Is it May Yet? Little Buzz and baby Alien take over-Final Pictures pg 6- 5/15

I thought I would side track a bit to talk about FOOD! Now this is one of my favorite subjects. I love to cook, I love to plan healthy meals and I love to see how great my kids are at meals, non picky and well behaved :woohoo:
Through out my early planning I was really leaning towards DDP. I did some reasearch and considered how we like to tour, how much spontanaity we like and home much planned time we would want. We decided to lean away from DDP.
Once I looked at menus and thinking about eating habits on previous trips including WDW, I started to see that as much as we love great foods and sit down meals at home, on vacation we tend to change it a bit. My little ones arent big breakfast eaters, and I often skip it until mid morning snack. I also realized that DH and I can get away with sharing and adding an appetizer or soup/salad because we snack on vacation and arent as hungry at meal times.
In addition to not being as hingry, we really dont want to stop the fun just for a meal every day 3 times per day. In St Thomas in June, we were a group of 8, 4 kids and 4 adults and I dont think we planned out one meal time all week. We stopped as needed or snacked instead. We realized it was easier to entice children out of the pool with a big bowl of fruit, crackers and cheese then saying dry off, get showered and dresssed and sit for a meal.
SO this is my motivation behind my familes food choices.
Dh and I discussed character meals. We decided on 2 then went back to just one. Chef Mickeys. Ods most vivid memory from '08 was chef mickeys, he evenplays chef mickey not kitchen or cooking at home. He loved it and we were sure it was a must do.
On the second one, Ohana was my choice. I wanted Ohana for dinner on one of my Magic Kingdom days but couldnt make it work time wise. I have a determination to get to Ohana. During '08 trip, hard as I try I couldnt get Ohana. I called (pre Online ADR) and called and finally after I think 8 calls I found a spot!! So on the day we headed onto MK and the rains came I knew it wasnt in the cards. We took a midday rest back to our resort but on the way, huge accident in front of us. It was bad and we dat on the highway, hungry and wet for almost 3 hrs. By the time we made it back to Hilton, it was too late to have lunch and rest, clean up and with it still raining head back.
Ok Back to 2011- So on our Day one MK day we didnt want a stop to back track out of MK to Poly for Ohana with a later day arrival in the park. My second MK day, ADR were only available at 8:30 pm, too late for small kids.
I had already planned my day of rest for DTD but thought, no reason we cant add Ohana for dinner and still head to DTD after:) yeah a plan! I checked and sure enough 5:20 ADR just for us! Oh happy day
Then it was how many places did we really want to get to eat. DH and I have special feelings for San angel. Again, canceled that adr last time with weather and we were sad. I was torn however, on trying La hasienda but the atmospher in San Angel is great so why mess with it.
DHS, UGH the choices are not my favorite. As it stands. no ADR. Ods has made his choice of Piazza planet VERY clear. Maybe lunch or possibly dinner. Now that said, I think he's not going to like the food, just the place because... its Toy Story, nuff said. We live in NJ, grew up on NY style pizza. We have a pizzaria down the road and its darn good. Times we get pizza from restaurants that arent offical pizza places, the kids were less then thrilled. DH ordered them pizza from a chain place and the verdict- well Ods ate DH sausage and bean soup as a "trade" and yds had my fettuchini and salad:lmao: My kids know good food.
So meals were done for me until... Tomorrowlands Dessert Party came across my screen. I thought, What is this, I must know more. Fireworks and brownies, moosue and cookies?? It didnt take much to make that call. I love the idea! No crowd for WIshes, no trying to get a spot or adults standing in front of the kids and a nice restful viewing along with dessert! I asked ods if he wanted this over ADR someplace and it was a firm yes. I didnt have to ask my sweet toothed DH, and yds is still free.

So the finall tally on ADR
EP- San Angel Dinner
Ohana on non-park day
Chef Mickeys on last MK day, early, yikes

and WIshes Dessert Party. This will be our exit as its our last night, a great way to finish. We wanted to keep the tradition of finishing at MK with Wishes.
And that is it. I will admit, Sci Fi is a consideration but only if it works time wise for a walk in upon return to DHS from break, maybe. I looked into Sanna (?) at AKL, but I think foods are a bit exotic for DH. Our resort will fufill breakfast and lunches when we happen to be there. Flame tree, DH has made his request for at AK lunch.
And now for some sleep, and dreams of what tomrrow will bring on day 3 of our wondeful world of disney...

