Is it me, or is NYE less important the older you are?

I remember spending NYE 89/90 in Maui, courtesy of the company DH worked with at the time. I was so angry that DH couldn't stay awake for midnight (5 hour time difference)! Now here we are, the girls are watching tv in the basement, DS is playing legos and DH is already starting to nod off before 8:30. I don't really care at this point; the only thing I will possibly watch later is Dick Clark to see how he is doing and to catch a glimpse of WDW. But we are only 42! Last year at least we had friends over. At this rate when we're 50 we'll be napping and waiting for the kids to get home!
BTW we do go out to eat (early!) every year, and tonight at Outback DD was asking where we were last year, which was also Outback. Then she said "where were we 2 years ago?" I almost teared up! We were at Epcot eating at the San Angel! And we haven't been since! WAAAAH!
(guess since DH is off Monday it's time to go see if AAA can match the Disney.com prices for our July trip!)

Robin,

As we get older things change. I still enjoy NYE, but this year because of my trip tomorrow, it's going to be the first time I haven't stayed up until midnight. Actually I'm really not going to miss not seeing the ball drop this year.

Definitely getting less important the older I get. We had planned to spend NYE at EPCOT (just like Christmas Eve) but DH and I just couldn't get excited about going. In fact, he offered to be "on call" tonight for work so a younger guy could go out. Yep, priorities change and that's not always a bad thing. :teeth:

Well, NYE has never been that exciting to me. Occasionally I'll stay up to see the fireworks and the ball go down, but most of the time, I go to bed at my usual time. DH has been working hard at our son's new house so he will heading to be around 9 or 9:30. I think I am boring myself. LOL

Just another night to DH and I. We most definitely be in bed before midnight.

It's not really a big deal here either.

I am pretty sure neither my husband nor I will be awake to usher in the new year ;)

We will most likely be in bed before 10 like usual :) We don't stay up just to see the ball drop. Someone told me years ago to do what you want to be doing the rest of the year (at midnight) so I try and be sleeping next to DH :)

I enjoy having the day off, other than that, no big deal :)

It's not just you. We don't celebrate many holidays like we used to way back when. I had to laugh when you said "At this rate when we're 50 we'll be napping and waiting for the kids to get home!"
I turned 50 this year and that sounds about right. Napping and waiting for the kids to get home. LOL
I had a hysterectomy on Tuesday too so the whole holiday thing, Christmas and New Years just wasn't high up there on the important list.

Just about time for that nap now!! :earboy2:

I am just plum wore out this NYE. DH and I have had something to do every single weekend since November 12th! This does include a 10 day Disney trip but none the less every weekend since 11/12 has been booked. And even before that sporadically we may have had a free weekend here or there but this year we've really been on the go.

We had two invites to NYE parties tonight. We turned them both down. We had to turn one invite down repeatedly because they weren't taking no for an answer very well. After repeated reassuring that the New Year would indeed come in just fine without us there they finally let it go.

Anyway, after being up past midnight last weekend for midnight mass and then going full throttle Christmas day DH and I finally had to put our feet down and Just say NO we can't do anymore this year! We need a rest.

By the way we are 31 and 27 so don't feel old.

Yeah - we're both 52 and while we'll stay awake 'til midnight, it's just a night to stay in and eat too much! Our younger DS has worked the past 2 NYE (he's only 23) -and he and his GF are not going out! It sounds like older DS and his fiancee are not going out either! Lively bunch here!

My neighbors are having a party and we'll be staying up, whether we like it or not, due to the noise. They rented a bounce house and placed it about 50 ft. from our bedroom window. The kids have been jumping and screaming in it non-stop since 7 tonight, it should end around 2 or 3 in the morning. Have I mentioned how much I like these folks? :teeth:

Happy New Year!

Yes, NYE has gotten less important as I've gotten older. Over the years, I've done the big party thing and the small party thing. They were hit or miss. Dare I say it? NYE is overrated! (I did think it was somewhat overrated even when I was younger.)

I do like the prospect of starting a new year. And with that, I wish everyone, "Happy New Year!". :wizard:

Now, I'm going to bed. :) :teeth:

Now THAT sounds like fun!! :rotfl:
Happy New Year to you! Enjoy the laughter of the neighborhood children.....what a hoot!! :teeth:

I remeber when i party so much on NYE that slpt the whole New's Years's Day. I am only 31 and the only I will be doing is watching Dick Clark's Rockin New Year's party.

I am just not a NYE person!! We took DS with special needs to the Rainforest Cafe and my 2 older teens came too. We had a very good time, favors, balloon drop, and sparkiling cider toast!

My older guys were almost ready to call it a night when we got back (9:30), or was that wishful thinking on my part ;)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

NYE has never been a big deal for me no matter what my age. Just a quiet night at home for us and we like it that way.

Robin, I am 52 and can't believe the music at NYE this year. It is all geared toward the younger set. BTW I was at Rose & Crown at Epcot last NYE. Hard to beat that one, watching Illuminations!
