that I bought 100 trading pins and found 4 sets to keep and my DD wanted to keep some and we ended up with about 45 pins to actually trade next year at disney????

Oh well, I wish I would have gotten one of those pin holder book thingys while there last year.....

oh no! I still can't decide on what I want to keep or trade. I need to buy about 30-40 more this month for our trip (I have gotten about 8 so far) and thats in addition to what we already have which I can't decide what to set aside as keep and what to continue trading.

We do this with every lot that we buy. I have started a collection of merry-go-round horses from all of my orders! We keep a few, but most of them we are willing to trade.

I just recently purchased some pins for our first trip and there are so many cute ones my dd wants to keep already.

How many would you suggest taking down there? It would be DD 12, DS 10 (won't trade a lot, he's disabled but does have characters he likes so I will try to trade to get him those) and then my brother's twins who are 5.

My first year trading, we started out with 10 each.....ended up bringing home about 25 each.....so yes we spent a LOT of money buying extra pins. And I found myself buying pins that were the least expensive and ones that i didn't like so I could trade for ones we did like. so If you think the kids will trade a lot, id look at about 15 each....HOWEVER...the pins do get rather heavy on the lanyard and the kids may not want to wear them. We are a family of 4. DH trades a few here and there, but dont like the bulky lanyard around his neck, so he wont get many, DS is going to be 4 next year when we go, so he probably wont trade too many either. DD will be 8 and she LOVES trading so she will get quite a few and I enjoy it too, so we'll end up with the bulk of the 45ish I have left....Its fun and the kids will have fun doing it. You may even pick up on it and start trading too!!!

well, I bring down all my extras and bring about 20 to the parks each day (3 kids). They each pick a pin type to collect when we are there. Sometimes it is the one they collected last time but most of the times they do a whole new change and trade away all of the ones they collected last time. I don't let them keep more than 4 on their lanyard at a time since I find they fall off.

is it bad to not research it and let the kids trade willy nilly? I don't see me getting into it to the point where we try to figure out which ones are more valuable. The kids just think it's fun.

I buy some online every year before our trip (bought them months ago already), and it's rare that we keep more than 1 or 2 of them. My DD6 started a collection last year of the "baby" princesses, got the whole set, than they were stolen her first day back at daycare

My DD3 just likes to pick one she likes, and trade one she doesn't like. And the one she likes this second might be the one she re-trades 2 minutes later. I just let them pick and get rid of any they want. If they have special ones, we leave them in the hotel room.

I don't think it's bad at all. My 3 just had fun meeting the CMs and seeing all the pins. We had no expectations of getting a "collection" or anything. I will say, though, that there are some really sweet, honest CMs out there. Last year one DD traded for a really cute Tink pin and a CM in Epcot told her (and me) "Don't let her trade that pin. It was only available to CMs and is a limited edition and is very valuable." I have not bothered to look it up, as she was just SOOO excited to have a "valuable" pin that she wouldn't have traded it anyway so I really don't know if he was right. But I assume he was telling the truth because he could have asked for it for himself and we would never have known! I believe most of the CMs trading are given the pins to wear from Disney and they are not actually trading their own personal pins while at work.

I have used theatreandfilms just recently and was very please with my pins and shipping. I have also used thinkerbelle102 and had the same experience.

to the PP who is worried about collecting for value-unless you really want to get serious, don't even think about this when trading. The trading circuit is so flooded with pins that aren't considered worth anything that you really have to be serious and probably hang out at the Trading Pin store in DTD to get anything of value. Kind of like Beanie Babies were-they are only worth what someone else is willing to pay.

My DS10 and DS12 like to trade a lot. I trade some but not as much. We leave the lanyards in the room and bring the ones we want to trade in a plastic bag, which is very easy to pull out and swap. The lanyards are too heavy and scratchy around our necks, plus we don't want to lose any. When we get back to the room, they arrange all of their new ones on the lanyard.

They can probably go through 10 pins each/day. I buy a lot every month or so from Ebay, and right now we have about 100 to trade.

I think we do it wrong. Instead of trading what we have and rotating in new ones and getting rid of old ones we don't want anymore, we just buy more from Ebay so we don't have to part with any of them.

One thing that is fun to do is to collect a set. Then it becomes a quest. Last year my boys were searching the set of animals that are the prizes in TSM. There was also a set of food items in the shapes of Mickey heads, acorns, tomatoes, watermelons, etc.

Not everybody in our family likes to trade, but I try to have at least 10 pins per day for each person that does. We usually run low or out by the end of the trip.