Before I get onto day 3 I am taking some time to think of what our must dos really are, thank you AKL Lover for reminding me that I should really prioritize.
Buzz Space ranger spin
MK- Me and Dh, rider swap for Space Mountain
POTC- Kids did it last time but its a must
BTMRR- ods rider swap
Astro Orbiter- Any info, we have never done this ride
Haunted Mansion
Small World
pooh- did it last time
Peter pan-did it last time
Philharmagic- did it last time
Jungle Cruise
Mad hatter- Ods did it last time, yds has not nor DH
Liberty square river boat(not 100% must do)
Magic Carpet of Alladin
Monsters Inc Laugh floor- worth it? We love the movie
Splash Mountain for Ods wtih me
Tomorrowland speed way
TL ppl mover
Carousel of Progress
RR
Main Street Vehicals- I know nothing about this, where what? Have not done it
After that, its a matter of what is reqquested once there and what we can get to. I would love to get to it all. I am unsure how to priotize what meeds to be done first. We arrive at MK at 10:30 am and plan to be in park lunch time. This day is PM EMH. We will then do an all day plan on last day of trip after a 7:50 CHef Mickeys breakfast

Subbing.....I got through the first 3 paragraphs before work blew up on me. :rolleyes1 can't wait to read, your little guy is a cutie!

Welcome!! I am trying to catch up on everyones PTR today but with my homework, my 2 year old home and taxes to be done, well not sure how much Ill get done. I need more time to catch up on my Dis.

I think last I posted I was climbing into bed on mt second night... ZZZZ
Good Morning, its Day 3!
Since we will have such a busy time leading up to the trip we decided day 3 would be a more leisurely day. We will not {GASP} be going to a park on day 3.

After maybe sleeping in a bit(hmm with kids we are looking at 8 am,lol but Ill take it) we plan to head to the food court for breakfast.
Weather permitting, the earlier part of the day will be dedicated to enjoying CBRs beautiful pool, slides and pools pirate ship, AARGpirate:

For mid day I have planned a nonplan, which for me is super hard but I think the fam appreciates my planning in some flexibility:laughing:

I would like to-
Rent the 4 person bikes at CBR
Take the kids on a walk about the property, use the play ground. All up to the kids.

I also might like to hope a bus to AK and transfer to AKL for a walk around the resort.
I know many ppl think its a waste of time but I love to see other resorts and I think AKL is beautiful( secret be told I was going to look into switching since we a have pin but after telling the kids and Dh about CBR I cant do that to them.) My other option for seeing AKL is to go on our AK day as a break from the park its a pm EMH day) and try to see if we can get into Sanaa as a walk in.
I am open to Nonpark ideas to do a alternates if anyone has them

Our day 3 ADR is Ohana! I am excited as I said after a difficult time getting there. We have a 5:20 ressie; the kids will be happy to get their monorail ride in.

After a relaxing fun dinner, we will head to DTD for the evening.

We are leaving lunch open at this point. If we are having fun in the pool, then we will grab something at food court. If they are looking to do something, we will eat CS where ever we wind up(AKL?)

So day 3 isnt all that exciting but I think it will be so nice to have some time to use the pool, have a cold drink and enjoy the sunshine. Since we live in N-E, it will probably be too early to swim home before the trip so this will be their first time in a pool since summer(other then Great wolf lodge over night in October for my birthday

So with day 3 complete, I tuck my family in and rest before a fun filled day 4... with an early waking to make it to am emh @ DHS in order to snag my TSM fast pass. oh the anxiety builds:eek: the pressure

I decided to add a photo post rather then breaking up my planning post
We love travel and my kids are awesome travelers!
Last summers vacation was St Thomas and St John for DH 40th. We also got a chance to see friends who live there and their ods and new baby. We traveled with our close friends and their kids. Wonderful trip (not my best pics though)

I hope I havent lost you all:surfweb:
So Day 4 I cant even fully report on since I am struggling in my ADR still.
My on-going debate(s) are

1. Do I just make the ADR for where I want to try therefore breaking up my days and plans for park time to make sure to get to some places I want to try
OR

2. DO I stick with my gut of just the few I have and do same day calls to the places I think I want to try and let the dis Gods decide by availability?

Here are my days and choices that need considering
Day 1 MK- No ADR since its arrival. We will do CS
Day 2 EP- San Angel. Over all I am happy with this choice. I think we will snack around the world for breakfast and lunch so dinner wont be a large meal.
*Day 3- Day Of rest- Ohana For Dinner
Should we do a breakfast some place? We have one ADR for breakfast all week which is also our 1 Character Meal. I wonder if we should do a second.

*Day 4 DHS- am EMH so leave park for Mid day break- This I am really stuck on.
I plan to get back to resort for a swim and cool off and call to see who can get us in for ADR.

