Is it a good idea crowds wise...

to go to DLR in April?
It depends on when in April. The very beginning will be Easter and a lot of spring breaks, so very crowded! Grad nights don’t start until May, so you won’t have to worry about that. The 20-22 is Dapper Day weekend so will be very crowded too! Last year they also had a great SoCal ticket deal (3-days for $150 that could be used almost any day Jan-May), which led to a lot of crowds later in the spring, but no ticket deal has been announced for next year yet.

Will you be going during the week or weekend? That will also impact crowds, but also park hours and entertainment options.

So I don’t think it is a bad idea, you just need to plan well.

The last week of April is a wonderful time to go. Decent crowds (for Disneyland), most rides are operational and the weather is usually great.

I went last April for Dapper Day weekend, and I was pleased that the crowds were quite manageable - not terrible at all. You have to be smart and use your time and FP wisely, but you'd do that anyway, right? I'd go again for spring Dapper Day weekend. On the other hand, I would never go again any time between Thanksgiving and New Year's. The holiday season was madness and misery last time I visited in December.

I think Disneyland is getting really good at filling in the "slow times" with special events to draw in crowds. I think April 13th is the start of Pixar Fest. Paint the Night will start at DCA and a bunch of other stuff. I still say go for it though.
