is it safe to fly

hi a friend of mine is going to wdw in september she was to go in july but she is pregnant and due end of august if everything goes ok she will have given birth 2-3 weeks before she flys and she would like to know if it would be safe for her to fly

I think there is a period of time postpartum you are not meant to fly for.

Is this for a transatlantic flight?

Just one question though - what if the baby is a week or two late?!!

ETA She should check with her doctor / midwife / consultant!

it will be a 9 hr flight she hopes it will not be late

Wow, can she not rebook? Only my opinion but a 9 hour flight within a week or two of childbirth seems a bit ambitious to me. Is she planning on taking baby too? As I'm sure they have to be a certain age (don't know what off the top of my head but it's at least a few months) before they can fly.

Mothers who have given birth in the last 48 hours are also not allowed to fly, says Tony Cane, a spokesman for British Airways (BA) - recently voted the most parent-friendly airline by the children's charity Tommy's.

'Likewise we will not take a new mother who has had a Caesarean section until at least 10 days after the birth.'

Airline officials explain that the reasons for the rules are that medical risks, such as haemorrhage, blood clots or the baby getting into breathing difficulties are just too high

Even though it is "allowed" after a few days, it really isn't a good idea to take such a young baby on an aircraft unless essential and no holiday can be considered that. The air pressue would cause the baby great discomfort and also the risks of picking up an infection from the recycled air would compromise such a young baby. Every one has to do their own thing but I would never do it that early.
