way back I remember you had to call the airlines 24 hrs before your flight to confirm you would on the flight

the airlines could also tell you if theres been any chances

I still do that but the last time we flew this is in MAy the girl oh yes we already have you checked in

but not too long along myDH cousin didnt confirm and they missed there flight since it was bumped up an hour and they had to pay alot to get on another flight

of course there could be a piece missing here but

do any of you confirm with the airline 24 hr before flight

I usualy do SW with EBCI--expect for MAy we were on British air and going over seas so I wasnt taking any chances on that one

thanks all

I regularly check my reservations after I buy my ticket right up to departure. You can't count on the airline to tell you about changes. Other than that do online check in within 24 hours of your flight and that's about it.

Ditto. I've had flight times change post ticket purchase.

I simply track it all online/app. I don't see many 'less than 24 hr' changes anymore.

I check reservations online regularly to watch for time changes and plane changes (the latter will change seat assignments).

Then at 24 hours out (not necessary AT 24 hours like on SW but I do it anyway) I'm checkin in online, which gets me boarding passes and possibilities of upgrades (depending on the airline and if I'm using DH's miles or if he's traveling with us), and lets them know we are planning to be there.

That cousin story. They should not have been charged. Airlines have leeway and to miss it by an hour should see that leeway kick in. DH once missed a flight by 24 hours (long story and the full situation was the shared fault of DH, the work TA, and me) and they still worked with him at no extra cost.

Are you not checking in online at 24 hours? But, yes, reservations should be monitored.

I simply track it all online/app.

Excellent point, here. I highly recommend getting and using the app if your airline has one, and most do nowadays. Considering what air travel costs, even switching to or getting a phone that will run the app would be worthwhile to me.

thanks for all the tips--whenever we go on SW I always get the EBCI so SW will check us in at 36 hrs and I just go on within 24 hrs to print boarding passes

and Im watching our flights for any changes--but I was just wondering if its still necessary to call then 24 hrs before

Not to long ago I panicked for some dumb reason I forgot to call the night before and called the morning we were leaving --there was no issues but I panicked

no need to call. Since you have internet access, you can always go to southwest.com to check in (won't affect EBCI) to make sure everything is a-go. Plus you can see what you location for boarding is

I just check online, plus the day of the flight I choose the option to text any changes to my cell phone.

I remember the days of having to call. I didn't fly much back then though. Now I just keep an eye on the flight changes through the apps or the airlines website.

I frequently check my reservation. For example, I flew PIT-LAX in August to Disneyland on USAirways. When I got the ticket the September before (I was using miles), it departed around 8:30, arriving in LA around 11:30. My friend booked her flight from another city to arrive around 1:00pm. Then my flight was changed to depart at 10:00, arrive 1:00, perfect to meet my friend. Then a couple months before, they changed it to depart at 6:30am, arrive 9:30am. Ugh! It was the only non-stop, so there were no other options. Luckily, my friend's flight changed and she got one that arrived around 10:30. They never emailed me about the flight change until about 30 days before.

I typically setup a notification for same day delays, most airlines have them.

Even for international flights they print "reconfirm 3 days ahead" on the itineraries but I asked and they only want you to check online for any schedule changes. Always give then a good phone number. If there is a major change they often call.

YES.. flights can change and your departure time could change, flights get cancelled - We had this happen on Frontier in Jan. A week before our trip, our return flight was cancelled with no notice to us. Thankfully I had checked before we left.
. We flew home this week and saw 3-4 flights that were scheduled to depart 30 minute early. So it is best to always check your flight.
