I visited DL in August of 2008. It was during the last week of said month. By the mid afternoon, the crowd levels significantly increased. But it was not horrid. The weather was though, for me. It was just like in Trader Sam's jungle, hot and humid. My last day in Disneyland, it was not quite as hot, nor humid, but still, I felt like removing my clothing and tossing it across Adventureland. What can I say?

Just booked 2.5 days at DL for the third week in August. Looking forward to it! The only closure is (sigh) Matterhorn. But I'm thankful that the following attractions will be open:

Big Thunder Mountain
POTC
Haunted Mansion
All of the Fantasyland rides
Space Mountain
