Is it okay to put family first? (Response to royal family stuff)

but again, thats Royal Protocol. Being part of the Royal Family means you do whats required, even if you think its dumb, becuase thats just the way things are. Again, UK people know and understand things like this.

I do think you are over generalising. I'm British, and live in England. Now, I don't move in anywhere near royal circles, but I don't think you can state it as a known fact that ladies must wear tights. For example if a royal cousin (way way back, not even on the page of in line to the throne) started courting a young lady they knew from university I wouldn't expect her to know that tights were expected to be worn at cousin Elizabeth's garden party! But I would expect her to do some research!

The pantyhose thing is a great example of why the royal family is failing to appeal to younger generations. It’s such a petty thing to have a rule about, it’s unnecessarily stuffy, and frankly out of touch with anyone under the age of... well, I don’t want to insult anyone who still wears pantyhose. Again, I’m not that young myself but the 80s were the last time I remember pantyhose being on my radar. Are they still sold in stores, even?

Yes they are and most women I know where them when wearing dress, skirts or heels in a professional environment... I've had to take my off a few times due to a run and OMG my feet were sweaty and gross, blisters. and my legs chaffed. I find not wearing hose in this situation simply uncomfortable.

To be clear, this thread has been around for a year plus. Meghan’s issues with suicide thoughts were divulged Sunday night.
If this is reference to my comment above, I was only talking about comments made since it aired Sunday.

You say it’s a culture clash, and maybe so...

But I’m an American & would have no problem following & accepting the protocol & understand very well that sometimes ”that’s just how things are done.”

Like I wouldn’t have tried to sit in the Royal Box at Wimbledon while wearing slacks. I know there’s a protocol & certain dress code for different events & places.

Not every American is the way you’re thinking we are.

In my mind, purposely ignoring protocol on multiple occasions seems like a way of exerting control as well.

I'm an attorney and I don't wear hose to court and neither do many of my fellow women attorneys.

As well as using the excuse "I didn't know". Like I said above, if you don't know because it is not the world you are used to fair enough. But there are ways of finding these things out!
Make no mistake Meghan is an intelligent woman. It's why I can't buy into her "whoa is me" act.

I also don’t wear hose but they are not necessary when wearing the Keen sandals I wear 95 percent of the time. But I did wear them when I wore suits in a work setting for many years 1980’s on. Not particularly comfortable wearing them in the Deep South in the summer.

I thought everyone was wearing yoga pants these days.

Tights are extremely hard to find except during Halloween time since it went to jeggings, leggings, fleece leggings, etc. Pantyhose are still sold @ Target, Walmart, Kohls, etc.
Except in Europe. Very practical and I stock up! They don't have to be fancy. I hit every C & A I find. I love good tights for warmth..
Very nice with boots and dresses.

In the Netherlands it's rarely warm enough to go out without tights. Only a few days in summer. And even then I do not feel comfortable. I'm not a prude, but there is something about not giving easy access.
Plus it looks better, it makes my legs look the same flesh colour, they have a healthy sun-kissed colour, instead of my white milk bottles. And I do not have to think about shaving my legs ;-)

Now that we have discussed everyone's tight habits. What about that other pet peeve of the British press: Meghan disobeying the queen's protocol by wearing coloured nail polish!

I have noticed that our tall and thin older daughter wears dark tights with short skirts when wearing boots. But she lives in NYC and wears what I call trendy stuff.
I'm old (er) but still trendy within reason!
