...to have an owner check availability of a certain resort? I don't want anybody to book me anything but I'm curious if stuff is available. I hate how DVC doesn't even let you see if something is available or not so you can try to plan better. :/

Yes, it is against the rules to check on availability because if you can't book then, it might be gone two minutes later.

It's not against DVC's rules but a potential renter shouldn't be asking an owner to check anything they're not ready to book, IMO. It is easier now with the online booking than it was having to call.

DVC allows members to check when they are actually in their booking window, if not a member then no, and that is as it should be.

As stated though, exercise in futility, until you can actually book.
