that kills bed bugs and destroys their eggs. Safe and effective to help keep your home, hotel room, apartment, college dorm and camp bunk bed bug free! What are bed bugs? Where do I find them? And how do I get rid of them? Bed Bugs are small flat insects that feed on animals and human blood.
They have been around for centuries but are making a comeback due to the fact that many strong pesticides have been banned for use. Bed bugs like the dark, they feed at night, they crawl, not fly. And, they don't just like beds; they will live in any dark area that is near their food source. That includes furniture, tears in wallpaper, closets, baseboards, tufts and seams of mattresses - they can be anywhere! The bugs themselves are difficult to spot but look for signs including brown specs - this is dried blood or fecal matter.
Also check for dried bug shells - this is from the molting process (the shedding and replacing the exoskeleton stage). In the past, getting rid of bed bugs required the use of strong pesticides. Now, Fairy Tales Sleep-Tite has developed the first ever dedicated bed bug spray been proven effective without toxic chemicals. It kills bugs on contact and kills their eggs as well.
One Spray is 97% effective in killing a live bug in seconds.Fairy Tales Sleep-Tite is perfect for home use and can be taken on vacations, as well. Use Sleep-Tite in your hotel room, camp bunk and dorm room - Spray furniture, bedding and mattress nightly. Also, spray luggage before you leave - don?t take home any unwanted mementoes!

My thoughts - if it's that good, why isn't the entire bed bug problem over with right now? Why is it that chemicals from pest control companies are the only way this problem has been controlled up until now?

Um, I wouldn't spend the $25 for this stuff. Your chances of getting bed bugs at a Disney resort are really, really, really small. And if you do see one, inform Disney immediately and they will take care of everything. For free.

If a chemical is strong enough to kill bed bugs, it's not something I want to sleep on, no matter what the manufacturer says.

Ignorance here....what is the best way to check for bed bugs? What do you do with duct tape?:eek:

Bed bugs like to hide right along mattress seams. Easiest way to check for them is to pull up the sheets along the side of the mattress, stick something sticky against the crease, and see what comes up. What you're looking for (and hoping you don't see!) is a bunch of little brown dots. If it's a bad enough infestation, you may be able to see it on the mattress without doing the adhesive check.

Googling "bedbug check" will bring up a lot of good tips but is not for the bug-phobic or faint of heart...lots of pics...

I found this product on drugstore.com, which lists the ingredients. It's a 1.5% solution of sodium lauryl sulfate, which is a surfactant found in many soap products - shampoos, liquid soaps, that sort of thing. It's used to enhance lather production.

But for killing bedbugs? Nope. If it's OK to put in baby shampoo, I don't think it'll do much harm to bedbugs.

The product info on their site is a hoot. They go on and on about how non-toxic it is. But it's supposed to kill bugs so tough that infestations often require multiple treatments of heavy-duty pesticides by professional exterminators.

Save your money. :)

After reading of others' concerns here for bed bugs at Disney, I made a point of checking the mattresses in our room when we arrived. Seams clean. This was our 8th stay at POR--we've never run into a problem. But, all it takes is the people staying prior to you to bring 'em in.