My Options at this point are
- Cape May Clam bake. Buffetts are OK but not necassarily a favorite but I think there is much for all of us.
- Whispering Canyon-
-Sanaa
-
- Another place we can do by boat and return to DHS after.
- Shutters at our resort
but I havent heard great although I like the menu

* Day 5- AK No ADR. Possibly plan to go to Sanaa on this day since we will be close. Its a pm EMH so the day can be as long as we would like. Last trip was 9 am-6 and we ran out of time. I am not sure if we would just skip a break and get to AKL, eat and relax in the cool air instead.

Day 6- MK again Chef Mickeys for breakfast ADR and Tomorrowland terrace for dessert party. We wont do a lunch or dinner adr, just CS.

Day 7- Going home, so sad I dont even want to type it. We atleast have a Late flight, no ADR just relax around CBR for the day.
So thoughts??

A few thoughts!

You mentioned DH riding Mission Space. Inside the attraction (at the exit) there is a play area for your adorable boys. Plus, there is a splash area outside (if you walk out of Mission Space and towards Innoventions) that they might love. It will give your boys something to do while he rides, and if they need cooling off, they'll love splashing in the water! (They have misters for the adults to cool off under as well.)

Also, if it was me, I'd skip the Pirate League this year. I'd wait until both kids were old enough. Plus, by skipping, you'd have more time to tour MK. ;)

We absolutely love Monsters Inc Laugh Floor. It's totally hilarious and worth catching, IMHO.

Astro Orbiter kinda of creeped me out. :guilty: It was soo high, and I felt like I was going to fall out (even though I knew I'd be okay). I rode with DD9, and clutched her tightly. The kids liked it, but DS4 informed me he didn't want to ride that again. (Once was enough for him.)

We did Liberty Square River Boat last year. It was a nice break. The kids enjoyed looking out over the railing and pointing things out to me, and I just sat down on the deck (it wasn't crowded at all, hardly anyone rode when we boarded).

On our non-park days last year, we spent time in the pool, we hit the waterparks, we lounged around, they played on the playground, and we went to DTD. Visiting the other resorts is nice (but we did that with our ADRs).

Perhaps I'll see you around the parks! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for the Mission Space info! I even shared it with a friend who is going in march.
OK still deciding on a second Character Meal. I booked Tusker House for breakfast now.

Yay for Tusker House--we love it!!

Day 4 will be a lovely day in Animal Kingdom! I know many aren't fans but truely I love it. I feel it has a bit more magic, like MK does. Cant place why but I think its the relaxed feel when you enter and the tree of life I am in awe of.
Last trip, AK was the best weather we had all week. Just slightly gray skies on and off but over all nice. It was our day 1 in '08.
DSC05401-1.jpg

Like I posted last, I decided to try Tusker House and now I am confidant in the choice. I think it will be a nice way to start the day.
We will leave CBR early, 7:30 ish.
We have Tusker house at 8:20 am so I like the idea of entering early.
I plan to head to Kilimonjaro Safari when we get out and enjoy the early movement of the animals. I do not recall ever getting to it in the morning so I am excited to compare.
I think we will head to EE for Dh.
Tree of Life and Bugs life for sure. Last trip we didnt go and ran out of time.
Festival of the Lion king and if time, nemo the musical(again, we saw it last time and loved it even yds at 11 mo until he fell asleep.)

DSC05443.jpg

DSC05442-1.jpg

DH and Ods are going to do Kali RIver Rapids so might be a good time to see Nemo just little man and me. He might just sleep again:cloud9:
Per Dh request, we will eat at Flame Tree again.
And the rest is just taking our time to get what we can in.

My original assesment, I must have loked on wrong calander, I beleived the park was open until 9 due to pm EMH. I was dissapointed to learn that it wasnt and worried that we would again run out of time. Fingers crossed for hours being extended.
I am super excited about AK this time to really utilize my DSLR camera that I did not have last trip.
Still going to wnd it with dinner, especially if AK clses at 6. We will then head to AKL and check it out and see if we can eat at Sanaa by chance. If not, I we will head back to CBR and get something quick and swim. Ods is looking forward to a night swim.

