Is it just me or is everyone getting grumpy!!!

I have been lurking on this board for over a year now. I never posted for fear of looking stupid or saying the wrong thing. I finally got up the courage to start posting recently,
after I saw how nice and helpful many of the people here were.

This has not happend to me, but I am starting to read alot of negative responses to the questions or threads being posted on the various boards. The reason it's bothering me is it's also some of the same people doing it over and over again. If someone wants to vent, or express there feelings about something that has happened to them in there personal life, or on a trip, they should not have to worry about being attacked just for asking for help or some one to lend an ear for morale support.

I joined here to learn more about Disney and meet others who shared my interest. I know I am not alone and there are many great people here, who are very sweet, and compassionate. I just hope the ones who are not stop using this forum to pick on others.

There hasn't really been any recent trend in this regard. I think you can go back in the archives and find a message like yours every year going back even to the beginning, eight or nine years ago. Actually, there was a time, going back about four years ago, when what you're noting was a lot more prevalent, and a lot more insidious.

I think most folks take from the boards only what they want and ignore the rest. That's a good prescription for DIS-happiness.

The Dis is just like the real world. You are going to find all kinds of people who have all kinds of temperaments and opinions. You will find posts that make you sad and others that make you laugh. Some may even make you angry. When people are genuinely having tough times I think that you will find the Dis is very supportive. It will always be interesting, and you can still learn a ton of stuff !!!

I agree with what eveyone has said, I have seen alot of great things here that have even brought me to tears. I'ts just hard to see someone being shredded because certain people do not agree with what they have posted and go out of their way to be ugly about it. Everyone is entitled to their views, but just be nice about it.

Foohound..I agree about it always being the same names.
I find it is the ones who go on and on about their owm integrity and morals and follow the rules how they see them to the Nth degree..who seem to lack the most basic levels of human compassion.
They also seem to be severley intolorant of children..which is strange for disney lovers.

My advice use your ignore button..If only we had one in real life..

Nasty people have always been on the DIS. Everyone knows which ones they are and takes their responses with a grain of salt. Don't let the turkeys get you down.

I just don't like when people's feelings are hurt because whole groups of people decide to play tag team bullying.

I think it always gets worse during the holidays. You have people who have to do family commitments with people that they don't like and you have lonely people, and that can make for some (often unintentional) meanness!

That's a good point. Beyond that, the malaise many suffer from during the holiday season may also affect folks' perception of "meanness", making folks more sensitive than they normally would be. A double-whammy.

The DIS is basically a good place to go because the moderators do a good job at keepng things civil. Try going on boards where the moderators aren't as visible!

There are different types of people everywhere and that includes the internet, and even more so since it's not face-to-face. I have made a vow not to be nasty on any boards since it is not worth it to me to get that upset over things - if something is bothering me then it is time to walk away from the computer.

If you want to find some REAL nasty places, try message boards with hormonal pregnant women!!! I was on a few when I was pregnant with my last child 8 years ago. The ladies could be wonderful, but they could also get downright nasty! And then after the babies were born all-out fights came about with differences on child rearing, bottle versus breast feeding, working or stay-at-home Mom's, cloth versus disposable diapers, etc., etc., etc. The DIS is nothing compared to that!

Anyhow....stick around and enjoy the ride. The moods seem to go up and down around here and you just have to ride them out. Holidays seem to bring out the best...and sometimes the worst...in us all.

Since Tinker74 elected to discuss a private message in public, I'll post the message for you here, so you can judge.

Gosh, it seems to me that the biggest conflicts are caused by the folks who don't exhibit integrity and morals -- those who advocate and sanction rule-breaking and other anti-social behavior.

Given the smiley, and the fact that instead of calling attention to Tinker74's initial mean message in public I sent my reply privately, I doubt any reasonable person would consider the message mean -- however regardless of the smiley, and regardless of the fact that it was sent privately, my message was surely not as mean as Tinker74's original message was.

And we both know what you said in your PM.

When I made my origional post about mean people here i never once said your name...so I have no idea why you thought i was talking about you...
That does not give you the right to pM me nasty comments .
