Is it too early to purchase airfare for Dec?

I am taking my two DDs (5 and 8) to SSR in December for a long weekend (DH is out of vacation time). I found the perfect flights, but it seems early to purchase for December. For those of you traveling in December (the early part), do you think it's too soon to purchase, or should I wait to see if there are better deals that come? BTW, we usually drive.

We've already booked our December airfare and were able to do so when the airlines released the seats 11 months before the flight.

I usually wait until Southwest airlines is booking for the dates that I am flying because most airlines will attempt to match their fares. Currently, I believe Southwest is booking through August. It really depends on what kind of fares you are seeing right now. Also, if your dates and times are not flexible at all, you may not be able to take advantage of specials that are announced later on. Typically, you will see lower fares available for flying on Tues., Wed., Thurs., and Sat. Hope this helps.

Thanks! We are trying to make the most of the long weekend, so we want to leave early Saturday and come home Wednesday afternoon. I found a fare for around $200 which I think is reasonable. Southwest doesn't fly from a close airport.

Usually we buy our flights for December by this time. There is a slight chance that we will be adding a day, so we haven't done that. Once we find what we consider "reasonable" airfare, we book and don't look back!

Yep, we booked our December trip a couple of weeks ago - figured the price would only go up - since we're leaving Orlando on 12/23 back home - Christmas weekend, etc. Jumped at the $215 pp price from NorthWest

We always buy our tickets as soon as they're available for purchase. I fly out of DFW and American Airlines prices do nothing but go up.

I have our tickets to Orlando for Dec 2-11 already bought, also. I got them when there was an airline sale in February.

If I was going to be flying down on Delta I would have already gotten my ticket, but I'm waiting for JetBlue to open up that time frame. As soon as they do, I'll book my flight.

I just booked my December flights also US Air. Price is pretty much same for us no matter what month as lomg as I book 3 months out.

I've just booked for my Sept trip and booked US Air at $225.00. I've seen airfare do nothing but increase the last few months and we're not close to a Southwest airport so I went ahead and booked. I may regret it later but I can live with $225.00 direct flights.

We are in NJ and always fly Continental. They are never lower than the day that they are published. Unless you fly midweek. There may be a lower fare, but it's a long shot!

Just booked our Dec. airfare this week. We would have to drive 3 hours to get to a big enough airport for Southwest, etc. and that doesn't appeal to us. Our small airport usually doesn't even offer a nonstop flight, but just added one, so I took it. $202.

We drove for our first trip in 2004. Planned to drive for our 2005 trip too, then high gas prices convinced us to fly. We were lucky to even get seats 3 weeks before our trip, paid $248, and it wasn't non-stop. It was still worth it, considering the gas, motel, extra food, & extra days. It was our first time flying anywhere, and we've decided that we won't be driving to wdw again. :)
