Is it too hot to go in the summer?

I look at it this way. It's not going to be any hotter or more humid than summer in New York City, and New York City doesn't have water attractions, unless someone breaks a fire hydrant.

That is funny but I have to disagree. I live in Chicago and yes we have lots of heat and humidity in the summer but the difference is it's not the whole summer! I mean we will have really bad days but then the temps will go back down again for a few, which is a nice break. It's also not usually 90 degrees at 9 in the morning:scared1: I think the weather in FL in pretty much hot and humid all the time in the summer. That being said we are considering it ourselves this year, so we'll see.

New York was hot and humid all summer last summer. It was the hottest summer in NYC history.

As someone who lives in NY and spends a lot of time in Florida in all seasons, I can tell you -- it ain't even close. NY can get plenty hot and humid, but Florida is an absolute furnace -- the moment the plane door opens, it's like when you open a hot oven and feel the blast of heat.

And it's relentless.

I have been many times in the summer and just got back from a trip when Orlando had record breaking cold. I guess I am weird...give me the heat any day over that 30 degree wind whipping me in the face. I hate cold weather. I have always enjoyed our summer trips...getting up early, hitting the parks until lunch time, heading back to resort to rest and swim, and heading back out for the late park hours. The pools and water parks are so refreshing in the heat. I found no relief from the cold except sitting in the hotel room. I am from Indiana and know how to dress for the cold and still was miserable. Not fun. Of course, I would prefer 70 degree weather over 90 degree..most people would. But I have never had a bad trip in the summer no matter how hot! Guess I just like the heat! :thumbsup2 It is very possible to have a great summer trip no matter what others say. :goodvibes

This will be our 2nd trip in June. I can handle the humity and heat but I have a hard time with the rain. It can rain for hours. Our last trip during June 2009 it rained quite a bit that it interrupted a few plans like swimming at Stormalong Bay in the afternoon as lightening threatened the area and they shut down. Also, once we were at the water park it started raining around 1 pm or so and they shut down the slides. They did open about 45 minutes later and we did stay so, it was nice to go down the slides with no wait but then, it started raining again about 45 minutes later.

We tour the parks at rope drop and then, leave in the afternoon and return in the evening. Or we'll sleep in and do the parades in the afternoon and dinnner in the park and hang out at the park in evening. With the parks opened later you can definitely plan around it.

We are kinda stuck on when we can travel for another 8 years so, we just make the best of it. I'm from California and it gets very hot where we live in the summers up to 105 degrees during the day. But it is a dry heat so, I love the humity. It feels so much nicer on my skin but that's me.

Good luck.

Our first trip with our kids then 2 and 5 was in August of 2008 during Tropical Storm Fey... it literally didn't stop raining for 6 days... NO SUN.... we were so wet ! We had to buy sweatshirts to keep warm in the A/C !!! LOL....

I think it's what you make of it. Our first visit was right after 4th of July and yes, it was hot but it wasn't too bad. We used TourGuide Mike and that helped but there are other plans too.

We are insane enough to do it again this upcoming July.

I really didn't think it was any hotter in Florida than it had been in Illinois at times during the summer. It did rain more though but that is to be expected (just the afternoon showers and then all was well). Somehow we always managed to be indoors during that except once.

I don't have time to look up the numbers, but I would bet NYC had more 90+ days than Orlando last year.

The point is that living in a hot humid environment is different. It's hot and humid in the midwest. But I don't go hang out on pavement outdoors all day.

Point taken. However, many, many attractions at WDW are indoors, and there are two water parks, and plenty of water-based attractions.

That's good to know. We'll be in Disney in July, with 4 kids, one of them is 2yrs, 10 months and the other will be 3 months. I'm planning on bringing them back to the hotel for naps, but its good to know its not going to be worse than new york.

days in the 90s are one thing...days when the heat index is 115 is another. We were there during a record breaking heat wave in June '09...ay yi yi, my butt had melted off my body by 9am. I live in the hot humid south and that was the most painfully miserable heat I've ever felt!

We always left the parks around 1-2 pm cause we were dying and returned around dinner time. You were still sweating in the dark at 10pm though.

Some parks are harder than others. AK is like standing on the surface of the sun.

Take lots of breaks in stores or indoor attractions, keep up the fluids and salty snacks and wear a hat. It makes all the difference.

We've gone the last two Julys and we go Commando without breaks - it's fine. Go.

We did last week of June into the 1st week of July on our 1st trip to WDW back in 2002.

Our best tip is to have an ADR in the Park or a resort near the Park for lunch.

We did early entry into Mk and did a 10:45 AM breakfast at Crystal Palace.
It was so nice to have A/C and sit down for a meal.
Plus we did some breakfast and then lunch when they changed the buffet:goodvibes

We also did EPCOT - lunch at Coral Reef at noon.
The waiting area is so nice to sit in, cool blues and A/C, plus the bathrooms are very clean.:thumbsup2

Please make ADR's for a late breakfast or a lunch.
You will be so happy :woohoo:you did, and you will see famlies turned way from restuarants, who will be annoyed because they do not have an ADR and are hot and tired. :sad1:

Personally I prefer hot over cold any day. I hate walking around disneyworld with a sweater and a parka on. uggg.

We love going in August, yep it's africa hot but with the extra long park hours it's easy to chill out at the pool during the heat of the day and hit the parks during the early day and the evening.

lastly, Philly is blistering hot in July also. so either way, I'm hot in July. might as well be on vacation.

Or, you know, just bring a bottle of cold water to the park and deal with it. If you're in Walt Disney World, there's no need to sit at the pool all day. It defeats the purpose.
