Is it logical to fly into San Diego and drive north to go to Disneyland...

I am planning a trip for June 2005. Does it make sense to fly from Baltimore, MD to San Diego and then drive north to Anaheim (approximately how long will that take on a Saturday)?

I am thinking about doing that and staying 5 nights at the HoJo in Anaheim. Going to Disneyland for 3 days and then Knott's Berry Farm for another day.

Then leave Anaheim and drive back down south to San Diego. Not sure where to stay, but we want to go to Sea World and LegoLand. Oh, on the way back down to San Diego, we want to take our time driving, with a planned stop at Newport Beach (?).

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Thank you,
Kris

If it's cheaper to fly in there than OC/John Wayne then by all means, do it. It generally takes about 90 minutes to drive from the DT SD area to the DL area.

If you'll have a car and willing to drive I would take the cheapest between the 5 area airports. (John Wayne, Ontario, LAX, Long Beach, and San Diego) including car rental.

I would also factor in time. If you'll have more time the day you arrive than the day you leave, you will want to be closer to the airport the day you leave, than the day you arrive. I don't know if I would fly into/out of San Diego, without planning on staying in San Diego at either the begining or ending of a trip, but I would do it in you situation.

my itenerary
fly into john wayne airport, stay at a hotel by disneyland
for the 3 days, go to knotts for one day,( staying still by disneyland ( carousel inn) then taking a train ( very cheap) to San diego and staying at the best western 7 sea's inn in san diego and go to the zoo, and sea world. To far to drive in my opinion so I take an airplane in and then a train down to san diego and then fly o ut from there was a good solution for us. We could never drive in california traffic :)

I live in La Mesa--just a few blocks from San Diego State. When we drive to DL it takes us about 90 minutes in light traffic (and I've never seen no traffic). It has taken us 2.5 hours before, but there was a pretty bad accident. Legoland is about 30 minutes north of me and about an hour away from DL. Legoland is in Carlsbad, and you might try looking there for a hotel. It would be cheaper-normally-than staying near SeaWorld. We go to Legoland at least once a month in case you have any questions.

We are doing just that next week. We are flying into San Diego then driving to DL for 4 days and heading back to San Diego for 5 days. I looked into the surfliner from San Diego to Anaheim (if you are a AAA member they have a buy one, get one free sale). We decided that driving gives us more freedom to do what we want (like stopping on the way back to San Diego). It also seems to me that you would need a car in San Diego if you want to do both Sea World and the Zoo.

san diego motels will have shuttles and take you where you need to go , especially sea world and the zoo. My motel takes us to both.