DSC05453-1.jpg

As I mentioned before, I planned at day of rest on day 3. We have decided now to see how we feel on day one, how kids are after traveling and IF they seem to need an early return on day 1 from MK or if its very busy from pm EMH we might(DH agreed) do a 1/2 day back in MK and up our park tickets from 5 day to 6 for the $25 or whatever it costs. I know I can do that now, but then I would HAVE to plan to be in the parks losing all of my plans for a pool day. Me personally, I would love to add the day but I know kids will love the pool.
How is it no matter how long of a vacation I plan it is never enough time?
Going on AKlovers ideas, I found all sorts of disney cupcakes in email today so ds chose what we are making friday night! I think its alien but he likes the mickey ones as well which look easy. We didnt do our Lion King movie night, I forgot sunday we were having friends over. The kids instead watched Matter tall tales DVD that they got for Valentines day.

Oh... gifts. I want to get gift cards for both my kids and for my friends kids who we travel with. She is doing a surprise trip for them(1st time) in March. I plan to get gift cards and out them in cards and have mom bring them along and give them to kids when they know they are going. I need to get on that.
OK, Well I have an 8 am class tomorrow and work until 8:30 pm, so I better get myself to bed.

We are so excited to return...

Inspired by mt friend AKLlover, we did another movie night.
We are trying to catch up on some Disney classics so we finally got to Lion King, my personal favorite.
So for dinner I made Sloppy Simbas and Trees of Life (AKA sloppy Joes, my homemade recipe and broccoli) which are a hit.
Dessert was a surprise for the kids, they knew it was cupcakes but
.....

.....

.....

They were Timone and Pumba's Bugs and Grubs cupcakes as well as Oreo Mickey Cupcakes! LOVED THEM

Ods loves the movie, yds liked it but harder for him to stay with. All in all, a fun night!

And this was a just because party a few weeks ago. They wanted to dress up as Buzz and Woody and we had snacks, used fancy glasses and put out some decorations.

I got a shout out in your PTR--this makes my day! :teeth:

Your pictures are so good! I love the one of your boys smiling over the cupcakes--super cute! And the bug and grub cupcakes are adorable. If we ever pick to do the Lion King, I'll have to make those!

I'm way late in reading through...great updates by the way!!

as for how to handle the age differences in your kids. my suggestion is that for some things you will have to pair up -- this way ODS is not bored with little kid stuff, YDS doesn't feel left out. but here's the thing -- make sure that you and your DH swap your kids occasionally. In 09, DD was 5 1/2. still not quite ready for big kid rides. DH & DSIL went off to do the awesome TOT, EE, Dinosaur, all the cool stuff. I was always with DD and while we had a blast, I fet a little gipped at not getting to any of the really awesome rides. this trip its just the three of us and at 7 1/2 DD is 52" tall already so she is tall enough and also ready for the bigger rides. anyway my point is, if you and DH don't swap kids you may feel a little left out plus there is just so much fun in experiencing your kids having an amazing time.

I am also anxiously waiting till May....

LO VE LOVE the Mickey cupcakes!

where do you camp? we are campers too ..well okay we RV ..... no ground sleeping for this chick! We do a lot lately in SE PA in the Lancaster area with friends, though we have camped down around Stone Harbor and enjoyed doing it.

We are NE PA, right across the river from Jersey (cheaper gas there and you don't have to pump it. yeah!)

Yes...I agree, May cannot get here fast enough!!! It looks like you are going the week before us. Love your pics! :thumbsup2

I'm not one to read PTR or TR but I had to sub after seeing your gorgeous pictures. Can't wait to read more!

I just stumbled upon your ptr today and I had to post because I had the same little shark romper for my youngest! I think I need to get out more because I always get excited when I see the same outfit or the same face characters in other poster's photos. :rotfl:

Your trip is shaping up nicely! We also do just a couple of TS meals to save time with young children. Flexibility is key when they are little. Our favourite memories are the low key quiet moments that were not at all planned. That hasn't stopped me from relishing in the planning process, however! ;)

Great suggestions, thanks. I am not a much a thrill rider alone so if DH isnt with me, I am skipping RnR, EE and mission space(I havent done either yet.) We plan to switch it up and Ill take ods on some rides as well. We will both take a turn on Sorin' with child swap for yds, Ill go on Spalsh Mnt and Dh can do kali.

We also have an RV, got it in August. Love it so far. We went to Thimothy lake in PA, and Bull run VA and SILs house. We are also going to Knoebles in July for 4 days which is our longest( I am a bit scared since it feels cramped after a few days.) We are going with 4 families!
You must be a stones throw from me!

Thanks to everyone for my pic compliments, I love to photograph but still learning my DSLR. Hoping by the time I return, Ill have really gotten some great shots and a lot of time to practice with it.
Lots of lovely ppl going in may! So fun.

