Is it misleading that some resort counter service locations are open 24 hours?

I know that Captain Cook's at the Polynesian and Gasparilla's Grill & Games at the Grand Floridian say they are open for 24 hours which is true since there are always Cast Members working, however is part of that a bit misleading? For example the grills at both locations close at 10:00 PM or 11:00 PM and that means the only itmes you could purchase cold food items from their fridges and once something from it is sold out they don't re-stock it until the next day. So if you are going late at night an item you want might be sold out. A few years ago when I was staying at the Contemporary their counter service location was the Food & Fun Center which means this was before the Contempo Cafe and their grill had closed at 10:00 PM, so you could only purchase cold items. Anyway since it was after 10:00 PM I decided to purchase one of their pre-made Chicken Ceasar Salads and when I got down there they were sold out and all the items in the fridge was virtually sold out, with the exception of some sandwiches that I didn't like. Anyway since Captain Cook's and Gasparilla's Grill & Games operate under the same settings as the Food & Fun Center once did, can you say it's a bit misleading saying they are open 24 hours since their grills eventually close? Personally if a location claims that then you should be able to order any items at anytime, like at a Waffle House which is open 24 hours or some McDonald's locations that are open 24 hours.

They say they're open, and they're open. I don't find that misleading despite the possible expectations of the guests.

However, if you believe it would be more helpful to have them post a sign that says something like "Open 24 hours - Some menu items may not be available after x:00 PM" then by all means suggest that to Disney.

Well, considering Disney, and other businesses, too, are trying to avoid disappointing customers, I think they should let you know the menu is limited after a certain hour.

I am a night-owl myself, and years ago, I can remember going to the Food & Fun Center craving a hamburger and fries and being sorely disappointed. I accepted it, but I remember wishing I had known. In fact, if Disney had made it clear, I would have come downstairs before 10 p.m. to order some food. They lost a sell.

That sounds misleading to me. If a place says they are open 24 hours, I would expect fresh food to be available 24 hours. If they want to limit a portion of the menu, I think it should be posted on the sign on the "open 24 hours" sign.

There is always room service that delivers hot and fresh food 24 hours a day!!!!

Exactly. So why shouldn't fresh cooked food be available in a CS establishment be available 24 hours a day when they claim to be open 24 hours?

Seems to have worked fine for years with thousands not misunderstanding nor seeming to care.

I don't think it is misleading unless the food court doesn't state "grill closes at 10 PM". If there are signs, or information stating that the grill closes at 10PM, I would think the only thing I could purchase are items in the fridge or on the shelf, like sodas or maybe some chips.

There are no signs by the grills of Captain Cook's or Gasparilla's Grill & Games which say they close at a specifc time.

As for the Food & Fun Center when they use to be open the only sign they had with a specifc time was on their lunch/dinner menu which said those items could start being sold at 11:00 AM. However they had no sign saying the grill closed at 10:00 PM, to find that out you needed to ask a Cast Member working there.

I don't think that's misleading. They say they're open, and they're open. I live near a truck stop that's 24/7 but they stop carrying their full menu after 11 pm. They're still 24/7.

I'm in the "not a big deal" camp.

But I think we saw signage at the food court at the All Star Music that had the hours up too? It was off to the side when we entered.

While I think misleading is an overstatement, I do think that if the grill is open certain hours it should be posted ~ helps to avoid miscommunication and prevents any disappointment on the part of the guests.

::yes:: I can't see that many people wanting to order something grilled at 3 or 4 AM.

:sad2:

FWIW - I am a night owl and I would love to see Disney have something open later. It's disappointing to come in late from the parks and there be nothing substantial to eat. I'm actually a bit surprised that there aren't 24 hour offerings in all of the resorts. :confused3

No: Not misleading. If you're hungry, you can get fed. Often, too much detail leads more so to confusion and glazing over than people actually internalizing all the detail you provide. Heck, this is a discussion board, where people are here to actually discuss things with each other, and often I see that happen. I can imagine how much more often additional details would prompt some people to glaze over if on a sign while they're on vacation, not really wanting to work too hard to read anything. :rotfl:

Maybe I'm just used to that kind of thing and don't find it misleading. We have grocery stores here that are 24 hr but the deli and pharmacy both limited hours of operation.

I'm not a night owl at all so it wouldn't bother to not get something hot to eat in the middle of the night!

Yes, it's actually extremely common - almost surely more prevalent than 24 hour eateries being fully operational for all 24 hours. Another example: "24 hour room service" generally doesn't mean every item on the menu is available every hour of the day.

Indeed, it is so common, that I would expect that most eateries that are fully operational 24 hours (are there really any?) would make a point of that specific fact. In other words, the expectation should be that there will be limited service overnight, unless they say others.

It is the same thing around here. There is a difference between stating that a location is open 24 hours and stating there is a full selection 24 hours.

I guess I don't begrude Disney a little down time to clean up and get organized for the next crowd. And how many people would really order a chicken dinner at 3am?

Are you certain that Gasparilla's only offers cold food after 11pm?

We returned to the GF after MNSSHP (now this was in 2008) and it was 1am and we went to Gasparilla's and got pizza - hot, fresh, made to order personal pizzas. They didn't have the "grill" items but they did serve some hot foods.
