I'm a newbie to trip reports, I think I did a short one years ago. But I LOVE reading others' trip reports and I'm really in Disney withdrawal...so I thought I'd give it a try. We also usually don't plan a trip so far in advance, but this one's been in the works since we got back from our last trip.

Background:
It seems like forever since I've been on a Disney trip. So let's see, let me count, um, is it 7, wait no, 6.5, oh yes 6.5 MONTHS since we've been on a Disney trip! Has it really only been 6 months? It seems like years! :rotfl:. So enough melodrama...

I went to Disneyland plenty of times growing up, but my first time at DisneyWorld was during college (15 years ago, yikes!) when I was doing a summer semester in Daytona. Did several day trips from that experience, including follow-up day trips visiting Daytona friends - back then, someone always seemed to work at Disney and could get us in for free :cool1:. Years later, DH and I considered going to WDW when we were first married, but Vegas was so much cheaper and seemed more appealing ;) back then

First Family WDW trip:
We first went as a family, completely clueless about the DIS and WDW in general, when DS #1 was 1 yo, in May 2003. Hmmm, Shades of Green was closed for renovation, bummer. Thought I was being so slick when I used priceline and scored the Hilton by Downtown Disney. Let me just tell you how un-slick I felt a few months later (having discovered the DIS) when I found out that we could've stayed at the Contemporary with an ultra super-duper special rate while Shades of Green was under renovation! Nevertheless, we all fell in love with WDW (and the Contemporary as the monorail zoomed through it) during that trip, promising that we'd stay onsite the next time we went.

Following trips:
We started to go more often, as I found excuse after excuse to go back...oh can't pass up that AP rate, oh can't pass up free dining, oh we have to use DVC points (yep became DVC members back in 2006!). Over the years, we lucked out with some Shades of Green overflow rates and AP rates, good deals here and there, DVC, etc. But really, this year we've held off on vacations because we've been trying to sell our house with no luck so far. But to explain why it seems like forever since our last trip, here is our list of trips since we first went as a family:

2003 - WDW - Hilton Downtown Disney (May)
2004 - WDW - Contemporary (May/June), WDW - All Star Movies and Contemporary (December)
2005 - WDW - All Star Movies and Polynesian (May), WDW - Pop and Contemporary (September), DL - Paradise Pier (December)
2006 - WDW - All Star Movies and Wilderness Lodge (February), WDW - Wilderness Lodge (August), DL - Marriott (December)
2007 - WDW - Old Key West (February), DL - Marriott (April), WDW - Saratoga (October), DL Grand Californian - (December)
2008 - Uh-oh, not til November??? - Animal Kingdom Lodge and Beach Club Villas

Cast:

Me: 30-something, full-time mom and worker bee, in front of a computer or on the phone all day (To quote our 6-year old: "You get paid for that?" :lmao:). Obviously obsessed with Disney planning

DH: 30-something, full-time dad and worker bee, works a job completely opposite from mine: non-desk job, month on/3 weeks off. Likes Disney, but is actually quite happy we are only going 1 time this year. Tolerates my obsession.

DS #1: 6 yo entering first grade in the Fall. Very active, very sweet. Loves DisneyWorld (but has progressed from the baby stuff to the more exciting stuff over the last 5 years), Star Wars, Ben 10, and I could continue on for pages and pages

DS #2: 2 yo toddler. Loves Mickey Mouse, The Wiggles, and The Backyardigans. 3 WDW trips so far. First trip to WDW was when he was about 8 weeks old. On our last trip, he was allergic to eggs, milk, and peanuts and WDW was awesome about the allergies. He has amazingly outgrown the allergies though and life is easier at home too.

TRIP PLANS:

November 14th through 22nd, 2008: 2 firsts for us -- we're staying at 2 resorts we've never stayed at before. Woo-hoo!

November 14th through 16th: Animal Kingdom Lodge

November 16th through 22nd: Beach Club Villas

I originally made our reservations for Villas at Wilderness Lodge, but I have to change my mind at least 50 times during trip planning, so my first change was to switch to BCV. I started thinking how cool Stormalong Bay would be (hope it is warm enough in november!) and how awesome it would be to be at an Epcot resort since we're planning on doing DxDDP and love Epcot dining options.

We also originally planned on staying at AsMo for a couple of days before our DVC stay since we've been telling DS #1 we'd go back there for a few years now. But DH really dislikes staying at the values (we usually just stayed there for a split stay when DS and I would start our vacation a few days ahead of DH), and DS #2 is obsessed with animals (even though AK is the rest of the family's LEAST favorite park), so we switched to AKL. Change #2, check.

I have dining, MVMCP plans to report on, but it is getting late and I still have stuff to do to get ready for tomorrow, so I'll leave with a couple of pictures from past trips:

Well, I don't think anyone's reading this but here goes anyway:

My Dad and Mom, and my sister and maybe her husband might come with us for part of our trip! My Dad, the same sister and her husband were with us for our October 2007 trip and it went pretty well (unlike some of our other extended family trips). Anyway, it'd be great if they came...but of course now I will have to hope for DVC availability for 1 or 2 studios (depending on who really comes), and ADR changes! I hope they figure it out soon!

Hey a reader! Pretty cool!

No updates today -- can't seem to get my family to commit one way or another. My Dad definitely wants to come but is waiting on some information that's not under his control. My Mom and sister...well, I never know whether they'll flake or not.

