Is it just Delta or are all of the airlines rescheduling?

I tried to post this question before, but I stepped away from the computer and when I came back, I was booted off of AOL.

I have now been anitiated into the "Delta messed everything" up club. Can someone tell me if it is just delta rescheduling or is it all of the airlines and Delta just seems to be the airline most of us fly? Can I expect ATA (the other airline we are flying on) to follow in Delta's footsteps? In other words, is it only Delta rescheduling or are all of the airlines resceduling?

Someone please post and help me save my sanity. I need to know what is to come of all of this. If this is the way it is going to be with all of the airlines, that's fine. I just need to be prepared for it. Thanks for any help!

I think the only airline not changing things is Southwest. I know that Frontier cut back on flights (our flights for December were cancelled), but since bookings are now back to where they were last year, they've been adding on a few more flights and hiring people back.

Looks like SW will get a lot of Delta's business. I'm actually peeved because Delta isn't calling anyone to let them know. I've read that here, so I was prepared and was checking our flights daily. I called Sat to see if there were any changes. (couldn't bring our flights up on their website) They told me since it was a holiday weekend and that most flights were full, I shouldn't worry. I logged on here this morning and found out a lot more people's flights had been rearranged so I checked ours and found out we had been drug into this mess, too. Now the flights are almost completely booked, so it was either take what they gave us, or get a refund and pay a lot more with another airline, or not go at all.

Thanks for letting me know what you've found.

everyone with the exception of southwest is making significant cuts to their schedules as a whole. Most dropping 15-20% of their flights.

Delta's changes are affecting us the most since they choose to make a large portion of their 15%by elimating 50% of their direct flights to florida. (I'm guessing they think its cheaper to consolidate their operations through their hubs).

We are flying Delta in December. Should I start checking NOW? I just got my Etickets in the mail yesterday and everything was the same as when I ordered them 9/27. But when I plug the flight numbers into their flight check thing, the one flight (Atlanta-Orlando, the second leg on the way down) won't come up for today, yesterday or tomorrow. I'd call Delta but I'm at work.

The flight you are trying to check on may not currently exist but will exist in the future, so you can't check it with that mechanism. I would go to the flight schedules and see if it still shows up.

Here's my story to add to this tale of woe, although there isn't much woe in mine...
I did call Delta anyway with my cell. Turns out they don't offer my first flight anymore (left DTW at 5:45 AM) so she quickly rebooked me on a 6:40 AM departure. Wow, we don't have to be at the airport until 4:30AM now! We get into Orlando an hour later at 11:15, which limits our park time, although I hope to get to the Poly by noon. We also switch planes in Cincinnati instead of Atlanta.
Our departure flight leaves at 6:35 now instead of 7:10, but the flight numbers are the same. We DO switch in Atlanta on the way back.
Question: I bet I need new seat assignments for the flights down (I had 5 together on every leg before, darn it!) but will I need them on the way back if the flight #s are the same?? I need at least two and three together because of the kids.

Robin, if you don't mind my asking, when are you going in Dec? I had the same exact thing happen, ATL-MCO leg cancelled for Dec. 26. I wouldn't be too sure on that return flight yet, either, because the Delta agent who talked to my Travelocity agent said just because the return hasn't changed yet, doesn't mean it's not going to! We have a child, too, and are hoping to have all three together, still. Are we having fun yet?

Yoopermom, we are going December 6-9. When the Delta rep. looked she immediately noticed that the first leg (Detroit-Atlanta) was no longer flying and rebooked our entire trip down. So far, the trip back is just moved up 1/2 hour but not cancelled. She did say we could leave Orlando earlier but we didn't want to do that!
Try entering your flights on the part where you check if they flew out today or yesterday. That's where I got my first inkling something was wrong, when it said flt. 1999 did not exist. If a problem develops call Delta. Or better yet just call them anyhow. I'm going to call weekly until we leave.

I just found out today our Delta flights -- 2406 from IND to MCO and 2411 coming back on 12/3 and 12/7 -- have been "affected." The email response I received says, "Our representatives have not yet begun calling December passengers." Hello! We're supposed to leave in less than 60 days!! All of their options now are twice as much as what we paid with no direct flights. I'm going to have DH call and complain; he's good at making a fuss!! I think if you want to travel now, you're pretty much up the creek.

If they have "affected" your flights, you have not worries. They will take care of the changes.
There should not be any charge unless you change your departure or arrival places. If you are looking on the net for fares, that does not necessarily apply to you.
Don't make a fuss before you find out all your options.

"Our representatives have not yet begun calling December passengers." Hello! We're supposed to leave in less than 60 days!!

The way they keep changing schedules, they have to worry about people leaving in the next week or two first. Even if you change it now, chances are there will be more changes before you go. I know you are anxious, I am too, I have a Dec 1 to 7 trip. I keep holding my breath, USAir said they will have their schedules for after Nov 3 in by next Sunday. I think this is something that will be constantly changing, especially if something else happens. I just want to hear those words "welcome to Orlando".

Well, TWA went out of business. I got no notification or anything. I end up calling them, waiting on phone for 45 mins, and they reschedule me on AA. It's ridiculous.

