Is It Just Me?

Hi everyone,
I'm glad this thread was started, because the same thought is obviously going through many people's minds -- mine included. We leave on December 4, and I was certainly not happy to hear this news today (I'm prone to panic attacks as it is! ).

I was in NYC, staying at the Millennium Hilton, across the street from the WTC, two weeks before the 9/11. I can't help but wonder if this time I won't be as lucky ... will happen during the time I'll be travelling? Is it such a stretch to imagine Disney World on some terrorist's target list?

However, this just goes to show that it's so easy to let these kind of thoughts take over. Reading through these posts has made me feel so much better. I'm not alone in feeling like this, but like everyone else, I'm not going to let it get to me or dampen my enthusiasm in the least.

I'm with you Pete's Mom! And I think I'll be with you at MVMCP December 5 as well ... is that when you posted you'll be there?? Let's just focus on all the FUN we're going to have and the big smiles on our kids's faces which will make everything else seem a million miles away!!
:bounce: :jester: :bounce:

The thought crossed my mind when I went two weeks ago too, but I didn't dwell on it. I'm more concerned with the Army Depot near me storing old chemical bombs that they don't know what to do with. Around here, that's a possible target.

My DGD's "other" grandparents had a Disney Cruise booked for the week b/4 Christmas last year....they were going to take my DGD with them. My DD & I didn't want her to go because of 9/11 so they cancelled...nothing ended up happening of course. They should've went on with thier plans, but we just couldn't stand the thought of something happening to her. But now, we wish we would've let her go.

I live in Washington, D.C. a few miles from the White House and the Pentagon. So when I go to WDW terrorism is the last thing on my mind, for once.

It could happen there, I guess, but then it could happen just about anywhere.

I don't like the warnings either. If it is so vague that I couldn't save myself or my family if it happened, why bother telling me?

Think of it like this. If you were going to die five minutes from now and there is nothing you could do to prevent it, would you want to know? Not me. Why spend the last 5 minutes of my life worrying and waiting? The stupid announcements just add more fear to our already worry filled lives. If you have a time, a place, and a weapon, please let us know about it. Otherwise, don't say anything. I think after 9/11 we ALL know that it could happen again at any time.

Disney is sending up several characters to Niagara Falls Canada next week. It's their annual Festival of Lights and I have hotel reservations. I was excited about seeing at least this smidgeon of Disney. I was there a few days ago and their Newspaper was full of terrorist warnings yet security at the border was non existent. They didn't ask us for I.D. or even ask more than where we lived. Now that is scary.

I think the casino could be a prime target as well as the Festival with thousands of U.S. and Canadian citizens in attendance. But I'm still going. I'm scared, but the thought of them keeping me from living my life scares me even more.....

Believe me, when I posted, I wasn't trying to "start a debate." I agree about their being tons of more (or less) significant potential targets, and I most assuradly am NOT about be scared off by vague threats!! It's just that, well, I sorta feel like WDW is my "baby," and I feel very protective toward it. Then there is the fact that we're going to be there in a week, AND on a major holiday! Thank you to those of you who understand!

BTW, speaking of locations: we are down the road from Barksdale AFB (you know, B-52's). Imagine our shock to see and hear Pres. Bush broadcasting live on TV FROM BAFB the afternoon of 9/11!!!!! I'D RATHER BE AT WDW!!!!!

i have thought of this also. I told my husband about it today and he agreed with Pete's mom. God help the terrorist if he went after WDW. Lots of angry Mickey mouse loving people would get them all!

Am I concerned? Yes. Will I let it ruin our trip? NO!

We will go on and live our lives. I refuse to let them "win".

Proud to be American! Proud to love WDW!

I simply went to work one day, and found myself in the more horrific situation anyone could imagine.

Could I have planned it, avoided it, changed it, done anything differently?

No. You can't live your life in fear. If you do, then what purpose is living your life?

If you avoid everything that may be a target, you will avoid life. We live in a new, unsettling world. And we might as well get used to it.

Go. Enjoy.
