Is it too late to rent points from someone for Thanksgiving at a WDW DVC resort for a studio or 1 bedroom unit? How far in advance are Thanksgiving ressies normally made?

you can try on the DVC rental/trade board -

reservations for holiday periods are generally made 11 months in advance. So this December make the reservation for next Thanksgiving.

some DVC members made the reservations but are unable to use them and for some reason don't want to cancel the reservations - so you might get lucky!:D

I think you should try, too. The 7 month window opens for the week of Thanksgiving in about 2 weeks, so don't dawdle. Until the 7 month window opens, only owners of the resort can make ressies there. I don't think all of the DVC resorts are sold out for Thanksgiving yet, so IMHO, you have a good chance. Someone with points to be rented will be happy to check availability for you. If you are serious about renting for Thanksgiving, post on the Rent/Trade Forum as soon as you can! Good luck!

I got ressies this same time last year for OKW after we had just closed on our resale. As said before try and do it before the 7 month window.

Thanks everyone. I will talk with my DH tonight. The only thing I was shocked about though (having never really travelled over Thanksgiving via air) is how high the airline price is. Normally we pay around $200 from Philly to MCO. Now it seems the price over Thanksgiving is $500 per person! So for our family of 4 it is $2000 just to fly to Orlando! Yikes.

kpgclark: Have you thought about flying into Tampa? That is what we did this past Thanksgivng and airfare was 1/2 what it was to fly into Orlando. Good luck! :D

I'll check into Tampa. Thanks for the tip. How did you get to WDW? How long did it take?

We rented a car. It seems like it was about an hour and 15 minutes. It was not bad at all. I have noticed a lot of people on the Transportation boards who have flown into Tampa if you want to do a search. The car rentals for that period of time were not overpriced. I reserved early though probably late April or early May.

I don't know where in PA your are from, but you could fly out of Atlantic City using Spirit airlines. I just checked dates around thanksgiving and you could fly for a little as $230/person depending on dates and times. We flew Spirit in Dec. and had a very positive experience. The airport is small and parking is cheap. The drive from Philadelphia to Atlantic City is very easy and reasonable time, definitely worth saving that much money.

Thanks. I checked Spirit yesterday and you pretty much have to fly out on Sunday or Monday and back on Friday. We really wanted to spend a week in Orlando. I have a friend who is flying Spirit over Thanksgiving and she has flown out of AC before and she had told me about the airport.

Last year we flew from BWI (we live in MD) on SW. We were able to save over $300 by flying to Orlando Friday night instead of Sat. morning. We got a cheap rate at PO for one night and then moved to the BCV Sat. morning. We flew home Friday to avoid the Thanksgiving crowds.

I have been on a few flights out of BWI with people from Philly so this might work.
