Is it almost impossible to rent a grand villa?

What are the chances of renting a grand villa if we are not DVC owners? They sound beautiful but I have a feeling they are booked pretty quickly, right? Why are OKW ones so much cheaper?

It is extremely difficult even for DVC Members who want to rent a grand villa to rent one especially at BWV as there are only seven. OKW has alot more but even they are in heavy demand by members. BWV are alot more points because of location location location and they came after OKW. My feeling is that they didn't realize how popular they would be when OKW was built but made the adjustment with the BWV. If they couldn't get people to rent them then they would have to lower cost . this isn't happening.

There will be more at SSR. That should help.

It isn't impossible to rent a GV. I posted 300 pts on the rent/trade board to pay cash for a cruise, and the person that contacted me wanted a GV at the Boardwalk for September.

I called MS and got the dates(4 nites) he wanted in Sept at 6 months out.So you won't know until you try.

The point values have to be set before ownership in the resort even goes up for sale. OKW was the first DVC property and they set the values where they thought applicable.

Then, when BWV came into being, they raised the point requirements considerably. Apparently the rooms are still in demand as similar "costs" have been applied to the SSR Grand Villas.

Back to OKW, the number of points available for the entire resort cannot ever change. So, if they did want to raise the cost for a GV, they would have to reduce costs elsewhere. That doesn't appear likely to happen. The net result is OKW owners get a great deal on their GVs.

I have tried to get a Grand villa at OKW every summer since 1997, and haven't managed to snare one yet, at the 7 month window. So I am going to buy OKW to reserve one at the 11 month window.:p

You've got to be doing something wrong, maybe your calander is slow. According to DVC sales people, the seven month window doesn't matter, you can stay wherever you want, whenever you want.

:p But none of them ever promised you could stay in any size unit you wanted, did they? :p :hyper: :teeth:

Until you've tried them all, it's hard to give an opinion.

we've stayed at the okw gv, and it was nice, but we prefer the BW gv the most. This last trip, we had a chef came in for about 25 or so, and had a great time. Afterwards, some of us went to Jellyrolls and some for ice cream, overall great time. We didn't like the two floor gv at the bw as much as the one floor though.

We have yet to try the Vero cottages that look pretty nice, but can't offer an opinion on them yet. Some can offer an opinion on the Bw gv and have never stayed in one.

When we go in Nov it's 79 pts per night compared to 38 at the okw. For us well worth it. TTomorrow cost us over a hundred something for us to stay at the bw in a two bedroom for the weekend each night, but again worth it for us. we canceled our Okw, so someone may have gotten a last minute deal.

again to each his own, but at least try both until giving an opinion.

That depends on what one considers a good deal. For many the extra pts for a BWV GV are well worth it and a very good deal for what you get. That is why they make chocolate and vanilla!
