Is it okay to put family first? (Response to royal family stuff)

PS: Karin1984: Prince Charles's airline piloting came to a premature end, when the HS146 he was landing landed rather roughly; an investigation "found" that the regular pilot was to blame but shortly afterwards it was announced that Prince Charles would no longer be flying airliners.

In her book, Kate: The Future Queen, royal expert and biographer Katie Nicholl reveals that Jessica Hay, one of Kate's old dorm mates from her time away at boarding school outed her for having a big, fat Tiger Beat-y crush on her future husband back in the day. Nicholl wrote:

This story, naturally, got back to Kate, who officially denied it during her first interview as a future royal. Nicholl explains in her book that Kate didn't even join the other Will superfans on campus in trying to sneak an IRL peek at the royal when his school visited Marlborough for various events.

"Kate laughed off the story in her first-ever interview years later: 'No, I had the Levi's guy on my wall, not a picture of William.' Indeed, when William came to Marlborough for interschool events, Kate was more interested in playing hockey than waiting at the goal line on the hockey field above Wedgewood, where some of the girls congregated to gawp at the prince. Others would gather outside Mill Mead, where the buses parked, so they could chase after the boys as they drove off. But not Kate."
For the record, Will takes Jessica's side in this she-said/she-said debate. From their engagement interview:

William: She had 10 or 20 pictures of me up on her wall at university.

Kate: No, it was the Levi’s guy on my wall, not a picture of William. Sorry!

William: It was me in Levi’s.

:lmao:

My sister had pictures of Paul Newman and Robert Redford on her wall.

I had David Cassidy. DD had the boys from One Direction.

I wonder how many of the “superfan” youth in the UK had posters of the princes on their walls?

Robert Redford? how about Max von Sydow, who played Redford's opponent Joubert in Three Days of the Condor....

(There are more real live Jouberts around than ppl realize....)

Luckily we have Google. And I dont think any of these names are on the bookies list :p

Boswell, Hartwell, Maxwell, Oswell, Rockwell, Samwell, Wellington.
Ok if their new baby is a boy, I'm going for Maxwell!

Those names all sound like boys names to me? Although I guess they could be really "out there" and choose any of those names for a girl or boy.

Maybe if its a girl it could be Anna after the Black Beauty author Anna Sewell - too much of a tenuous link? :P

mamamia2005: BTW, if you ever go to England, in Great Yarmouth there is Anna Sewell's house; it's a museum.

I am British and live in England. That's how I knew about Milton Keynes when you said about it the other day!

I've visited Great Yarmouth a few times, but never knew about that, thankyou. My daughter is a big Black Beauty fan, so maybe we will take a trip there. :)

Oh okay!! :)

The museum is by St Nicholas's Churchyard...

My first thought was Jughead. Betty Veronica for a girl. 😉

Until, I think, about 4 years ago William was a helicopter pilot for Air Ambulance. (He has also has a university degree.)

How many others had posters of teenage crushes on their walls? I doubt back then Catherine expected ever to meet him, or go to the same university, or become friends with him, or date him, let alone be married to him with 3 kids well over a decade later. I don't think a poster or a teenage crush is evidence of anything sinister.

As mentioned earlier, Zara and Peter (Anne's offspring) are good examples of how it's possible to live a much more private life. :thumbsup2

I know they didn't start with the same level of fame (though Zara is an Olympic medallist and her husband Mike played international rugby, for England, so not completely out of the spotlight and still not) , but Harry's spotlight wasn't anything like it has become and it didn't have to go this way. He has played a part in creating all this.

........If I put on my completely UNprofessional (disclaimer!) therapist hat, I wonder if he's subconsciously creating a situation like Diana's in order to fix now what he couldn't fix as a powerless, heartbroken kid. :sad1: II imagine that's something most of us do to some degree.

Yes Zara and Mike Tindall get very little press coverage here in the UK. Her wedding wasn't a televised event. When they have had the children its just been almost a by - line in the news saying the baby has been born, Queen, Princess Anne delighted etc.

Ironically, as you say they probably got more coverage when they were taking part in their sports!

Well, then, they should stay clear of Hollywood; but they've moved to LA, of which Hollywood is a sort of suburb...
It's all very well for ppl seemingly to cry: "I hate publicity!" "I hate publicity!" "I hate publicity!" ....and then to hang out near Hollywood....

I don't think there's anything wrong with the choice to live in LA, particularly since I believe that's where Meghan is from. Entirely normal to decide to locate there for comfort, climate. More people live there who aren't famous than are, so it's possible to be relatively anonymous if you're mindful.

IMO Harry may well be the one behind some of the baffling choices and behavior, with Meghan maybe responding with what's comfortable and familiar to her when Harry presses for change. Maybe she prefers the So Cal climate and lifestyle. The entertainment industry is what she knows, where her experience is. It doesn't make her a monster if those are the suggestions she offers when Harry says they need to make a move, pursue something different.

As far as the difference between Kate and Meghan potentially setting out to marry a prince, Kate married her prince and has solidly fallen in line with what the job and position entail. Meghan married her prince and has spoken from both sides of her mouth about following through on what the job and position entail, eventually hitting eject and bailing altogether in conjunction with her husband. Interestingly one of the most often repeated stories about the brothers' falling out claims that it began when William cautioned Harry about moving too fast and recommending slowing down to allow Meghan the chance to take a good hard look at what joining the family and firm meant as far as lifestyle and sacrifices. Gossip says Harry was furious at William even suggesting such a thing and he felt his brother was taking a stand against Meghan. If true it seems like William was actually considering Meghan's feelings much more than Diana's needs and feelings had been taken into account when she was a naive teenager with a Prince Charles poster on her wall. At one time I saw a story that mentioned that Harry might have gotten so angry about William's caution because Harry had another girlfriend who dumped him because she had decided she didn't want the life in the gilded cage.

No doubt some of the coverage of Meghan hasn't been favorable. That's going to happen no matter what. It happens to Kate as well, and she even wound up having nude photos published, like sunbathing or something. They spoke out about that, understandably, and moved on, no doubt making sure that opportunity wouldn't happen again. I think the overreaction with Meghan is probably down largely to Harry, with Meghan taking the blame for that too. Harry has a different personality from his brother, more openly volatile. Marriage and fatherhood seem like they've brought out an especially sensitive threshold in him, maybe some of his mother's tendencies, maybe childhood traumas making themselves heard. Meanwhile the public shovels the lion's share of blame on Meghan's shoulders. Maybe she's not the best balance for him in this particular aspect, maybe they fuel the worst of each other in this area. No doubt if Harry's got a chip on his shoulder about his brother not understanding, being against Meghan, whatever, it's not helping him get a balanced, opposing viewpoint that he feels he can trust. That would be a shame.

I have no prob. with LA either! but Hollywood seems to be an environment in which that household thrives; it's no use then ppl claiming they don't like publicity...

Is Zara expecting a third child? I thought I read that somewhere.

It's where Meghan is from, I believe it's where her mother lives, maybe they like the climate and the potential lifestyle the climate offers. There are a lot of reasons they could pick the location that have nothing to do with publicity. Seeking out publicity and doing interviews, that's what flies in the face of claiming they want privacy and the press should leave them alone.

Both took different lessons from their parents marriage.
William: Take your time, get to know each other, make sure you are suited for each other.
Harry: Live life to the fullest and love with all your heart.
