Is it difficult to book HH in May/June within 7months?

Is it difficult to book HH in May/June within 7months? still debating on whether to go with SSR or HH. I'll probably visit HH more since it's closeby, but SSR lasts 12 more years. Then again with HH, I can purchase more points for about the same price.

I'm not sure what size unit you're interested in, but I was able to book a HH studio for 4 nights (Sun-Thurs 2004) in December of '03. My dates were May 23-27. I will tell you that I gave MS a choice of 3 or 4 different weeks and this was the only one with full availability. I was also on hold for about 10 min. When she came on the line with me she said I got the last studio. But then again, I was calling at less than 7 months (I was more around 5 months out).

In 2004 I was able to book a 1BR at HHI at 7 months out. We were there the week before Memorial Day. Good luck!

In Jan. 05 we tried for a week and a half at the end of June thru July 4th and had to go on a waiting list for several of the days. They never came through and we got a great deal for AKL so we decided to go there instead (cancelled the wait list in late March).

In May, possible, but you will have to be flexible and patient. In June, I would say not possible. My experience mirrors the previous poster. Last year we tried for 4 nights in June at the 7 month window. I was extremely flexible, would take virtually ANY 4 night run. We got 2 nights, both weekend nights (no surprise, points on those in the summer are outrageous!!) and waitlisted for 2 more. One came through at the 30 day mark, a 4th night never became available. The resort was full up for the days we were there.

We booked a 2br in HH for June 13 - 19, 2004. I felt very lucky to succeed at getting this 7 mos out. I did call MS on a day-by-day basis to increase our chances.

Hmm, guess that makes the following a bit of a success story. . .

On 5 Jan of this year, I called HHI and got 3 nights in a 2BR for 2-5 June. Yep, we just got back from our trip last week. Now, I must add a couple of caveats. First, we were looking for either a studio or 1BR as it was just going to be DW and I for an anniversary trip. All they had was 2BR. That was fine, if a bit of overkill, since this was going to be our last trip of the use year for us or we'd have to bank substantial points. Second, the rate for the 3-night stay was high given it was a Thu-Fri-Sat nights gig.

As it turned out, we wound up having to take DD4 with us, so the 2BR turned out to be a real luxury. The moral of the story is you never know until you call. . .or in the cases of some posters, call, call, call, call, call. . .

What size units were you requesting ? Just curious if that makes a difference. i.e., is one more likely to go on a waitlist for a studio during the summer months ? Are the larger units more or less in demand ?

I'd be curious how many people in DVC rent studios and how many are available at each resort

not sure about June, but I was able to book July within 7 mos. I would imagine the demand to be similar at that time.

Any HH GV success story at 7 month mark? We're planning a family reunion trip to HH next June and I'd like to rent the GV.
Of course, I plan on calling everyday starting in November because we're quite flexible with dates

HH GV in June at the 7 month mark. I would bet a significant amount of money it's not going to happen. Make sure you have a backup plan.

We were able to book HHI at the 7 months, didn't do it day by day. We have a 2BR and those are much easier to get than a studio or a 1BR. You would have a better cahnces with a 2 BR

2 bedrooms are easier to get because there are more of them. Here are the numbers of each room type:

HHI - 0 Dedicated Studios - 0 Dedicated 1Bdrm - 76 Dedicated 2Bdrm - 21 Lockoffs - 5 Grand Villas = 102 Units / 123 Max. Available Rooms

Copied above numbers from one of WebmasterDoc's posts. As you can surmise, the maximum number of studios or 1 bedrooms available is 21. It will be less than that if any of the lock offs are reserved as a 2 bedroom.

HH has the smallest total number of rooms of any of the DVC resorts.

ug that's what I was afraid of...

Mid June to early August will be the most difficult time for HH. Late May to Mid June will be tough but workable. You should always call and reserve day by day 7 months out for this type of need. As noted, 2 BR units will be much easier. DVC HH is not in nearly as desirable location for most people as some of the other resorts, esp Marriott's. So you might consider putting in a trade request for the top Marriott's where you'll only spend 270 points compared to 330 for Premier Season and you'll be getting a better resort location. Of course you're giving up the flexibility of smaller units or less than a week stay.

Please note that the last two summers have actually been easier than the few before that. My suspicion is it's due to the fact that members have owned there a while and are trying other things and many non HH DVC members that want to try HH have done so (been there done that). I think we're seeing the same phenomena for OKW owners including trading to II and that all DVC resorts will become easier to get through II for both HH summer and OKW especially.

I bet it's not two years until we see a similar post about II exchanges as we do from time to time about cash reservations and rentals. Namely "I couldn't get it on points but it's availalbe ______" and fill in the blank with CRO cash reservations, DVC cash reservations, private rentals or II exchanges.
