Is it necessary to book excursions on Castaway Cay?

In an effort to preserve funds, I'm wondering if Castaway Cay is fine to explore on one's own...and if the excursions are necessary to enjoy the stop. We have two stops in CC (Thanksgiving cruise) and I was wondering if we'd be missing out if we just played on the beach and ate!

Gosh, I don't think excursions are necessary! We were travelling this summer with 6 adults and 4 children and we had a wonderful day just enjoying the beach! As a matter of fact, we had SUCH a good time that we are considering booking the Thanksgiving cruise to get the second day at Castaway Cay! :teeth:

Don't worry about booking excursions on CC. If you get there and really see something you want to do it, you can almost always book it at that time. My DH and I usually rent the bikes and ride around the island. Inexpensive...and...it helps work off the wonderful lunch they serve there. (Not too mention all of the other food I've eaten on the ship!);)

Also...for no cost at all you can play volleyball, basketball, pool, shuffleboard, etc.

I believe I read here awhile back that parasailing is something you'd probably want a reservation for.

the only excursion you would want to book would be parasailing since i hear it fills fast.

But if you're trying to conserve funds you can have a wonderful time without either the parasailing or bananaboat rides since both are a bit pricey.

I agree that you can thoroughly enjoy CC without excursions. You can bring your own floats from the dollar store. That will save about $12 per person, and have the added advantage that you can find your float, since there are millions of those blue rafts and clear innertubes! Downside is that you have to blow up your own floats, so bring lots of hot air!

But I have to add another excursion that fills up very quickly at CC: fishing. My DH really wanted to do this on our first cruise, and it was full. We booked early on our 2nd cruise, and he really enjoyed the fishing. It is a lot of $ though.
