Is it normal for there to be lots of room availability the first week of August

I noticed a few weeks ago that there is room availability at virtually every WDW hotel the first week of August (that's when I will be at WDW). I just checked the WDW website and Expedia and there still seems to be plenty of availability.

I usually visit at the end of April. I was there 3 months ago and most of the hotels were booked solid.

I have read that the first week of August is usually very busy, but if room availability is any indication, the first week of August seems like it will be slower than the last week of April. Is this the case or is the room availability misleading??

I am hoping the crowds will be lighter than what we saw the last week of April.

Many have switched from early Aug to late Aug, in order to take advantage of the Free Dining offer. And Many dont like the crowds, HEAT and possible huricanes.

Hopefully enough people are abandoning the first 2 weeks of Aug to get my DH and I's honeymoon room upgraded to savannah view!!

Well, here's wishing you luck and pixie dust. :wizard: :wizard: :cheer2: :cheer2: :flower1:

I'll also be there the first week of August. There are plenty of room available any resorts. This is a good sign as far as crowds go. No wonder it was sooo easy for me to get my AAA discount at the Poly and POFQ! I was just in Disney 2 days ago and it was sooo hard for me to get POFQ and I didn't get my AAA. So here's hoping for less crowds!! :flower:

We're also going the first week of August and find it odd that there are so many rooms available and yet they increased the park hours. And I'm sorry to say that since they just lifted the block out dates for Florida Seasonal Passes, you can't really rely on Disney Resort room availability for predicting crowds.
But there's always hope. At least if the resorts are less than full, there will be that many fewer people on EMH nights and mornings. pirate:

We will also be there the first week in Aug! My kids will be dancing at the MK on Aug 2nd at 11ish, so stop by if you can at the Galaxy Theatre. Dance with Marie!!

This is very true, as resort occupancy rates do not necessarily reflect park attendance.
