Is it possible to trade reservations with someone?

Hi All-

Long story short, my mother passed away over the weekend and now we want to take my father with us. We need him to be at the same resort as us. We have explored every option possible(we think). We have a 1 BR (it's already my family of 4 and my in-laws). There are rooms available at another resort that we could put him in but no DVC rooms available using our points for the rest of us to change resorts.

Are you allowed to trade reservations with someone else? Or do you have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance

I'm sorry to hear the bad news, and I hope things work out for you.

The logistics for an actual swap may be difficult for MS to do, since they would need both parties on the line at the same time to release the first reservation, have the other party get that slot (before someone else on the phone at that time or the computer for wait list), then make the remaining resrvation.

That said, if you found someone to swap and MS gives you grief, you could change the names on your existing reservation to add the other people and drop your names (as if you made the reservation for a renter or family member), while the other party did the same. The downside to this is you won't control your reservation (the other party would and vesa versa).

I've never tried either, though so good luck. Is there a 2BR available at this time at another resort, so you can add your dad?

On a side note, how many people do you currently have in the 1BR at BCV; six? Just curious if this busts max occupancy.

You can offer a trade on our Rent/Trade Board, but you will only be changing the names on the reservations. MS won't let you just trade reservations - since it would involve a cancellation and rebooking and would only happen if there is availability for both resorts when you call.

At this point I would not hold ut much hope finding someone to trade, but it's worth a try.

thanks for the response. only cash reservations are available...nothing on points. there r 2BR's at SSR and OKW for cash. I don't really want to cram in the 1BR. There are 4 adults, 1 kid & 1 infant already in the 1BR at BCV. how would i word it on the Rent/Trade Board? The odds of me finding someone is probably slim to none, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Sorry to hear about your loss. We have something like this, but it was done well ahead of time, and we both made specific reservations for what the other person wanted (we traded our BCV for their HHI). We've actually done this three times, and it worked out great each time. Your logistics might be a little harder, because you have to find someone who already has the exact same reservation for the resort you want, and wants your resort. Could you just upgrade villa size?

You would need to use "Trade Wanted" as your title and then explain what you have and what you want. It can't hurt to try. It might be a better plan for this trip pay cash for a 2BR.

Sorry to hear about your loss. When are you going that all 2 bedrooms are gone?

There are some great discounts on studios right now, and even better if you have an Annual Pass.

If you could get a studio on cash, you might get lucky and get them connected by a lock out which would give you a 2 bedroom.

Thanks to everyone on here for their condolences. It was a tough 2 year battle with lung cancer.


We are going Oct 14-23 and i have called numerous times and there are NO DVC rooms available anywhere of any kind other than paying cash for them. I'm thinking to just bank the points this year and pay for 3 rooms. Not what I want to do but i think it's the only option at this point.

Forgot to respond to your suggestion. The only 2BR's available for cash are OKW and SSR so the price of getting 3 rooms at a moderate is within $100 of the 2BRs at OKW and SSR. I figure everyone would be more comfortable with their own room and no one would have to sleep on the pull-out

You need to make sure you are within the booking window. Why not pay cash for a studio for your inlaws and older child and have your dad stay with you?
