I have a dentist appointment in 2 hours, at which I will need novicaine. I have a screaming headache now and was about to take 2 extra-strength tylenols before this guy at work told me to hold off. Is it safe to take tylenol before getting novicaine? I'd rather not die on the dentist chair, but this headache is really bothering me.

TIA!

Taking tylenol shouldn't have any adverse affect on the numbing agent used at your dentist's office.

Hi!

I'm a dental hygienist in a dental office - and you will be fine if you take two tylenol. The only type of OTC medicine that you should not take before a dental appointment is aspirin or any medicine that contains aspirin. Aspirin causes your clotting factor to go down - thus you bleed too much and bleeding can be hard to control.
