Is it not "cool" for middle school kids to wear winter coats?

Also have 6th grader and can't remember last time he wore a coat to school. Always wears a hoodie! When I drop him off at school, that is what a good majority of the kids have on. I think one reason is that it would be too much with the huge back pack he carries.