SO a few Updates to my Plans-
We decided after much deliberation to drop Chef Mickeys. Ods agreed to it. I felt like with Tusker House, I didnt need CM with same characters. I was considering Ohana breakfast but we have it for dinner. CP wasnt really a good option since yds doesnt even know who pooh and Tigger are(however, Ill be working on that before we go.)
So the replacement, is Hollywood and Vine breakfast on our DHS day. While I am not excited for the meal I think Character wise will be a hit. With it being an am EMH day, we already had a plan to arrive for RD. This should give us a chance to FP and ride TSM, then take a ride on great movie ride or something with short line before getting to H&V for 9:50.
I think it will work nicely with going to Pizza Planet later, then a break back to CBR. Still plan to call and see where can take us for dinner that day. Otherwise CS it is.

I was feeling pressure to make my "day of rest" park day then I got ppl tell me I have to have a down day.UGH, so hard to decide so we are back to my originalplan of no park on tuesday.

I also got an email this week that airlines changed my flight to an hour earlier:mad: I know its just an hour but it MY magical hour that I want in WDW. Oh well.
Aside, Dh company pushed for them to put in vacation so work can be planned accordingly. SUre enough, in their typical fashion, they have a HUGE job the weekend we leave. We have DN wedding friday and I know they were pushing that he go to work saturday with us leaving sunday. THEN, they decided that they want to start another big project, Memorial day weeknd! So we get to PHL at 7 pm and he needs to be at work on sunday of memorial day weeknd at 6:30 am. I have no idea where or if he is away(like for the week.)UGH, I can see the calls will be coming while we are away.

And finally, I am taking summer classes that I realized start the week I am away. So looks like Ill be starting classes using wireless card, late one night from my disney vacation. Could be worse I guess.

Sorry so many life things are getting in the way of your plans- isn't that always how it works!
I'm also going to have to do the entertain one child while the smaller one waits. I haven't gotten this far in planning yet- but I know some of the rides have kidcot type stations or playgrounds near.

Hi All, not sure who is still around but I have slacked off on my PTR.
Glad to say DH does not have to work the day we return from our trip so memorial day weekend can be relaxing after a busy week.

Some new developments in our trip, we decided to add Dining Plan!:cool1:
I am still unsure of it and intimidated by figuring out what I can get and not holding up a line of ppl.

So with only 64 days to go, we spent last night deciding on 2 more TS meals. The hardest part was where to fit them in. I feel like additional TS is cutting inot our Park touring time or taking away from needed rests and kids fav...pirate pool!

So I had DH on All ears menus while I was on Disneys ADR system on my lap top and we had a map between us(since he is park and resort location illiterate:rotfl:) He thought I was kidding when I offered a copy of my itinerary(I was not!)

My first idea was a 2 credit fun Show, but Luau and HDDMR(is that the right short hand?) and Mickeys BBQ were booked Other then late Luau which would be too much after a long day in parks.

So I had been toying with a visit to AK so, off I went and scored Jiko! I was happy as it was highly recommended.

Next I told DH he had to choose:rolleyes1 So He starts looking at Allears, but I had to keep saying No that is a pool area CS or that is a pita to get to. Then I recalled a boat ride to WL so we would do WCC. DH and the boys would enjoy it so after some reading of menus, DH made that his pick. Whoo Hoo now to just add the DP(yes after the fact.)

ALL is great right............ nope Jiko is apparently 2 Credits Oh !@*$. I text DH in the garage that I am switching to sanaa. He is ok with whatever I pick.

Ok back to Sanaa, looks interesting and cool with the views. So I started to read reviews and pictures look good but then again I over think it.

So as I lay in bed last night, I start to thiink- What if my meal is too spicy to share with yds, how could I choose ONE item and no appetizers or extras(this is a down fall for me with DP, I can skip meal and enjoy the other things.)

So I get up and over coffee, I tell DH I want to switch it again:idea:, this time to Boma:confused: I again hop on all ears and tell him the menu, sounds good. So Boma it is.
I am not a buffet person but here i am with a few. At least Boma isnt typical and I really had to find places that offered decent kids meals since ods will not live on nuggets or macaroni with processed tasting sauce for a week. If he doesnt get some borccoli or a salad on the trip, it could get ugly:eek:

Final picks for us are now

Day 1 All CS
Day 2 san Angel 5:25 pm
Day 3 Ohana 5:15 pm (non park day)
Day 4 Hollywood and Vine(in spite of terrible reviews, but its Oso)9:50 and pizza planet CS late lunch
Day 5 Tusker House8:25am and Boma 6:50 pm
Day 6 Whispering Canyon 5 pm and Dessert party 9 pm
Dat 7 CS until they make us leave

So how did I do??
