I think you're right. It wasn't so much Andrew that divorced her, it was the RF. "We were not amused" by the public revelations of her adulterous relationships with two different wealthy Americans. Because, hey, we all know adultery is never tolerated in RF, right? And while I have very little to say about Meghan Markel, if she thinks her treatment by the British press was vicious, something like this might provide a bit of perspective:

Didn't Sarah Ferguson have Andrew's initials embroidered in her gown or something similar? I should probably just google, but her wedding dress is one of my favorites. Her bridal look was top notch. I love how she had the flowers in her hair on the way in and the tiara on her way out.

They had a A-S monogram created that was embroidered on her train, but it was pretty large. The little "secret" item was that there were waves and anchors hidden in the beading pattern, which of course was a nod to Andrew's naval career. I didn't really care for the oversize bows that were so popular at the time, but I will say that that dress was exquisitely fitted; it was one of the most figure-flattering wedding gowns I have ever seen.

They said they didn't discuss any of the questions before the interview and that any question could be asked. But it really was very one sided, as if they had actually determined what the outcome should be. It reminds me of how people talked about her interviews with Tom Cruise ie. she didn't really ask him questions the way that somebody like Barbara Walters would. She liked him so she made him look good.

Barbara Walters would have eaten them alive. Oprah is more of a platform provider than an interviewer.

Barbara Walters wouldn't have even known who she was interviewing. She really slipped in her last few years on tv.

Meghan’s wedding dress in her wedding to Trevor Engelson in September, 2011, resembled the gown that Kate had worn to her wedding reception in April, 2011.

Because it’s a common style in wedding dresses. As somebody else pointed out, it’s really only the belt that is similar. And that they’re white. The cut & material are nothing alike.

This is an accurate observation. From a dressmaking standpoint they are very different gowns. (And Kate's is by FAR the better-made and better-fitted, which is only logical given their financial circumstances at the time.)

FWIW, replicas of royal wedding gowns are such hot items in the bridal marketplace that a pattern is usually being drafted even before the ceremony begins. Manufacturers put designers and patternmakers on standby and they watch TV and sketch in real time, and buy enlarged photos taken as soon as the bride is photographed leaving for the ceremony. Large stores in major markets usually get the sample gown in less than a week. Meghan Markle's gown, because of the lack of embroidered layers, was even faster; the first high-quality copy was completed about 48 hours from the moment she was first seen in it. (By high-quality I mean cut with the same seam lines, and made of comparable fabric. The Chinese mass-market factories are faster yet; often shipping knockoffs in less than a day, but they usually are made out of polyester taffeta or costume satin with no proper linings, and bear only a general resemblance to the genuine article.)

(Personally I have never seen a wedding dress with that type of waist before. ) It also speaks to someone (who denies previously knowing anything about the RF) appearing to emulate Kate, like thousands of others probably did, also, for those who can see the big picture. (People go as far as getting nose jobs to look like Kate for Pete’s sake, copying a wedding dress style isn’t nearly as much of a stretch.) Right? And during that era it was practically impossible to find a gown that wasn’t strapless. I’m in the “no way are these two dresses alike” camp.
