I wouldn't say he is 10, because Disney keeps records of these things. If you decided to go next year and didn't do the dining plan, your son would be listed as 11 and charged as an adult. Better to call and just explain what you want to do. Sounds like it has been done before with no problem.

Yep. Kids who are over 9 but under 18 are listed on room reservations as "Junior". They get adult park tickets and adult dining plan charges, but do not pay the "extra adult" charge for the room.

Definitely be honest about it -- but if Disney allows it (and I'm pretty sure they will) they you are not "gaming the system."

Enjoy your trip... and nice to see that there are kids other than the ones who refuse to eat anything other than a specific brand of mac-and-cheese or whatever.

In order to upgrade the CM will have to put the child down as 10. But if it's an issue in the future it can be fixed to the child's correct age. They aren't stuck with being 2 years older forever.

Nothing prevents you from booking your child as a junior (ordering an adult ticket) and then saving that ticket aside and buying a separate child ticket (from Undercover Tourist or at a Disney ticket booth) for use.