As of yesterday, OKW and SSR studios were available. We're at BCV and don't really want to give that up, so even if they do come, we may be at different resorts. Not ideal, but hey, we'll be at WDW :yay:

I'm joining in too! Shades of Green...Are you a military family as well???

Looking forward to more! :)

Update: Booked a studio at OKW! My Dad definitely wants to go, so it'll at least be him in there :goodvibes For now, I also put my Mom and my sister on the reservation. I did waitlist them for a studio at BCV or BWV. I'm not quite willing to give up my 1BR at BCV just yet.

But if I get a definite yes from my sister (and possibly her husband), then I will probably borrow more points if another studio is available.

Also changed up some ADRs...what a pain - but that's for another update!

Not anymore. Well, DH is medically retired, so sort of I guess. We have IDs and are still eligible for Shades of Green.

DH's birthday is during our trip. We'd never been to Coral Reef before but I saw the personalized menu and diver sign possibility in someone's trip reports. I always thought that was part of a paid package and didn't realize it was free until I read about it in the trip report! So I added a Coral Reef ADR today, called them, and left a voice mail this afternoon asking about the possibility of a personalized menu and a diver sign. Within hours I received an e-mail message (I had left my phone number and email address) saying that a diver had been requested and to email pictures for the personalized menu! I just sent the pictures, I'm so excited!

I'm reading your ptr since you came over and read mine. I hope we do get to run into each other. Jonah enjoys meeting and making new friends.

Thanks for stopping in! Maybe someone will organize a DIS meet!

Cute boys! We have sugar and spice kids too! ;)
You'll love the Beach Club - it is marvelous. I wish we could have gone back but at the six and a half for October, SSR was all they had left. I'm a bit nervous about it because we were not really OKW fans (just not our style). Animal Kingdom is beautiful too. Sending you pixie dust for your family's waitlist - don't give up your reservation just yet! Cheers,

Checking in with a bunch of changes!

Bought our plane tickets yesterday!!! Getting those tickets always makes it seem more real :cool1:

Airfare deals just aren't what they used to be. I saw non-stop flights for $325 and availability on mileage award travel also opened up yesterday, so I jumped on it. Got 1 ticket with miles, applied a $200 voucher to another ticket, and paid for the other 2. $780 including all fees, but we have 3 different confirmation numbers. It'll be a pain if anything changes with 3 different reservations, but I'm sort of hoping they do have some flight changes since that might allow us to change to a later return flight :lmao:

Does everyone obsess about these things like I do? I bet lots of Disney planners do :rotfl: I agonized too much over which flights to choose: early vs late, non-stop vs connection, etc. Anyway, the only non-stop flights were not ideal times, but I took those over the flights with connections. First time in a long time that we're flying out of WDW using a participating resort luggage check-in airline, so I'm happy about that. I love Magical Express and luggage check-in at the resort!

Our dates changed too. A couple of few weeks ago, DH and I were talking about how we hadn't spent much time at the beach in the last couple of years...so we said, oh, maybe we'll add a couple of nights at St Pete beach (we like St Pete and Sarasota beaches). I know, I know, beach in November -- but if it is too cool we'll just hang out and play in the sand. We'll be coming from Cold-orado so I think we'll just be happy to not be freezing. I pricelined a room in the St Pete beach area, wasn't expecting anything but got it on the first try. I guess I should've tried a lower bid first, but I had even checked biddingfortravel first LOL.

So at that point, the trip was planned from Nov 14th through 25th, extended from Nov 14th through 22nd. Last 3 nights are at St Pete.

Then when I bought the plane tickets yesterday, I couldn't get a Friday (Nov 14th) evening flight out, just a morning flight, and I didn't really want to take that Friday off work. So I checked Saturday morning, and it was available, so moved the outbound to Nov 15th (which happens to be DH's birthday!). Then I thought, I can't get there a day later and not extend another day too, especially since if we get home on Tuesday, I wouldn't work just the Wednesday of Thanksgiving week anyway. But there were no award flights available on the 26th (day before Thanksgiving) but lots of availability on Thanksgiving Day...so now we're going from November 15th through 27th! Tickets are paid for, so only some major event will be changing our dates.

So I changed the 11/14 to 11/16 Animal Kingdom reservation to 11/25 to 11/27, and added All-Star Movies for 1 night on 11/15. Now DS #1 gets to stay at his favorite too!

Made a car rental reservation picking up at the Dolphin from 11/22 to 11/25.

Added a few ADRs, the only one I couldn't get was Liberty Tree for dinner the night before Thanksgiving (no big surprise).

Its a wonder I got any work done yesterday with all that travel planning :lmao:

Just to recap, here's our new itinerary:
11/15 to 11/16: All-Star Movies
11/16 to 11/22: Beach Club Villas
11/22 to 11/25: St Pete Beach
11/25 to 11/27: Animal Kingdom Lodge

DH is NOT going to be happy about all the resort hopping, he doesn't quite know yet. He knows I live for this planning though so I'm sure he'll be okay ;)

Wow this was a long update! Too long considering there aren't that many readers here on the PTR board!!! :rotfl: But I'm excited and just needed to talk Disney! Only 80 days to go!

Great Pre-trip planning. I'm an obsesser too. Should have seen all the researching I did for which restaurants to try. Can't wait to read the rest.

Thanks for reading! Good to have a fellow obsess-er here :goodvibes

We postponed our trip! DH has to have his gall bladder removed, scheduled for the day before we leave. Oh well, thanks anyway to anyone that was reading...
