Is Disney trying to make Tinkerbell into more of a sex symbol? Is she one already?

I think she is nothing but a brat and don't see the appeal....

I have long held that tinkerbell is a...well I can't say it here but lets just say sex symbol would probably cover it. I don't see the appeal either

Tinker Bell has always been a sex symbol, more or less. Here's a snippet from the book "How to Be Like Walt" by Pat Williams and Jim Denney:

(Marc) Davis' Tinker Bell is widely rumored to be modeled after Marilyn Monroe. Not true. Davis did use a live model for Tinker Bell, but her name was Margaret Kerry. "There were a lot of people who thought Tink was just a little too sexy," Miss Kerry recalls. "But Marc Davis told me he got away with it by keeping the bottom half womanly while drawing the top half as a young girl."

And one by Charles Canemaker in his book "Treasures of Disney Animation Art":
"Tinker Bell was designed with the knowledge that her acting would all be done in pantomime, with a face that would register her emotions clearly, a simple costume that would not clutter up her movements, and sex appeal to charm the viewer."

:)

I'm going to dork out for a moment, but from other books/series I've read, fairies are actually pretty s*xual creatures!

Welll. . .the original Tinkerbell was v. v. obviously a sex kitten/kept woman kinda' girl. It's not like they changed the source material.

I have a friend who has what I would consider to be a more than healthy attraction to Tink.

My wife has a stamp for scrapbooking that makes little cutouts of Tink, and she did a whole page with the stamp so I could decorate his desk with Tink-onfetti when he transferred.

Yes, I do see that and have strong feelings against it. Not the best role model for little girls.

She is bratty, snotty, manipulative and jealous! :)

Perfect, that should prepare any little girl for high school, college, and their early 20's. :lmao:

If you remember, when Pocahontas came out, there was quite a flap about her....assets....shall we say??

I was with my DH, DFIL, DUncleIL, and DCousinIL(male) at AK last year when we happened by a Pocahontas meet and greet. She stopped the four of them in their tracks.....

You guys know that all Ariel wore under the sea was a pair of Clamshells right?
Something to think about, or not think about as the case may be.

Anyway, Disney has been sexing up Tinkerbell.
If you read Disney War, in the early 2000s, the sexing up of Tinkerbell and the start of the Whole Princess marketing had Roy furious.

And of course, there's the Jessica Rabbit Merch.

Jessica Rabbit longboard company T-shirts are covered with Double entandres.

Since we're talking about sex appeal how about the girls at the Norway pavilion at Epcot. I think the add that runs in Norway reads, "Opportunity to work for slave wages in the US, any girls less than a 9.5 need not apply".

Which is why I love hereI Those are not bad traits for a woman to have IMHO. I love Tink. If you really want to analyze her as a character just read Shakespeares Midsummer.

I personally love Tink - or at least the original one. She's so bratty and mischievious. I love her catty attitude and her jealousy. But poor Tink has been subject to a lot of "sexing up", that's for sure. I'm not a fan of the "improved" Tinkerbell, but the old one and I got along just fine. ;)

For the longest time she was just a sassy little pixie. Now she has become a little "sexier" than in the past. I believe in fairies, but not the bedroom type. I think that if Disney added a little less of the posing that she does, she wouldn't be that bad, but again it all has to do with the situations that they put her in. If a normal fairy sits on a flower they look happy, but Tink looks a little more sassy than normal.

I love the Norway pavillon
