Is it difficult to remain on a low carb diet while at US?

Just wondering if anyone else has been following a low carb eating plan while they were at US and IOA.

If so, was it difficult to maintain it while there? What did you eat, etc?

Thanks!:D

Is it difficult? YES, they have some great food.

Is it impossible??? No, You can have the burgers, hotdogs and chicken, without bread, etc. They also have great salads. I was on Atkins and broke it immediately with all the great offerings they have. I'm not one for will power....:p

Thanks SpideyHulk! I've been reading about all the great food and just know I'll have to "sample" a few of the things. But I was hoping I could stick to the plan as much as possible!!LOL

You will do just fine. Your trip will be here before you know it!!!;)

Hi!

We just returned from USO. My dh is on Atkins. He ate MANY smoked turkey legs they sell at the carts and in the Enchanted Oak Tavern. Other items are salads, burgers, roasted chicken. Breakfast was the hardest in the parks. One morning (on the weekend I think) we ate at Confisco's. He had a skillet breakfast that was eggs, cheese, spinach and ham. At the sit down places they are very good about serving things "plain" if you request them.
If you have the time to go to Citywalk for any of your meals I know that HR Cafe, Nascar, NBA and Margaritaville have things you can order.

OOOOHHHH...the turkey legs sound yummy!!!! How much are they, if you remember? I just love turkey legs and could snack on those all day long!!

And we're going to the Nascar Cafe for sure one night, and maybe to Hard rock one night as well.

Thanks!:D

The turkey legs are a bit pricey (over $5, I believe), but I've seen a family of four split one and everyone was able to enjoy it.

As for low-carb, just make sure you choose wisely and make your requests. On the maps, look for the apple icon to indicate vegetarian/healthy choice locations.

$5 doesn't seem TOO bad....maybe one would fill me (hey, I can dream, can't I?LOL)

Great tip for checking the map for places that serve healthy stuff!! I never would have thought of that!!!

Thanks Dark Marauder!!:D

 tried to delete this post. Sorry

It may be over $5, I'm not sure. Bu I know that even *I* cant eat a whole one. They're just too big! I can eat maybe half of one without help.

LOL! My dh eats one by himself:p

Are you traveling with non- low carb eaters? If so, the turkey leg dinners at the Enchanted Oak Tavern, IOA, are a good deal. They're around $8 and come with a corn muffin, corn on the cob and fries. DH ate the turkey while I ate all the "sides", along with a fruit cup purchased from a nearby outside vendor ($3.50).

Good luck!

They are $4.95+ tax

I forgot about those. The turkey legs are wonderful! My wife calls me Fred Flintstone when I eat them!!! LOL....

Yeah, I'm the only one who is low carb...for now anyways!LOL Hubby says he'll decide when he sees how well I do on it! LOL

Well, I'm loving it and doing well, so didn't want to worry about what I'd eat while there. I keep reading about all these wonderful things, but they are definitely NOT low carb!LOL

That meal sounds really yummy!!! Would be fairly cheap too for the 7 of us!! Thanks for the advice!!!:D

Dark Marauder...well, I know I can eat a whole turkey leg when I prepare it but I'm thinking the legs are quite a bit bigger. I'm thrilled that you guys have them there because even if I can't eat it all, with 7 of us (2 teenage boys!!!LOL), I'm sure someone would finish it off!!!::yes::

LOL @ SpideyHulk!!

Fred Flinstone!! I can totally see that. Well, not that YOU would look like Fred Flintstone!LOL Just the whole idea of it...just sitting back munching on a turkey leg!!LOL I love it!!:D
