Is it just me????

I was at the mall an hour ago and they were sponsoring the "prettiest baby" contest. I have never really given it much thought before but for some reason it really bothered me. Seeing all of the parents primping their children and seeing the trophies to be given out got to me. Giving trophies because you are pretty? I don't have any children (not yet anyway) but what kind of message does that send? "Oh, honey, I'm sorry, you are cute but not the prettiest here".

... and we wonder why this world is so preoccupied with looks

I don't know - seems pretty harmless to me. Those things are more for the parents than the kids I think. It's the older ones that become possessed that worry me!

It does bother me a little but only if the baby doesn't like it! My best friend tried to put my niece in one and she cried and cried. I was so relieved she didn't win...she obviously hated it!

Now my cousin's daughter who is 4 loves them. She preens and smiles and twirls and has so much fun. She doesn't care if she wins or not...LOL!
