Is it Loud at Ft. Wilderness?

April when we were there our neighbors on the loop were quiet. We were oon the back of the 300 loop. OUr problem was all the noise in the Magic Kingdom frm Grad Night. It seems they have bands that play till about 2 am. The sound carries pretty well over the water. The first night we were in a tent & the second we were in the RV and we could hear it both nights. The second night we were a bit more exhausted so we fell asleep even with the noise.

We were in a pop up last june for 10 days and never heard our neighbors or much else for that matter. Later at night we heard the bus pull away because we were near bus stop but that's about it. It was much quieter than many other campgrounds we have been to.

Compared to staying at the All Star Resorts, you can't beat FW! We leave the air conditioners on and we can't hear a thing!

In my experience, it was louder at FW than the All Star Sports during Pop Warner week. Of course we had our air conditioner going in the hotel but we didn't have one in our tent. We did have a small fan at FW but it didn't help much on the noise. Like I said earlier, it took a couple of days for us to get used to it. Also, something that I would recommend, especially if you are night owls, use sleep masks. That Florida sun rises too early for us and the tent is very bright in the morning. Both trading posts usually have them in stock.

If your'e expecting a great wilderness experience at FW you might be disappointed. As to noise, I was so worn out at night that I had no problems falling asleep. Even after taking a mid day break and returning to the parks.

Request a tent site away from the main roads where the buses are traveling, bring along a fan, quit "thinking" so much, and enjoy! You will have a blast! The most important thing is being together with your family. Oh, and one more thing- MARCHING CHIEFS ALL THE **** TIME!!! :thumbsup2

OK, DW said "us" it was actually "her" that took two days to get used to it. Me, I'm like jima53, I was so tired at the end of the day that I didn't have any problems falling asleep.

Mark,

We'll be there at that time celebrating our anniversary (5/25), and DS's 10th birthday (5/30). I'll look for you just in case you make it! :thumbsup2 I think you guys would enjoy it. My kids love the campground as much as the parks. We used to always stay at the Contemporary, but 2 years ago we bought a camper and started going to FW. My kids would actually rather stay at FW than any hotel at Disney.
If you do go be sure to watch Wishes from the beach-it's great!

We have camped at FW twice, and stayed in the cabins once -- I don't recall ever being kept awake by noisy neighbors. All three times were during the busy summer months, so lots of people there. However, we are always exhausted at the end of the day, so sleep was never a problem! I do agree with previous posters, AC does a lot to muffle any possible noises.

So tally - were/are you a Chief?

How 'bout you?:)

We have been there sevceral times, and never noticed the noise. Of course it might be because our two small kids were making it.:rotfl:

We tent camp and stay in 2000 loop and don't have any problem with noise at all. The only real "noise" we ever had was last year several groups of teenage cheerleaders had a cheerleader training/competition camp in the group camping area. You could hear them cheering/talking a mile away and they did it till 10-11 each night. You could even hear them over the EWP at the lake. But that many teenage girls and what do you expect, I'm sure the teenage boys in the campground were enjoying it though :rotfl:

Hi Mark, I am a Southern Baptist pastor, so I know all about the leave on Monday, return on Tuesday scenario :) . Anyway, have been to FW on a number of occasions and have stayed in both RV's and tents. Never had a problem with noise in the past. It is actually much quieter in the camping loops than it is around the campfire program area.

So go ahead and enjoy your trip. IMHO, it is the best resort at WDW for families...there's just sooo much to do!

Anyway, if you are worried about the noise, just bring a fan and have a great time.

Grace and peace,
Brian

Tally -

Screech Squad - 89-94! I made it through all 5 years without getting swamped! Last time I was there though, I think the swamp was no longer there. HA! i bet we've met before - How cool is that? PM me - I tried PMing you, but couldn't figure out how - I didn't see a PM tab for you.

Thanks everyone for the info. We're still deciding whether to go or not. I brought my wife in on the decision because of the money we'll spend. Which we're not sure we have. I figure at this point it will be moot with no sites available. We're known as the Whirlwind Trippers over on the Trip Reports Board, so we might just pull out a Whirlwind Trip and stay at a Value - if we go.

Thanks everyone!

Blessings!

Mark,
I hope you get to do the Ft Wilderness trip. I'm a UM minister in Indiana. Our daughter is 9 and we have been camping at FW once a year since 2000. We don't go to the parks every day but there is enough to do, as you know without doing the parks. We purchased five day hopper a few years ago and have been stretching it out over the past 3 years. We go to Mickey's Halloween Party one day which is less expensive and stretches out the park hopper longer. Hope you get some time off.