I just was checking our June flights and they all have changed. Outbound from Bos to Mco was changed with us leaving an hour later and the inbound has us arriving 2 hours later. We had not received any phone calls and when I asked the agent as to when we would be called she told me a few weeks before the flight. I find that very odd since what if these changes were not acceptable and conflicted with all the other transportation issues of limos to and from home to airports and to and from airport in Disney. Delta I was told was adjusting their schedules and there is no compensation for our being inconvenienced. Has anyone else gotten any compensation for their changes.

Thanks,

Ed

I called Delta this past Sunday to see if I could change my flights from MCO. Leaving MCO on a Sunday departure instead of a Tuesday in April. Well when the agent had problems bringing up my flight numbers, I knew I was in trouble. I brought up my itin. on the Delta site while on the phone and then the agent offered me the Sunday change at 150 to change 3 tickets plus the difference of about 60 each ticket (too much), then she offered me the same day time change at no extra charge..How big of her, as I found out they had cancelled my 5:25 flight anyways!
So now I am still coming home on Tuesday, just an earlier flight...Get into BOS @ 2pm instead of 8:30, but now I've lost a day in the World!!:(

Ok, here's what happened. (original op here, ;))

Cousin's Friday flight with Delta: IND to MCO @ 7:40pm. Does not exist now. They moved him to a 2pm flight!!! That's 5 hours and 40 min difference. Now, if it were an hour or 2, maybe he could have done something to get to the airport on time, but over 5 1/2 hours earlier? They did rebook him on a comair flight leaving at 8:50pm after I haggled with them, so that's not too bad. Now he has a layover and will get into MCO at midnight, though. (It's really going to be a long weekend for him)

They also cancelled my other cousin's DH's flight (2411) MCO to IND. He is now leaving at 6:35pm instead of 9:35pm. It also has a layover in Atlanta now. (shaking my head in disbelief. This is a man who is terrified to fly as it is. He will be on 2 flights by himself AND in a huge airport. I feel soooo bad for him. He is trying to get out of going, but my cousin won't let him) Anyway, I was told that it was the latest flight that Delta had leaving MCO now. I was also told that that was the only flight that they could get him on. I even offered to exchange the 6:35pm flight for a Sunday morning flight as long as it was early. They had no room available on any flight. Now, when I was trying to figure my flight out, I saw that there was plenty of room on the Sunday morning flights for him to get a seat. I even tried to find him a flight that routed thru CVG instead of Atlanta.

Then they changed my flight from 12:30pm to 10:30am. Not too bad, but I really wanted to have enough time for breakfast and not be rushed. Oh well, I'll live. I just don't understand why they are not calling people. When I called about my flight, they made sure they had my phone number and email. Why? What I have delt with is there isn't any room on other flights. You either have to check daily (thanks everyone for the heads up) or lose your flight and get a refund hoping to find another carrier with a similar rate at this late date. I know there are still specials going on, but it does not help the people that are all set to travel this weekend or next week and they get bumped because they did not see that their flight has been cancelled and they can't take off of work 5 1/2 hours early to get to the airport. To find another carrier that has a flight on this short of notice would cost an arm and a leg. I called Delta Sat to check on my flight. I was told that all of the flights for T-day weekend were full, so "don't worry about it". Here it is on Tuesday, when I called, all of the flights were booked and I had to take what they had given us or get a refund. We have time to figure out what to do, but the people traveling within the next 2 weeks have got to be frantic. I feel so bad for them.

Thanks mikek for the stats. I guess we are just unlucky with this whole mess like so many other people. All 3 of our Delta flights were affected. I could see if one or MAYBE 2 of them were, but all 3? Wholy Moley, this is going to be interesting! LOL

Princess: I'm from Noblesville, too! We've had trouble with Delta switching flights as well. We're leaving this Sat for WDW and driving (fall break). My DH is flying out end of month IND to MCO and had his flight back changed. He is now flying out of MCO at 10:40am as well instead of 12:30pm. That was fine with him. He'll just get home earlier.

idontknow: 5.5 hrs early is ridiculous! Hope everything works out for your cousin. We never got called as well, but I've been checking the website daily.

Tinkerbellrules- I'm just worried about him getting bumped. It's the last flight, so they told me. I just don't know what to do if he gets bumped and can't come down. I don't know how ATA will handle that. (his return flight is on ATA) He won't even be in Florida to make the flight home if Delta doesn't get him to Florida on Friday.

Here's another experience that may scare you....
As you know, yesterday at noon I called and found out my flight going out was gone, but she rebooked me on flight 517, leaving an hour later. Luckily I wrote down all of the information on flight numbers, times, etc.
I called last night to get seat assignments. The woman I spoke to told me I was booked on a 3rd flight, not flt. 517 or the original flight! Last night's agent booked us back on flight 517 as the agent HAD mentioned, and got us seat assignments for each leg. But it spooked me that we had been placed on a flight I had never heard of when we had a lengthy discussion about the new flights and she had given me all of the other flight information.
I plan on calling Delta weekly AT LEAST now to make sure nothing else is different. I urge everyone else to do the same.
Robin M.
